As a longtime supporter of the New England MMA scene, it has always been one of my dreams to watch a show in my home state of Maine. Unfortunately, Maine is one of the final few states in the nation where the sport is still outlawed. This year that can change, but in order for it to happen I need your help.
Last fall I was elected to the Maine House of Representatives. This session I’ve submitted a bill entitled LD 1089, “An Act to Regulate Mixed Martial Arts Competitions, Exhibitions, and Events.”
The Public Hearing for LD 1089 will be scheduled within the next two weeks. If you live in Maine, I need to hear from you. Our elected officials need to understand what a wonderful economic development opportunity this is for Maine. If anybody can get this Bill passed in Maine it’s Matt. He lives, eats, breaths and sh*t’s MMA. But he needs your support and the support of your senator (if you’re from Maine). We all love MMA and getting it legalized in Maine can only help the sport and bring more action to New England. As for whether or not Matt responded to your phone calls or emails, I can tell you he’s read and listened to them and when he can he’ll return correspondence. Right now he is engulfed in the politics of getting this Bill passed. He needs your support. If you are from Maine, Google your Senator then send him/her an email and make a phone call TONIGHT! This goes to vote tomorrow and the more noise we make the better our chances of getting it passed.

Easy, Steve. I got your call and appreciate the message. I’ve been very busy these past few weeks. You’re from NH and I was focused on organizing Maine residents to turn out for the hearing yesterday. While I’m sure you can offer good information about the regulatory structure you have in NH, at this stage of the process it was more important to have the committee hear from citizens that want the sport legalized and regulated in Maine, and that’s where my efforts have been focused these past few weeks. Don’t take it personally–there are just so many hours in a day. I’ll be in touch soon.
