First of all… WOW! This card was amazing. Between getting the crap kicked out of me in the locker rooms and watching DIEKMAN beat down Schultz, I’d say it was a pretty damn good time. This is my first time writing a review, so bare with me. Biggie decided to get wasted instead of sitting down and watching the fights.
140 Am – Nick Pepper 1-0 (Aggression) vs Jeremy Adley 0-0 (Generation)
Rd: 1 – The fight starts off with a head kick from Nick Pepper. Adley is working the double for an easy takedown. After holding side mount for some time, Adley manages to take Pepper’s back but Pepper is able to fight off the choke. Both fighters are brought to their feet for some more standup action. Pepper takes full advantage of his stand up experience and unloads on Adley for the KO victory.
Winner by KO at 1:50 of round one: Nick Pepper
190 Pro – Kipp Kollar 0-0 (NESF) vs Mike Laliberte 5-1-1 (Irish)
In their careers, both fighters have generated wins via submission. So I was not expecting much striking to occur during this fight.
Rd: 1 – The action begins, Laliberte shoots in for a double and takes down Kollar. Kipp is holding Laliberte in his guard with no strikes thrown by either man. Kollar is trying to work submissions from his guard and is able to set up a tight triangle.
Winner by triangle submission at 1:45 of round one: Kipp Kollar
165 Am – Bill Vasquezi 0-1 (IMDC) vs John Morrissey Jr. 1-0 (Boneyard)
RD: 1 – Right off the bat Morrissey is throwing some bombs to the face of Vasquezi. Morrissey was clearly stronger and more talented than Vasquezi. There were several times during the round when Vasquezi is blindly shooting to get away from Morrissey’s strikes. Morrissey’s kicks also seemed to be getting to Vasquezi. The first round is ended with a guillotine attempt by Morrissey that nearly sends both fighters out of the ring.
RD: 2 – Vasquezi looks winded coming into the second round. Both fighters exchange jabs, along with some knees. Vasquezi attempts to shoot but Morrissey ends up getting Vasquezi in side mount. Morrissey mounts and starts unloading some punches until Vasquezi turns onto his stomach. Morrissey is unable to take advantage and ends up being swept onto his back. The round is ended with Vasquezi being in Morrissey’s guard.
RD: 3 – The round starts off with Morrissey attempting a flying superman punch that completely misses. More strikes are thrown by Morrissey, which causes Vasquezi to frantically attempt more takedowns. Morrissey is finally brought down to the ground. Vasquezi is in guard for a short while until being swept. The round is ended with Morrissey throwing bombs to the face of Vasquezi from inside the guard.
Winner by UD: John Morrissey Jr.
210 Pro – Mark Hoxie 0-5 (Shikaku Ryu) vs Chris Devno (AZMMA)
RD: 1 – Immediately after Hoxie is hit, he starts to scramble for a takedown. Mark is finally able to get Devno to the ground. The takedown was interesting; Hoxie hung on for dear life to Devno’s feet, causing him to tip over. Devno was able to pull guard. After some time, both fighters are stood up. Hoxie attempts an awkward superman punch which causes him to slip and fall. The fight was ended with Hoxie getting a little rattled which caused him to the ground and start to play dead.
Winner by KO at 2:55 of round one: Chris Devno
140 Pro – Jonny Catarino 0-0 (Independent) vs Ryan Parker 0-0 (Boneyard)
RD: 1 – The real action of the fight starts off with Parker getting Catarino down with a double. After holding side mount quite well, Parker makes the transition into mount. The fight is ended with Catarino being caught in a tight armbar.
Winner by arm bar at 1:24 of round one: Ryan Parker
185 Am – Matt Burke 0-0 (Feijao) vs Dan Cramer 2-0 (Best Way/ATT)
RD 1: The fight starts off with Cramer rattling off a bunch of punches, with only a few connecting. Cramer is able to work a takedown. Cramer is able to pass into mount, where he unloads.
Winner by TKO at 1:05 of round one: Dan Cramer
155 Pro – Damian Vitale 0-0 (Ultimate) vs Mike Gresh 0-0 (CCFA)
RD: 1 – There is an exchange of strikes standing up, along with some grappling to set up a takedown. Vitale is able to get the takedown after a long struggle. I didn’t see exactly when Gresh got his cut, but it looked bad enough for the doc to take a look at it. The fight is resumed after the doc gives the OK to Gresh. Both fighters start standing up where there is a continued struggle to set up a takedown. Gresh attempts a takedown, but it is reversed by Vitale. Gresh holds Vitale in the guard for some time until both fighters are back on their feet. Gresh was throwing some pretty good knees until Vitale gets a takedown. Gresh is on his stomach and looking very tired at this point, which gave Vitale the opportunity to sink in the choke.
Winner by rear naked choke at a STONE COLD 3:16 of round one: Damian Vitale
170 Pro – Brandon Hoxie 2-5 (Shikaku Ryu) vs Mark Chaupette 0-1 (Boneyard)
I would find it difficult to try and kick the crap out of a guy that was fighting for charity. Chuck O’Neil had no problem attempting it, but Chuck doesn’t have a soul. Hoxie on the other hand showed true class in donating his purse to Chaupette’s charity for Muscular Dystrophy. I had the opportunity to talk to Hoxie before his fight, he said along with donating his purse, he also agreed to no head kicks… very classy.
Oh yeah, Hoxie’s entrance included confetti, a strip tease and Hoxie wearing a bra… a pink bra.
RD: 1 – There was a minor exchange of punches until Chaupette got the takedown. Chaupette was showing some good ground skills until he got caught in an arm bar.
Winner by arm bar at 0:30 of round one: Brandon Hoxie
185 Pro – Juan Urena 0-2 (Ultimate MMA) vs Chris Rondeau 1-2 (Fight Zone)
RD: 1 – Both fighters are exchanging knees. Rondeau moves in for the takedown and it is successful. Urena is on his back holding on to Rondeau’s leg. Rondeau was not going to lose by foot lock, to prevent that he started to wail on the face of Urena. Rondeau is finally able to get his foot free and he is in good position to start throwing some more chilling punches.
Rondeau shows his appreciation to the fans by flicking them all off… I love it.
Winner by TKO at 1:40 of round one: Chris Rondeau
155 Pro Superfight- Dan Lauzon 4-2 (Aggression) vs James Meals 4-16 (Renzo)
The heaviest metal that I have heard is blaring. There is what looks to be Man-Bear-Pig walking out to the ring. I rub my eyes and it turns out to be Dan Lauzon… feauuh thought it was Al Gore sneaking up on me.
RD: 1 – Lauzon comes out throwing overhand bombs. Meals tries to contain him by throwing some strikes that aren’t quite connecting. Lauzon takes him down, where a great display of jiu jitsu begins. Meals does not want any part of Lauzon’s ground game at this point and starts to stand up, but Lauzon gets a guillotine and pulls guard. Meals shows great resistance and is able to escape the submission. Lauzon transitions to butterfly guard, trying to work a submission from there. Meals is swept and Lauzon is in mount. Meals again tries to stand, so Lauzon responds in trying another tight guillotine. Lauzon pulls guard but Meals is able to escape. The fighters are stood up, where Meals tries to work his standup. Lauzon gets the takedown and tries for another guillotine. Meals is able to escape and the round is over.
RD: 2 – There is a minor exchange of strikes before Lauzon is able to connect with a clean straight punch to the face of Meals. Lauzon is able to work the double. From the ground, Meals attempts a triangle, but Lauzon resists and moves into mount. Meals shows some good ground skills and is able to get the sweep. From the guard, Lauzon attempts several submissions. Meals is swept and Lauzon is in side mount. From side mount, Lauzon is able to throw some bombs that would finish the fight in the final seconds of the round.
Winner by TKO at 3:57 of round two: Dan Lauzon
145 Pro Qualifier – Josh Grispi 8-1(SSS) vs Paul Gorman 5-4 (AMMA)
RD: 1 – Grispi starts out using his jab and landing some good shots on Gorman. Gorman looks a little shaken up early in the fight. From the clinch, Grispi is throwing some big knees to the body. Gorman is able to get a takedown. Grispi has a lethal guard and is able to work the triangle on Gorman.
Winner by triangle submission at 2:29 of round one: Josh Grispi
145LB TITLE
Spencer Paige 3-1 (CNYMMA) vs Leandro “Tatu” Escobar 5-2 (Best Way/ATT)
RD: 1 – Tatu was definitely on the defensive end for a large portion of the fight. To start out the action, Paige is moving fast and showing great standup ability. Tatu is trying to get on the offensive but cannot seem to connect. Paige is able to rock Tatu again and again with a straight punch. Paige slips and falls, and Tatu is trying to capitalize. The round is ended with Tatu throwing punches to the body of Paige.
RD: 2 – The sprawling begins… Tatu comes into the round wanting nothing to do with Paige’s standup. Tatu attempts a double but Paige sprawls and Tatu keeps pushing to get the takedown, causing Paige to slide out of the ring. The same scenario is repeated again. Tatu decides to go another route; he is able to knock Paige down with a straight punch. Paige is back on his feet. Tatu is slammed to the ground by Paige, and soon after both fighters are stood up. Tatu is not making much contact standing up, so he tries for another single. Paige sprawls and Tatu continues to try and finish the takedown. Paige ends up sliding out of the ring. The round is ended with Tatu failing to get the single and Paige responds by throwing a half-dozen punches from the sprawling position.
RD: 3 – Paige’s standup is looking great. He is rattling Tatu with straights again and again. Tatu can’t do much but work his defense so he tries to get Paige on the ground. Tatu goes for another single and Paige ends up sprawling out of the ring. This scenario occurs several times. Paige is warned to not sprawl out of the ring. The sprawling out of the ring occurs again causing Paige to be penalized a point. I thought this was bull because Tatu was the one that continued to push him out of the ring. But whatever Paige still got what he deserved… the victory.
Winner by majority decision: Spencer Paige (Paige is the new 145 champion)
HEAVY WEIGHT TITLE
JOSH DIEKMAN 8-1 (Strike Zone) vs Pat Schultz 6-0-1 (CCFA/Sityodtong)
I didn’t even write any notes for this fight because when DIEKMAN came out I dropped my pen out of fear. DIEKMAN is not human he is a scary monster.
RD: 1 – Schultz comes out showing good stand up. He gets DIEKMAN with some good leg kicks. There is an exchange of some huge punches from the two. DIEKMAN charges at Schultz like he took his lunch money, and proceeds to beat the living crap out of him. DIEKMAN gets Schultz with a good shot to the noggin and then proceeds to beat Schultz’s face in. DIEKMAN did what he said he would do; he knocked the frosted tips of Schultz.
There were many funny things that happened at the end of the fight that some people could’ve missed.
DIEKMAN rips the belt from the ring girl’s hand.Varner looks at DIEKMAN, DIEKMAN responds by giving him a “what in the hell do you want” look, along with “you got a problem” look. Varner then responds with a “please don’t hurt me” look. When Schultz woke up, he asked his corners if he went out, the answer was a clear yes and Schultz responded with a depressed “shit!”DIEKMAN showed some true class in giving Schultz a hug after tearing him a new one, along with holding up Schultz hand… very classy. I peed my pants in fear of my life.
