I did some research and wanted to announce some of the featured fights for XCFL 3, which is May 15 from the Marlboro Convention Center.
A 170 pound title fight is set to take place between Sit Yod Tong’s Chris Cape and Dragon Lair Fighter James Boran. Chris is well rounded, and has shown a real mean streak in his fights. Boran has flown under the radar a little, but is 4-0 and one of my favorite up and coming fighters. He has great hands, and is slick on the ground. I think the stand up will be close, and the fight will be decided on the ground. Cape is the better wrestler but Boran may be able to submit him.
Scott Nichols makes his return to the cage against Robby Roberts. Nichols has started his pro career undefeated, and looks to keep rolling against Robby. He is coming off the longest layoff of his career and it’ll be interesting to see how well he comes back from injury. Robby has won 2 in a row in the first round, and will have big size advantage.
Luis Rodrigues takes on Eric Fama, and both guys are talked about as the best prospects in the area.
Another title fight is rumored and I’ll post more about that when I preview the show next week.

I spoke to the guys over at the XCFL today and they have booked two title fights for their March 26 event at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. The first is a 185 pound title fight between Dan Keefe and Lance Everson. Both guys have great wrestling and both like to use their ground and pound to dominate their opponent. It’ll be interesting to see who dominates, and who gets dominated on March 26.
Their other title fight features two of the areas best 145 pound fighters making their debut at 135 fighting for the vacant bantam weight title. Tateki Matsuda is set to take on Anthony Leone. Matsuda will have a big advantage in the stand up, but Leone is a dominant wrestler with great submissions. Leone tends to push the pace a bit more than the composed Matsuda, and that is what’s going to make this interesting. Matsuda will have to time the rush of Leone and catch him coming in, because as good as Matsuda is on the ground, I don’t see him winning this fight if Leone can keep him on his back.
More fights are going to be announced in the coming weeks.

Q and A with Micky Ward
The XCFL is proud to announce that boxing legend Micky Ward will joining the XCFL team as the head boxing coach at the XCFL Training Center in Chelmsford, MA. Micky Ward is regarded as one of the most determined fighters to ever step foot in the ring. Micky is looking to bring his years of experience and will to win to his coaching of MMA fighters at the center. Micky will be training Calvin Kattar for his featured fight against Canadian Sensation Taylor Solomon in XCFL One. He has also committed to train Dan Keefe for his 185 pound title fight against Lance Everson on March 26 at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. If you want to learn more about Micky Ward you can check out the major motion picture coming out in the fall titled The Fighter, where Mark Wahlberg stars as Micky Ward and Christian Bale plays Micky’s trainer and brother Dicky Eklund. We are honored and excited to have Micky join the team.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM XCFL
As many of you may know, we here at the XCFL are getting ready to launch our first production on February 6th in Marlborough, MA. While we are very excited to reveal our product to the MMA community, we have been disheartened by much of the unfounded slander and accusations which some have made. Regardless of things you may have heard or read online, the mission of the XCFL is simple. We are here to put on the best show that the fans have ever seen. That means state of the art production value unlike any local venue has ever experienced. Fighters will receive widespread media coverage and exposure to help bring them to the next level. Most importantly, fighters will find quality matchmaking which will showcase their talents, and their hearts. Finally, those who compete in the XCFL will find that they are generously compensated for putting it all on the line for the fans.
Just yesterday, the Global Fight League (GFL) announced that it was cancelling their show next Saturday in Concord, NH. As unfortunate as that is, we must commend the GFL for making the decision to postpone their event rather that just throw some last minute fights together to make some money. It is integrity like this which will help ensure that the bar for quality MMA will not be lowered. We do know, however, that many fighters trained for months preparing to step into the cage on January 22nd. As this is now not possible, the XCFL would like to formally extend the hand to those who may still wish to fight. We want to be clear, IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM, are we trying to “steal” fights. Rather, the next show after January 19th happens to be our event February 6th. If you are NOT UNDER CONTRACT, EITHER VERBAL OR WRITTEN, and interested in fighting, please feel free to contact promoter Donny Mustapha at ( 603) 820 – 0168. or matchmaker James Suchy at 603 – 341 – 1332, OR EMAIL INFO@XCFLMMA.COM. We currently have a full card, but there may be some openings or opportunities.
Thank you all for your time and consideration,
The Staff at XCFL

The XFCL has released 3 big fights for their debut event, set to take place February 6 from the Marlboro Convention Center. In the Main Event, Saul Almeida takes on Chris Grandmaison for the 145 pound XCFL title. Also on the card is a 205 pound title fight between Roger Brackett and Alexandre “Vaca” Moreno.
Calvin Kattar will also fight on the event when he takes on tough Canadian up and comer Taylor Solomon. Taylor has proven to be extremely exciting and hard hitting in his previous fights, and he’s sure to push Kattar in this fight.
For more details on the event, check out the promotional video they just put out featuring Spaz from the Hillman Morning Show on WAAF:

I’d like to take a minute to announce that the XCFL and NorthEastMMA.net have partnered up to bring you anything and everything from XCFL here on NorthEastMMA.net. “How is this going to differ from what we’re used to?” you ask…well, at the top of the page (and on the right of the page) you’ll notice a tab that says “XCFL News.” When you click that, it’ll bring you to the official news page of the XCFL, right here on NorthEastMMA.net. This is going to cater to both the fans of NorthEastMMA.net and the fans of the XCFL because while the XCFL news will be easily accessible from the main page of NorthEastMMA, it won’t interfere with all the other posts.
The XCFL News can be updated as often as they have news, and their news will only post to their page, so if you only want to hear about the XCFL, you can easily find all their news with one click. If you’re on the other side of the spectrum and don’t want to read about them, you’ll still be able to get your daily fix of NorthEastMMA without reading about the XCFL.
Now that I’ve gotten the logistics out of the way, the reason we decided on this format is because they have a ton going on, and it will benefit all of us. They plan to release various interviews (both video and text) and also want a place to talk about fights they’ve booked, upcoming dates, and other exciting news. So it is going to benefit NorthEastMMA because we’ll get additional content, and ultimately additional traffic to the website. It’s going to benefit the readers of NorthEastMMA because instead of having to look at several different websites to stay in the loop, it’s one stop shopping. It’s going to allow us to post news of any size, as often as necessary without taking up all the space on the main page.
Many people commented on how much they liked the RSS feeds on the right hand side of the site because they can come here to read about the local MMA news, and also check the latest highlights from JoeLauzon.com and the UFC. This is going to give the readers of NorthEastMMA.net yet another thing to read about, and let’s face it, the more content the better.
As I mentioned in my original article about the XCFL, they have a ton going on, and as a fan of local MMA, I’m excited to have another local promoter pushing the envelope and bringing great MMA to MA. I’ve been impressed with all the news they’ve told me thus far, and I’m excited to share that with all of you. Keep your eyes peeled, you won’t be disappointed.
