Greg Rebello The Fighter

Greg Rebello; Portrait of a Fighter
From Old School

Greg Rebello first walked up those three steps and into the MMA game seven years ago. After a 1-2 start to his career, Greg went on an eleven fight win streak. That streak came to a halt when he lost to Dan Cramer via decision on the Bellator 39 card last April. Then, last September, Greg got back to his winning ways when he head kicked his way to a win over highly ranked Cody Lightfoot. The NorthEast MMA top ranked Light Heavyweight will be back in action this Friday night when CES returns to Twin Rivers in Lincoln, RI with their first event of 2012, CES Extreme Measures.

CES Match maker Pat Sullivan has assembled one of the highest quality fight cards in the region’s history. In order to match Rhode Island native Rebello, Sullivan decided to import Team Bombsquad fighter Mike Stewart. I caught up with Rebello yesterday, and the always friendly fighter shared his thoughts on his up coming fight.

“I’m coming out of my best camp ever,” says Greg. “Mike Campbell has been working my conditioning. I’ve been training at Tri Force, Sityodtong, and CCFA. I feel I’m in the best shape I can be right now.”
Rebello is coming off a big win last fall against Cody Lightfoot, and he compares his upcoming opponent to his last one. “I wrestled Cody in the first round; I think I lost that round, but it was close. I showed I can wrestle. Mike Stewart is a wrestler. He’s real big, like Cody, and he cuts a lot of weight (to get to 195lbs.). He’s a lot like Cody. I think my striking will win this one!”

Rebello has some thoughts on the CES promotion as well. “Where were these guys two years ago? Hey just started their promotion, what?, a year and a half ago! And now they’re the top in the region. They care about the fighters. The weigh-ins are totally professional. Everything from start to finish is professional!”

With the UFC and Bellator in the hunt for top regional fighters, Greg will look to showcase his striking once again. We all know that the big shows want to see fighters finish fight. In his last fight, Greg changed the tide of the fight with one head kick. This is the nature of being that guy who can wrestle with the ground fighter, but can end the fight at any time with one flurry or one kick.

Greg will have an All-Star corner in Mike Gresh (CCFA), Johnny Johnston (Sityodtong), and Tim Burrill. Greg could be just one exciting win away from taking that next step in his career. That next step could be this Friday Night at Twin Rivers, Rhode Island. That next step might be another head kick!
