Saturday was the 25th installment of Untamed held at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough, MA. There were several great fights, a few choke outs, and some nasty cuts. Here’s how the night went.
Amateurs 3 X 2min Rounds:
Ryan Sanders 1-0 (Irish) vs. Ryan Quinn 1-0 (Best Way/ATT) 175lb
Round 1: Quinn shoots in and gets the takedown. He quickly passes Sanders’ guard and sets up an armbar. Sanders defends the armbar well, Quinn lets go and mounts. Quinn picks off a few shots and Sanders holds onto Quinn. Quinn then does the “worm” to try to get Sanders to let go.

Round 2: Sanders tosses a leg kick and Quinn shoots to get the double leg and easily mounts. Sanders tries to escape exposing his back and Quinn attempts an armbar. Sanders escapes the armbar and stands back up. Quinn leg trips Sanders and the round ends with Quinn in side control.

Round 3: Sanders swings away and seems to miss everything. Quinn gets the double and lands in Sanders’ half guard. Quinn is able to pass and take the back. The round ends with Quinn taking mount and landing a few shots.

Chris Capazolli 0-1 (Fightzone) vs. Cecil Haney 0-0 (AMMA) 145lb
Round 1: The two trade with Capazolli getting the better of the exchange. Haney clinches, tries a leg trip, then goes for a successful double into mount. Capazolli gives up his back and Haney attempts a RNC. Round ends with Haney getting mount and punching away.

Round 2: The two trade then clinch. They both exchange knees. Haney gets the leg trips and knees Capazolli in the dreaded coccyx about ten times.

Round 3: The two trade with Capazolli getting the better. He rocks Haney and the two clinch and trade knees. The round ends with Capazolli jumping into guard and attempting a guillotine.

Adam McQuaid 1-0 (Burgess) vs. Bobby Flynn 0-0 (Southcoast MMA) 170lb
Round 1: The two clinch and McQuaid gets a high single with a huge slam. Flynn is able to stand back up and lands a big knee. McQuaid leg trips Flynn and gets a ten finger guillotine. Flynn appears to tap but the referee doesn’t see it. The bell rings and Flynn is out cold.
Winner: Adam McQuaid by gullotine 2:00 of Round 1
Noah Hall 1-0 (Irish) vs. Sam Elliott 0-1 (Boneyard) 145lb
Round 1: Hall fakes a shot and lands an overhand right. The two trade strikes till Elliot gets a leg trip. Hall works a rubber guard until the end of the round.

Round 2: The two trade, clinch and trade knees. Elliot gets a double and punches from Hall’s guard.

Round 3: Elliot teeps and Hall goes in for the clinch. Elliot lands several foot stomps then both trade knees. Elliot gets another double. Hall works rubber guard again and appears to attempt a go-go plata. Round ends with the two standing and clinching.

Mike Commander 1-0 (NESF) vs. Casey Morrisette 0-0 (Moontide MMA) 170lb
Round 1: Both men swing away. Morrisette slips and is able to stand right back up to continue swinging. Morrisette attempts a shot but Commander sprawls. Morrisette keeps pushing and finally gets the takedown. Commander is able to stand back up and attempts a guillotine.

Round 2: Commander lands several body kicks and a very effective jab. The round ends with the two trading.

Round 3: Commander lands some very accurate strikes which bloody up Morrisette. Blood comes out of his mouth and nose and he appears to have a small cut beneath his left eye. Commander lands a mean uppercut and the referee stops the fight.

PRO 2 X 5 MIN
Joel Burgess 0-0 (Jiu Jitsu Nation) vs. Josh Johnson 0-0 (Best Way/ATT) 155lb
Round 1: Burgess gets the single leg takedown. He easily passes the guard and mounts. Johnston reestablishes his guard and lands several elbows. He tries to stand up but Burgess tackles him to the ground. After some scrambling, the two stand up and Johnston lands a leg trip. Johnston lands a few elbows and attempts a kneebar. Burgess defends and pounds away.

Round 2: The two trade, Burgess shoots and gets the takedown. Johnston attempts a guillotine but Burgess escapes and mounts. Burgess lands several strikes and tries for a RNC when Johnston gives up his back. Burgess puts on an arm/triangle choke and chokes out Johnston cold.

Mark Griffen 0-0 (Lakeville MMA) vs. Mahsea Boleay 1-0 (Bombsquad) 225lb
Round 1: Griffen teeps and tosses a body kick. The two clinch and trade knees. Boleay gets a leg trip but is unable to hold Griffen down. The two clinch and trade knees again. Boleay gets another leg trip into Griffen’s guard. Griffen attempts an armbar and a kneebar but abandons both after eating a few shots. Boleay attempts a heelhook but fails, giving up his back which Griffen takes. Close round.

Round 2: The two clinch and Boleay gets the takedown landing in Griffen’s half guard. From there Boleay lands several elbows while Griffen attempts to stand and establish guard.

Winner: Mahsea Boleay by Majority Decision
Luke Czekalski 0-4 (Brute Force) vs. Brent Reed 0-1 (Best Way/ATT) 155lb
Round 1: Czekalski tosses a leg kick and the two clinch. Both men trade knees and Reed slaps on a guillotine. Czekalski tries to jump up but Reed takes him down to the ground with the choke still on. Czekalski gets choked out cold.
Winner: Brent Reed by TKO gullotine choke out 1:16 of Round 1
Roger Brackett 4-1 (Lakeville MMA) vs. Ryan Contaldi 3-1 (Iron Horse) 205lb
Round 1: Brackett tosses a few leg kicks and Contaldi shoots in and gets the double. Brackett tries for an armbar however Contaldi defends and is able to get into side control. Brackett establishes his guard and attempts for a triangle. Contaldi escapes and gets side control again. Brackett stands up only to get taken down. Contaldi is in Brackett’s half guard and lands a few strikes before getting into his full guard.

Round 2: Brackett tries a spinning back kick that glances. Contaldi gets a double with a huge slam. Brackett attempts another triangle but Contaldi defends. Brackett cuts Contaldi with an elbow and the fight is stopped periodically for the doctor. Contaldi is able to continue and gets another takedown. Brackett attempts a guillotine but lets go. The round ends with Brackett landing some elbows and Contaldi landing a few strikes.

Rene Nazare 2-0 (Dungeon) vs. Vincent Sylvestre 1-1 (Sityodtong/Florian) 160lb
Round 1: The two trade and Nazare gets the takedown into Sylvestre’s guard. Nazare lands several elbows. Sylvestre is able to stand up and the two trade knees. Nazare gets the single leg takedown and lands several strikes, which opens a nasty cut below Sylvestre’s right eye. Nazare lands a few more strikes before the ref stops the fight.
Winner: Rene Nazare by TKO 4:03 of Round 1
Brent Kinberger 3-0 (MFS NH) vs. Don Carlo Clauss 4-1 (Bombsquad) 160lb
Round 1: Kinberger tries a flying knee but misses. Clauss gets the double and Kinberger tries for a heelhook. Clauss spins out and lands in Kinberger’s guard. He lands several shots till Kinberger slaps on a triangle. Kinberger lands a few elbows then goes for the triangle/armbar.
Winner: Brent Kinberger by triangle/armbar 2:32 of Round 1
Travis Bartlet 1-1 (Irish) vs. Mike Dexter 4-5 (Dexter VT) 205lb
Round 1: The two circle each other then Dexter rushes in for the clinch. He rolls on his ankle and lets out a loud scream. There is some confusion and Dexter tries to go after Bartlet on one leg. The referee stops the fight.
Winner: Travis Bartlet by TKO 1:19 Round 1
Overall it was a good night. Many of the fighters showed heart, especially Morrissete. It was shocking to witness the same thing that happened to Dexter in his fight with Spiegal occur once again during his fight with Bartlet.
