Other promotions might want to take note of the following: big name fighters, highly ranked regional fighters, a high quality venue, professional staff, and lots of fannies in the seats. (more…)

GFL 10 Review

by Rick ~ April 17th, 2011

GFL 10-by Grant Tremelling

Top to bottom this event was excellent.  Everything went smoothly start to finish and they fit 14 fights in with no unplanned downtime between 7:15 and 11:30.  The prefight hype video’s and intro video’s were easily seen on the jumbotron above, the audio system worked clearly, both added to the excitement.  Depending on the venue and AV system I have definitely seen where these video’s can be a bit of a nuisance or a distraction but this couldn’t be further from the case tonight.

I will do my best to rate the knockouts and submissions but honestly there were so many great moments its tough to narrow it down.  In my opinion KO of the night goes to either Lucas Cruz for his Flying knee of doom, or john ortolani for the precision uppercut/hook that dropped Joe Manzello.  As far as submission of the night its an even tougher decision between Colton Blanchette and Matt bessette.  Strictly based on the submission I would have to give it to colton who fought through being dropped on his head multiple times, and transitioned through 3-4 different submissions without loosing control before finishing with the armbar.  However based on the level of competition and the tenacity required for Matt to finish his umpteenth submission attempt over a very game Benoit I have to give him the edge.  Fight of the night I give to Lewis/Aniss although there were other strong competitors as well.  But these two fought bell to bell and never slowed their pace.

On to the Fights……

205  Cody Lightfoot 5-1 (Seacoast/ Kaos) vs Steve Skrzat 4-2 (Factory)

Cody is the early aggressor looking for a single leg but Steve is able to fight it off.  As soon as they break steve is able to land a mean knee to the body and a flurry of strikes that all land. Cody wants none of it and clinches for a takedown.  Steve is able to work his feet just in time for Cody to get another takedown.  Steve escapes and stands again, then catches Cody’s leg kick and trips him for the takedown but cody quickly gets to his feet again  As soon as Cody is on his feet again steve is all over him and dropping haymakers that are landing flush but somehow Cody is standing.  Cody seems out on his feet but is fighting through it, Steve just cant put him away.  Cody gets another takedown and stacks Steve against the fence to end the round.

Rnd 2.

Steve comes out and lands a huge left that dazes Cody who ducks under the next strike for a single.  He quickly moves to mount and postures to start pounding.  Steve does a good job of defending most of the strikes but cannot escape the mount, Steve is starting to look tired and more of the strikes are starting to land. After about 45 seconds he cannot defend himself from the barrage anymore and starts to turn to his stomach, Cody starts to wail away prompting the ref to step in at 2:20 of rnd 2.

Winner Cody Lightfoot Via Stoppage at 2:20 of Rnd 2.

155 Steve Butler 1-3 (Gracie Barra)  vs  Pedro Da Silva 0-3 (Tapout Boston)

Pedro immediately rushes in with a flurry and steve picks him up and drops him on his back. Pedro Gets up and Steve pushes him to the cage for another takedown.  Pedro stands again and lands a knee before taking himself down in an attempt to drop steve.  Steve leaves his head out and Pedro works an arm in guillotine.  After a struggle they are able to stand steve lands a big strike and moves in for the finish but pedro bulrushes him for a takedown. They get up again and pedro barely misses a huge knee then gets caught by a big hook from steve  Pedro Returns with his own massive hook that lands flush then throws a wild backfist that also lands, steve turns away to escape the barrage only to take a kick to the mouth Which finally drops him.

Winner via KO Pedro Da Silva at 4:04 of round 1

135 Nick Bennett 0-0 (Mass BJJ) vs Lucas Cruz 0-0 (Wai Kru)

Nick is the aggressor early pressing for a double against the cage. This goes on for about 3 minutes with lucas throwing elbows at his head when he can. The reff separates them and immediately lucas throws a flying knee that catches nick square on the side of his jaw and the lights go out, lucas lands one more for good measure while he is on the ground before the ref moves in.

Winner Lucas Cruz via KO at 3:22 of rnd 1

Main Event

Lightweight Championship Fight 155lbs

Matt Bessette 6-2 (Underdog BJJ)  vs  John Benoit 11-2 (Renzo Gracie NH)

Matt is first to the center of the cage.  He rushes john and gets a leg but isn’t able to do much with it. .  They square off back in the middle of the ring and john throws a leg kick which matt catches, then sweeps the other leg for a takedown.  Matt lands one or two strikes from the top but john is working his guard and gets a leg for a heel hook.  After a near miss matt backs out and starts chopping away at johns(on his back) legs while standing.  John is happy to play off his back and keeps throwing upkicks, he is able to land a few before matt pushes past his legs and almost gets side control, but john gets a leg and is working a single even though matt is completely sprawled on him.  John works hard and eventually gets the takedown then moves matt to the cage.  Matt is able to get a guillotine and has his legs wrapped but john pulls open the grip.  Matt is trying to wall walk out but john pulls him away from the cage and eventually takes his baack against the fence.  Matt starts turning in and it looks like john is going to get mount, then the round ends.

Rnd 2

Both men open up with leg kicks, John paws a few times and lands one good cross before getting a takedown and moving matt to the cage.  Matt tries a few triangles but john is having none of it.  John isn’t posturing much from the top but he is grinding matt against the cage.  Matt gets one leg over for a triangle but john is stacking to counter.  John escapes and matt gets the triangle tight on the other side and is throwing elbows forcing john to block with the trapped arm.  He gets it real tight but john is able to escape.  John stands and shoots but matt locks in a guillotine and pulls guard.  It doesn’t look like he has it but he readjusts and its really deep, he squeezes one last time for the tap, seconds before the bell.

Winner via Guillotine Choke, Matt Bessette 4:59 at of round 2

Wow, extremely intense fight, both men were at it full tilt start to finish.  Amazing finish for matt.  My hat is off to him for continuing to work for submissions after having john counter so many.

Main Card

155 John Ortolani 4-2 (Gracie Barra NH)  vs  Joe Manzello 5-6 (The Factory)

John takes the center of the ring and joe is circling.  John is throwing a lot trying to find his range, joe is able to avoid most strikes and covers up for the few that he has to.  After a few times of John coming in and joe covering john switches to a monster uppercut that lands flush and follows up with another uppercut and a big hook that drops the already rocked Manzello.  John quickly pounces and lands 2 big rights to finish the fight.

Winner John Ortolani Via Knockout at :45 of round 1

155 Devin Powell 2-1 (Port City BJJ) vs Anthony Loycano 3-0 (Warriors Pride)

Anthony gets the early takedown after a missed combination.  He is in Devins guard but isn’t able to posture to do much damage.  Devin is telegraphing the triangle but works for it anyways, as he tries to sink it in Anthony stands tall for a big slam to break the hold.  Undetered, devin looks for another this one is tight but it doesn’t look like he has enough angle.  As he sinches it in the round warning sounds and Anthony is able to wait it out and is saved by the bell.

Rnd 2:

Devin comes out Throws a few combinations before getting taken down.  Devin takes anthony’s back but is unable to hold it.  Anthony is starting to do a little more damage but devin pulles out a chain of submission attempts triangle, armbar, gogo, before finally sinking the triangle.  Anthony is a warrior and looks close to tapping a few times but is able to fight out for a while before devin is able to break him down for the tap.

Winner via Triangle at 2:38 of Rnd 2 Devin Powell.

I was really impressed by devins transitions, he wouldn’t let the dream die on his submissions and was able to get a scrappy win.

155  Aniss Alhajjajy 4-1 (BTT)  vs  Lewis Corapi 2-0 (Sityodtong)

They meet in the middle and do not hesitate to get the action started.  The circle and are both working multiple punch combo’s but are able to evade each other.  Anis is able to back lewis into the cage and is working a body clinch.  He changes to a single bud lets his head slip outside which lewis uses for a guillotine and then transitions to front headlock to stand.  Anis shoots and gets sprawled on hard.  After a brief scramble Lewis is able to get aniss to his knees where he lands 2 visious knees to the body.  Anis is able to get a kimura and uses it to sweep lewis.  It doesn’t look good for lewis but he is able to reverse the kimura and stand.  Anis gets a single but lewis sprawls. As anis stands lewis lands a big knee to his stomach and a right elbow to his head but he doesn’t so much as flinch.  The round ends with Aniss trying to finish a single leg.

Great round start to finish

Rnd 2

Anis takes the center of the ring and lewis backs him into the cage before landing a crisp leg kick and then another.  Lewis seems to be getting pretty comfortable and is starting to find his distance on leg kicks and starts to land with more frequency.  Lewis lands a few more leg kicks before starting to really open up his striking.  He lands a knee/[unch combination and a few body shots.  Anis really looks like he is slowing down.  Anis is able to get a leg and gets lewis down against the cage but lewis is able to cage walk out of trouble.  Anis has a leg but he is low on the leg allowing lewis to land a urijah faber style jumping knee to his head and an elbow. They break, another leg kicks from lewis, and then a slick double leg to end the round.

Rnd 3

They both come out throwing but neither are landing.  After a little cat and mouse lewis shoots for a takedown but aniss quickly gets up.  Lewis looks for a takedown against the cage but after some work anis is able to turn him and get his back on the cage.  They break. Lewis lands another 2 leg kicks then gets a double leg.  Anis is staying active off his back and looks for a triangle then a heel hook during a scramble.  Lewis is able to get out of danger and then gets a takedown.  Another scramble to an awkward position finds anis with a pretty good toehold on lewis. Lewis is able to fight out of it with his other leg then gets control back and is on top in half guard.  Right as the round ends lewis mounts then takes anis’s Back.

Great action in this fight start to finish.  Both fighters were clearly tired at the end but were able to keep the action going and both never stopped looking for the finish.

Winner Via Unanimous Decision Lewis Corapi.

170 Brandon Cyr 3-0 (Team Dow)  vs   Pete San Antonio 3-1 (Warriors Pride)

The men come out and touch gloves, the action starts early, both throw combinations with neither landing squarely until Brandon drops Pete with a right.  There is a scramble with pete looking for a takedown but they quickly stand up.  Both men are not afraid to bang and are landing stiff jabs, pete sits down on a combination and Brandon gets a big takedown.  Pete quickly stands and continues working a stiff jab.  He gets ahold of brandons head and throws two big rights hockey fight style.  Brandon is able to get away and keeps him at a distance with a few jabs before pete again closes the distance against the fence and looks to end it with a number of power shots, Brandon is able to get out of danger as the bell rings.

Round 2.

They meet in the center a little more tentative this time.  Brandon starts the action with a few wild strikes and pete is looking to counter punch.  Brandon throws a hook/axe kick that opens up petes right eye.  But pete is able to recover, back Brandon into the cage and lands 3 more power shots.  Brandon clinches.  Then they separate.  They are both throwing combinations and Brandon lands a light kick clean on petes jaw that seems to wobble him a little.  Pete shoots for a takedown and Brandon works a guillotine, pete gets out and stands up but looks like he is out of energy.  Brandon lands 3 combinations clean that back up pete and he is really starting to look worse for the wear.  Pete is able to circle out and compose himself in time for the round to end.

Round 3

Pete comes out but still looks a little tired.  Brandon misses two kicks to the head but finds a home for the kick to the body.  Pete shoots and gets a big double.  There is a scramble and pete has control for a little but is really starting to look tired and Brandon is starting to outwork him.  Brandon is now on top in the guard and throwing short punches.  Now he is working boddy body head then postures up and lands 5 big blows to a clearly exhausted pete.  To pete’s credit he is able to move out of the way to deflect some of the power and controls Brandon a little with his hips but they keep coming straight up until the bell rings.

Great fight for both fighters, pete came out strong early but Brandon slowly turned up the pace as the fight went on.  I would dare say Brandon’s third round was his strongest.  Hat is off to both as they kept the action going no matter where the fight went.

Winner Via Unanimous decision Brandon Cyr

Undercard

145  Ken Kersch 0-0 (Real Deal MMA) vs Josh Bourque 3-2 (Cage Strikers)

The Mohawk showdown…..  Apparently the looser of this fight has to shave their head.  Josh came in looking like ruffio and was able to mojo his way to a decision in a 3 round battle.  Josh dominated rounds 1 and 3 with early takedowns and then control, ken took round 2 and was looking for a finish all the way to the final bell.

170 Nick Berube 0-2 (Team Dow)  vs   Isaiah Gomez  0-0 (North Shore BJJ)

Nick was able to take Isaiah down all three rounds and control him for the duration though he didn’t do much damage besides the occasional short punch.

145 David Sousa 0-0 (Warriors Pride) vs  Colton Blanchette 3-0 (Cage Strikers)

Colton is a manchild beast.  I saw him in Tyngsboro a few months ago and he looked crisp then but he is clearly working hard in the gym because he looked even better tonight.  He got an early takedown to mount, worked and armbar and was able to transition through 2 spikes into a triangle and then finished with an armbar at 45 seconds of the first round.  Great jujitsu.

165  Brian Wilmoth 0-0 (Villari’s Hillsboro NH) vs Mike Materkowski 0-0 (Daniel Gracie)

Mike dominated this fight start to early finish where he was able to crumple Brian with a few Don Frye esque Hockey punches for a TKO early in the first round.

155 Brian Cosco 0-0 (BTT Boston) vs  Ted Washburn 0-0 (West Side MMA)

Brian was able to come out, get a takedown then lock in a choke for an early first round finish via RNC.

185 Dan Lapore 0-2 (Team Dow)  vs  Jesse Merit 0-0 (Anubis)

This fight was a 3 round war.  Jesse dominated much of the fight but Dan was never really out of it.  Dan showed some great technique early in the fight but it seemed like as his gastank started to run low jesse was just too powerful.  Jesse Via decision.

CES CAGE OF PAIN REVIEW

by Rick ~ April 11th, 2011

CES CAGE OF PAIN REVIEW

From the desks of Grant and Old School

It’s Friday night, April 8, 2011 and the joint is jumping at the Twin Rivers Casino event Center in Lincoln, RI.  The CES Cage of Pain MMA extravaganza is minutes away from starting and the crowd is buzzing.  The fight card features seven MMA fights, each one being three five minute rounds.  Included on the card are the two local favorites, Mike “The Beast” Campbell and Todd “The Hulk” Chattelle.  Also on the Card are their respective opponents, Tony “You’ll Know His Name By the End of the Night” Hervey and Jeff “Scary Nickname” Nader.  If you think these two guys were brought in by the promoter to show up and get knocked out by the local heroes, stay tuned for more, because neither one got the memo!!!

This is a nice venue to host a fight, and the promo guys from Jimmy Burchfield kept the press table adequately full of snacks and drinks.  Jimmy also provided an after party buffet for all fighters, press, and cage monkeys!  As always, we were treated very well by the staff!  The theme of the night was the memory of Doug “The Undefeated Warrior” Bolanes, the Framingham MA fighter and CES Homegrown who was killed in a car accident on March 10, 2011.  Doug’s family and huge supporting cast were in attendance to honor our young friend, induct Doug into the Ring of Honor, and continue the efforts of the Doug Bolanes Jr. Foundation.  There was also a nice tribute to Doug in the form of a video that was played on the big screen during the intermission!

The crowd, estimated at 2200 by our expert guesstimating department, included former boxing great Vinnie Pazienza.  Also in the crowd was former UFC fighter Alex Karalexus, who will be appearing on future CES fight cards.  UFC Veteran ref Kevin the ref MacDonald was in the house and in the cage as we were ready to be on to the fights…

Fight 1#

John Marcheterre   vs.   Brandon Rooney   |GT

Main Card | Lightweight | 155 lb (70.3 kg)

The fight begins with John being the aggressor, he throws a few big crosses that land flush and is keeping brandon honest with leg kicks.  Brandon is stalking john but john is getting the best of the exchanges when they happen.  Brandon lands a big right that has john looking for a takedown, Brandon gets underhooks as John shoots and is able to reverse position on his way in, he locks up a guillotine when jon reshoots and after holding a guillotine for a minute turns him against the fence.  He drags him off the fence to his knees and controls him for a minute in that position before quickly stepping over for the Peruvian necktie to get the finish.

Winner Brandon The Badger Rooney Via Peruvian Necktie at 2:55 of round 1

Fight 2#

Justin Switzer   vs.   Billy Walsh   |GT

Main Card | Lightweight | 155 lb (70.3 kg)

The men meet in the middle of the ring, billy a little more tentative.  Justin quickly lands a 1-2 kick combo then pushes to the cage for a single leg.  He is able to get to half guard and is driving for mount.  After a few strikes he is able to move into full mount but isn’t posturing or doing much damage for a while.  He postures up and starts wailing away with both arms, none are landing very clean but he is throwing punches in bunches. He keeps it up and Billy isn’t able to do anything to defend or improve position so the reff calls it.

Winner via TKO Justin Switzer at 2:16 of rnd 1

FIGHT#3:

Welterweight

Pierry Pierre “The Haitian sensation” 2-1 (Cape Cod Fighting Alliance)

Darrius Heyliger 1-0 (Team Bombsquad)

Round 1:  Pierry is jacked up and wired for sound as the fight begins and he is scoring well with leg kicks and punches.  Pierry is moving and circling well, controlling the pace and timing, landing kicks and winning the round. Pierry’s mouth piece comes loose and he puts it back.  It pops out a few seconds later and he puts it back again.  Half way into the round, Heyliger throws a side kick that Pierry stuffs into a takedown, landing in top of guard.  Darrius hangs on the bottom in closed guard with no submission attempts and Pierry works from the top with only a little G&P.  The ref stands them up and the round ends with Pierry’s mouth piece falling out again(and he replaces it) and Pierry throwing a flurry of punches.

Old School score: Pierry Pierre 10-9

Round 2:  A good two way stand up fight starts with Heyliger throwing hands, but Pierry, once again, is controlling this round with many leg kicks and punches.  Pierry’s leg kicks and lateral movement are the story.  Pierry shoots for a takedown, but Heyliger stuffs it and a long clinch begins.  Heyliger owns the clinch, as he sprawls to the top position, landing hammerfists and elbows.  Heyliger finishes the round working for a RNC with some G&P.

Old School score:  Darrius Heyliger10-9

Round 3: The pivotal round starts cautiously and Pierry begins to regain control with the leg kicks.  Pierry is moving and kicking and winning.  Heyliger’s corner is yelling to their fighter that he is losing and to let the hands go.  Heyliger connects with a combo and Pierry shoots and misses a takedown.  Heyliger stuffs the attempt and gains top position and works for a RNC, but has to throw some G&P instead.  The New Yorker finishes the round from rear control with punches…

Old School score Darrius Heyliger 10-9

Winner by Unanimous Decision: Darrius Heyliger (29x28x3)

Fight 4#

Jon Manley  vs.   Jason Trzewieczynski   |GT

Main Card | Welterweight | 170 lb (77.1 kg)

The fight begins with manley being the more active, throwing multiple punches and kicks, a cross landing flush then a high kick.  Jason answers back with a leg kick and they clinch.  They both continue to work punch combinations but neither are getting the better of it.  Jon is caught with a low blow and they stop the fight for him to recover, after 30 seconds the action continues.  Jon is trying to find his range but Jason is keeping his legs active keeping him at a distance, a botched kick lands Jason on the ground and jon is able to matador his legs and get side control.  Jason works two inverted triangles but jon is able to fight them off.  They scramble back and forth with jon getting the best of position on the ground for a few minutes, not much damage is done.  At the end of the round jon is able to land a little bit of GNP but Jason is able to jump up at the bell and looks no worse for the wear.

Rnd 2.  Jason comes out working kicks again and jon boxing, mid exchange Jason drops for a takedown but jon is able to fight it off.  Jon gets Jason pinned to the cage and is working knees, Jason tries to cut an angle and back out but jon gets a trip for the takedown.  Jon gets in a few random shots on the ground before they stalemate and are stood up.  Jasons kicks are starting to find their home more often as he lands one to the head and one to the leg.  Jason shoots and gets a takedown but isn’t able to do much with top control.  Jon gets the better of a scramble and is working side control again.  Jason is able to work to the guard in time to end the round.

Rnd 3.  Jon pushes the action early with a 1-2 then into a clinch which he uses to bully for a takedown.  Jon lands one or two from the top then controls for a while before Jason is able to stand.  Jon has control against the cage and is landing good knees to the body, Jason is keeping active as well but jon is starting to get the better of the exchanges.  Jon gets another takedown and moves comfortably into side control.  The round ends after a few scrambles but jon never looses control.

Winner via Unanimous decision Jon Manley

FIGHT # 5

Middleweight

Adam Quitt 0-2 (Team Never Surrender)

Hector Sanchez 0-2 (Elite MMA)

Hector is the local guy, fighting out of nearby Woonsocket, RI. (When you’re in Rhode Island, everything is nearby)  But it’s Adam who evokes the most immense roar from the crowd, as the Framingham firefighter, wrestling coach, and friend of Doug Bolanes is fighting in memory of Bolanes.  I was also told that he is donating his fight purse to the cause!

Round 1: Adam rushes in to a clinch against the cage and slams Sanchez down.  Sanchez stands and both fighters are landing elbows, punches, and knees in the clinch.  Quitt won’t quit and he gets another takedown to side control and continues the G&P with punches and knees to the body!  The crowd roars their approval “ADAM” “ADAM” “ADAM”.  Quitt continues the assault and Sanchez manages to get back to his feet and both warriors are striking in the clinch.  “ADAM” “ADAM” “ADAM” This pace is extremely fast, and has not let up.  Adam lands a big punch, followed by a takedown.  The 35 year old firefighter now unloads with a heavy dose of G&P, followed by a modified guillotine and the fire is finally out!!

Sanchez taps!

Winner by Tap Out due to Assault & Battery: Adam Quitt

Adam tells me after the fight that the pace was tiring and his opponent hit real hard, but he was fighting for Team Never Surrender and kept the spirit alive.  Great job!  I know this was supposed to be his last fight, but I have a feeling we’ll see the Framingham Hoser back in the cage sometime soon!!!

FIGHT# 6:

188.5 Catchweight

Jeff “Scary Nickname” Nader 4-3 (CCFA)

Todd “The Hulk” Chattelle 7-6 (Team United)

I was told that Chattelle was real late showing up to the weigh ins and weighed in at 188.5 lbs. for a 185 lb. Middleweight match-up, so the catch weight was agreed upon.  Nader entered to the song “If you’re gonna be dumb you gotta be tough”.

Round 1: Chattelle seems to be more aggressive, but nothing is landing early.  Nader clinches into a scramble, missing an overhand right, but Chattelle scores with knees.  Still standing, Nader forces a deep clinch, as both fighters continue to work real hard…there is a lot of energy being spent in this clinch.  Chattelle finally lands in top control after a takedown.  Nader pulls guard and Chattelle scores with a little G&P.  The fight stands back up as the round ends.

Old School score: Todd Chattelle 10-9

Round 2: Nader is jabbing and moving well.  He lands a big overhand right and then continues to stick the jab.  Todd Chattelle, though much bigger that Nader, seems to be really fatigued after that first round!  Nader dives low off a clinch and looks for a leg lock that he can’t secure.  He ends up on his back, pulling guard.  Chattelle stands out of guard and Nader pulls him back in.  Nader spins and locks in a leg lock and then transitions to a heel hook.  Chattelle gets warned for grabbing the cage as Nader works deep for the heel hook, but it won’t go.  Chattelle lands some elbows from top and stands up.  Nader stands and lands an overhand right followed by an uppercut to end the round!!!

Old School score: Jeff Nader 10-9

Round 3: The two trade strikes in the initial exchange of the final round with Nader having a slight edge.  ( Nader continues to move laterally and jab well.)  Chattelle seems real tired as Nadernomics begins to take effect. (Nadernomics is the study of an athlete’s diminished VO2 max and it’s relationship to athletic performance in the latter stages of endurance endeavors.)  The boys clinch and Nader blocks an oncoming knee with his cup!  (You folks reading, this blocking technique is not recommended; It comes under the category of things you do not try at home!)  It takes Nader the full allotted time to recover.  Both guys are cautiously circling, throwing hands and kicks.  The two warriors keep it standing right to the final bell, ending an exciting Fight of the Night!!!

Old School score: Tie 10-10

Winner by Split Decision: Todd “The Hulk” Chattelle

This one could have gone either way.  Nader had a sore leg and the requisite limp after the fight.  He also told me that he had a hole in his heart, as this was a real tough loss for him emotionally.  On the other side of the picket fence, Todd Chattelle looked like he’d been in a fight, his face swollen and cut with abrasions.  Great fight by both men!  This one just has “Rematch!” written all over it!

Fight #7

Mike Campbell   vs.   Tony Hervey   | GT

Main Event | Lightweight | 155 lb (70.3 kg)

Tony is amped up for this fight, he even gets into it a little bit with the crowd after a round of boo’s.  Mike enters the ring focused.  Tony comes out standing tall taking the center of the ring.  Mike misses with a big high kick and they square up again.  Mike puts together a little standup without much landing, then gets a big double leg and moves tony to the cage.  As tony tries to stand against the cage mike locks in a guillotine that looks to end it but tony is able to fight it off.  Mike has tony mounted against the cage and lands a few big looping strikes to his head before tony can make space and stand up.  They are feeling each other out but not much is connecting for either, tony’s unorthodox style seems to be keeping mike tentative.  Out of nowhere tony lands a big overhand right that catches mike on the ear and wobbles him. He goes for another hook that doesn’t land but takes mike off of his feet who is still rocked from the big right.  He hits the ground and isn’t defend himself as tony lands 2 clean strikes to the head before the ref stops the fight.

Winner Tony Hervey Via Stoppage at 3:30 of rnd 1
