Rick asked me to preview the upcoming cagefightmma event because he saw first-hand that I should have been a journalism major when he saw my preview for the Reality Fighting event that just happend. (By the way, sorry about the mix up with the emailing of that write up.) Not that the amateur fights aren’t important, but I am going to skip the preview on those because I have yet to see any of them fight.

AMATEUR FIGHTS:
1. Heidi Compos – MFS-NH vs. Shannon Harney –
Team DWMMA  110#   *Female MMA Fight!
2. Stephen Boris – Team DWMMA vs. Kenny
    Rodriguez – Team Fury  150#
3. Sam Kesseli – Team K.I. vs. John Santos – Team Fury
    150#
4. Tim Bagley – Mon Kai Karate vs. Derek Sullivan –
    Premier Martial Arts  160#
 PRO FIGHTS:

Fight 1 ~ Christian Correia – Team Kaze vs. Anthony Leone – Bombsquad  145#

Mixedmartialarts.com has Leone listen as 2-0, counting his amateur fights. So he and Correia have about the same ring time, which will make for a well matched fight; on paper. I’ve fought Christian and I’ve seen him fight two other times. So far I am his only loss and I think he continues his winning streak here. Christian shows confidence in his standup and his jaw and you don’t see that in a lot of jiu jitsu guys. He finished his last two fights by submission and I think this one ends the same. Correia triangle choke in the 2nd.

Fight 2 ~ Jeff Soucie – Team Fury vs. Todd Solek – IMB * 170# Qualifier Fight

On paper, this fight looks overmatched, but it’s clear that the cagefightmma guys know what they are doing. Jeff is 2-0 and Todd is 1-5. I saw Jeff fight Aaron Shultz in his first fight and I was pretty impressed with his submission victory. I’ve seen Todd fight and trained with him at SNEMMA for a little while, and Todd is tough as hell. If you check out his record, he’s lost to big name guys/up and comers in Justin Hammerstrom, Dennis Olsen, John Manley, and Abe Pitrowski. He doesn’t take easy fights. This is going to be a well matched fight but I think as long as Todd doesn’t get caught with a sub, he is going to be too strong for Jeff in this one. Solek GNP in the 1st.

Fight 3 ~ Eddie Brito - Team Valor vs. Brendan Hoxie – Hoxie Bros. 170#

I think we all know who Brendan Hoxie is, but Eddie Brito is very new to this sport. He is (1-1) with his first fight coming in August. Even know it doesn’t look like it on paper, I think Brito bit off more than he could chew here. I am going to say Hoxie is gonna showcase some of his nice ground skills here. It’s always fun to watch Hoxie fight guys that aren’t Mike Campbell or Dan Lauzon. Hoxie is gonna win this fight by armbar in the 1st.

Fight 4 ~ Ken Avery – Team Valor vs. Arthur Mullen – MMA of Southern ME  225+#

This is a fight between a first time fighter, in Avery, and a fighter with one win inside the cage, Mullen. It’s evident that you can’t pick a winner in this situation, but i’m gonna do it, just because I have a betting nature. Ken Avery by TKO 1st round.

Fight 5 ~ James Soucie – Team Fury vs. Mike Tierney – MMA of Southern ME  145#

I’ve seen both of these guys fight and I have to say that this is one of the better matched fights of the night. Both of these guys are new to the sport so there is no ring time advantage here. I am going to take Tierney by decision.

Fight 6 ~ Dennis Olsen – Triumph BJJ vs. Eric Henry – Bombsquad  *170# Qualifier Fight

I like this matchup. Both of these guys have had enough to ring experience to get out the jitters, so right to the action we will go. I saw Olsen fight Weatherby in May and that was too short of a fight to get a good idea of how good he is, but his record shows that he likes to fight and doesn’t waste time, with all of his fights being finished in the first round. Eric Henry has an extensive career with a record of 8-4. He has had some ups and downs, but i’ve seen a few videos of Henry and know that he can scrap. This one is too close to call, so i’m definitely not gonna make a guess. Olsen by TKO 2nd round.

Fight 7 ~ Cody Lightfoot – Seacoast MMA vs. Jason Dolloff – Rumford Hardcore  225+#

I don’t know much about Lightfoot, but Doloff strikes me as a dude that would step up to take a fight if one of the fighters had the preshow jitters, even if he was already drinking at the show. Dolloff is gonna take him down and impose his will. Dolloff by TKO 1st round.

Fight 8 ~ Cesar Barros – Team Nexus vs. Lamont Lister – Bombsquad *205# Qualifer Fight

Barros is (2-2) and Lister (6-4) are both coming off of wins and are looking to extend their winning streaks here, unfortunately that’d be impossible. I’ve never seen either of these guys fight but based upon record and experience only I will say Lister by TKO in the 2nd round.
