Victory Promotions Inaugural Event: Review
From Old School
Last night, November 12th, Victory Promotions held their inaugural event at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA. Promoter Vinnie Fraumeni officially tossed his MMA hat into the already crowded NorthEast cage and put on an evening of MMAction, putting others on notice that there’s a new MMAdog north of The Bean Town! The crowd was sparse at best, but the arena holds 8,000; this being their first event we’ll just put that behind us. I spoke with Promo Vinnie afterwards and he seems to be committed to working out the bugs and moving forward with the promotion in the same location in March.
The night featured nine MMA fights; three Pro (three five minute rounds) and six Amateur (three three minute rounds). I took the press section up on top of the arena, which afforded great views of the cage from the top view (Kind of like the rafter seats at Plymouth Memorial Hall without Shelly the Waitress). I felt like a rafter rat, but the seats were comfortable and the cage and big screen views were perfect! Several big screens gave everyone an extra angle and nice replays. Fight cards and a nice program were provided for the fans and press as well.
When I first arrived at the venue, I pulled up to the security parking and Vinnie had put my name on the VIP parking list (Thanks Vinnie!), so I pulled into the secured lot right next to the entrance. As I got out of my truck I noticed the guy getting out of the car next to mine had on a real nice, but older and well worn, leather jacket with the original UFC logo on the back; this was the logo from 1993! I haven’t seen that one in years! But then again I don’t often park my truck next to Tank Abbott! No sh*t! And guess what? Tank Abbott was on his best behavior and was a real nice and approachable guy!
When I’m writing about heavy hitters, they don’t get much heavier that Tank Abbott, but I do have to throw a shout out to some of the other heavy hitters in the house. Sucker Punch Tom made a nice piece of change selling his stuff. Reg Fighter TJ was also in attendance. Steve Rita and the Esposito’s (Yeah, Mr. and Mrs.) were in the house as well. Rick Hawn, Chuck O’Neil, Doomsday, Jorge Rivera and even ButterBean were also on hand…
Let’s talk fights…
FIGHT # 1:
Amateur Lightweight
Casey Lamonte 1-1 (SSSF)
Peter Barrett 1-1 (Maxx)
Round 1: The fighters come out striking and Casey clinches and strikes as he pushes the fight to the cage. Casey methodically climbs to rear mount while Peter is still standing. Casey locks in both hooks and starts working good rear control while Peter is still on his feet. Peter bends over and Casey rides too high and slides off. Peter Barrett works for a semi-standing mount and just unloads like a Wal-Mart stock boy and the ref jumps in and stops the beating! Casey is out cold!!!
Winner by KO @ 1:40 Rd 1: Peter Barrett
Casey was out for several minutes. It was a bit scary, but he did walk out on his own.
FIGHT # 2:
Amateur Middleweight
Nick Logan 2-0 (Doughboy MMA)
Hiago Fontura 1-0 (Fenix Fight Club)
This fight is one of the most anticipated fights of the program; American Wrestler Logan vs. BJJ Fontura. Both of these middleweights came in well under weight, giving me the impression that they could some day drop to Welterweight. Both are undefeated and neither has had a fight last very long. Nick is a Lowell wrestler playing in his own back yard. Hiago drove up from Marlboro to be the turd in that sandbox.
Round 1: Nick Logan forces the clinch, adding a few punches to the recipe. Hiago drives a few knees into Logans mid section. Still clinching, Logan throws a crisp, tight right hook that drops Fontura. Logan follows up with his Lowell G&P, but the ref says “not on my watch”, and the fight is stopped. It looked like Hiago was out for a flash; good stoppage.
Winner by TKO @ 0:22 Rd 1: Nick Logan
I have seen all three of Nick Logan’s fights and I think he’s won them all in less that 1 ½ minutes. He’s the real deal! Oh, yeah, that Lowell back yard sandbox is clean. I’m going out on a limb here and saying that two years from now Nick Logan will be right there in the mix with the top Welterweight Pros here in the NorthEast.
FIGHT # 3:
Amateur Welterweight
Cody Anderson 0-0 (Gracie Barra NH)
Ryan DiBartolomeo 0-0 (Maxx)
Cody Anderson has not yet even stepped into the cage, but I’ve been hearing a lot about this 18 year older from Gracie Barra NH. He’s got John Orto and Dennis Olson working his corner.
Round 1: Cody starts by cracking Ryan with an overhand right and Ryan forces the clinch. They trade knees in the clinch, fall to the mat, and work right back up. Cody nails a slick hip throw, landing in top side mount. Ryan works it back to the feet and they are still in a clinch. Cody separates and lands a crisp combo and Ryan is briefly dazed. Ryan clinches back up, but Cody finds some separation and he lands another crisp combo of punches. Another flurry has Ryan stumbling to his left; Cody drops him with a big right and Ryan is down and the ref steps in for the stoppage.
Winner by TKO @ 2:35 rd 1: Cody Anderson
Cody looked smooth and relaxed in his highly anticipated Ammy debut. I have a feeling that Ryan is a real good fighter; it’s just that tonight he met the future. Afterwards, Cody told me that he had a couple of fights prior to this one fall through. But once this fight actually got under way he was not nervous at all.
Cody is one of those few fighters who can win a fight in the cage but is still too young to attend the after party. Nice job, rookie!!!
FIGHT # 4:
Amateur Lightweight
Marquis Brown 1-1 (Worcester MMA/Abusado)
Mike Shannon 1-0 (Maxx)
Round 1: Brown misses a high kick and falls down, so Shannon jumps into his guard. Brown sweeps to top guard, works it to the cage for some G&P. Brown lifts and slams Shannon, then stands up and out of guard and they’re back on their feet. Brown grabs a leg for a lift and a big slam. Brown goes to side and then mount. Shannon throws his legs up and sneaks out the back door and up on to the feet the fight goes. Brown nails one more takedown as the round ends.
Old School score: Marquis Brown 10-9
Round 2: Shannon starts the second with a head kick that briefly dazes Brown, but he can’t capitalize; Brown nails another takedown. Shannon pulls guard, but Brown works to mount and drops some G&P. Mike Shannon tries to stay busy, but it’s all Marquis Brown here. Brown goes to side mount as Shannon tries to work from the bottom, but the round ends.
Old School score: Marquis Brown 10-9
Round 3: Marquis Brown charges out for the third and lands a clean knee and a nice three punch combo that wobbles Shannon. Brown grabs another takedown into top of guard. Mike Shannon is staying real busy from the bottom with hammer fists and punches. He pulls a high guard, but can’t seem to find a submission, so he’s content to stay busy from the bottom with small strikes from the bottom through the end of the round, a real close one!
Old School score: Marquis Brown 10-9
Official score: Winner by Unanimous Decision, Marquis Brown
FIGHT # 5:
Pro Flyweight
Katie Merrill 0-0 (Wai Kru)
Kaline Mederos 0-1 (Gilletts)
Katie Merrill has John Doomsday Howard in her corner; that’s gotta count for something!
Round 1: These ladies come out swinging like a couple of windmills in a tornado! Merrill is clipped and stumbles, but gets right back up and at it. They clinch it up and keep up the pace with some dirty boxing. A brief separation, a missed head kick from Merrill, and they’re back in the clinch. Merrill is the one forcing the clinch to the cage and generally out muscling Mederos. Merrill pushes hard to the cage, occasionally throwing in an elbow or short punch. Katie works it to the ground where Mederos grabs a guillotine; Merrill pulls out and moves to side mount with some small G&P and good top control to end an exciting round!
Old School score: Katie Merrill 10-9
Round 2: Katie clinches up and Kaline grabs a guillotine and tries to jump guard, but Katie Merrill passes to side mount and out of trouble. Merrill works to mount, adding some Wai Kru G&P. Mederos tries to walk the cage to get out of trouble, but she walks right into a Katie Merrill arm bar for the submission! Wow! That was a great fight!
Winner by Arm Bar @ 1:40 Rd 1: Katie Merrill
Nice job done by both ladies. It’s hard for two ladies of this caliber to find well matched opponents at a particular weight class. Both girls fought as well and as hard as any of the guys tonight!
FIGHT # 6:
Amateur Lightweight
Ben Peak 2-0 (Worcester MMA/Abusado)
Brian Rossi 0-1 (Rivera MMA/Burrill BJJ)
Jorge Rivera is working the corner of Rossi!
Round 1: Rossi forces the clinch against the much taller Peak. Ben Peak lands several quick body punches in the clinch. Rossi eventually gets the takedown into top of guard. Peak tries a kimura from the bottom that isn’t gonna happen. Peak ties up tight from the bottom. Rossi postures for some striking and Peak grabs an arm bar; Rossi slams out of trouble and the ensuing scramble puts the fighters back on their feet. Rossi clinches up to end a very close round.
Old School score: Ben Peak 10-9
Round 2: Ben peak lands a nice thudding body kick; they trade a few blocked kicks and it’s Rossi again clinching to the cage. Rossi works wicked hard for a takedown and finally gets it after a great effort. Peak works a sweep to mount, then to rear mount with both hooks in. Keeping the hooks in, Peak starts to strike with punches. Rossi does all he can to defend, but it’s all Ben Peak as he opens up a can of Worcester Whoop-ass right through the end of the round!
Old School Score: Ben Peak 10-9
Round 3: Peak leg kicks and sticks a jab to start the third. Rossi grabs another clinch and takedown into top of guard. Peak hips his way up and out and the fight is back on the feet. Rossi clinches and is able to work a nice slam. Ben Peak quickly gets up and answers with a takedown into top of guard. Peak lands some small G&P, but when he hears the ten second clap, he postures up and unloads like a UPS worker at Christmas, punctuating a great effort and pitching a three round shut out!
Old School score: Ben Peak 10-9
Official score: Winner by Unanimous Decision: Ben Peak
Ben Peak moves to 3-0
FIGHT # 7:
Pro Welterweight
Ricardo Georges 0-0 (TPS)
Carlos Neto 0-0 (Wai Kru)
In another highly anticipated fight, we see two warriors from dramatically different styles and back grounds each making their Pro debut. Ricardo makes his Pro debut after leaving a 7-1 Amateur record and # 1 Ammy ranking behind him. Carlos Neto has no Amateur experience for his this fight, but he has an extensive BJJ pedigree and Doomsday Howard in his corner! Let’s do this.
Round 1: The fighters circle cautiously, throwing range finding jabs, kicks, and fakes, but nothing too serious. Neto times a perfect double leg shot that is real deep and he lands in top of guard. He easily passes guard to side and methodically works to mount. There’s not much action going on, but Neto is just controlling from top and Ricardo is neutralizing from the bottom. Ricardo works to half guard and locks the leg down and works it back to guard. At the ten second clap. Neto postures up and drops some big punches to end the round.
Old School Score: Carlos Neto 10-9
Round 2: Lots of circling and caution and Neto catches a kick but can’t turn it into a takedown. Ricardo throws a single punch and drops Neto like a bad habit. Ricardo follows right into top of guard, but the BJJ master just sweeps him and gains top position. Neto works some small punches from the top of guard. Ricardo ties up from the bottom and Neto is content to let him. Neto just uses enough BJJ top control and small G&P strikes to keep the fight busy enough so the ref doesn’t intervene. Ricardo throws a little rubber guard at him with no real threat.
Old School score: Carlos Neto 10-9
Round 3: Ricardo starts the third by dropping Neto again with a single punch. This time he steps back and Neto stands right up and shoots quickly into another takedown. Neto works a kimura, but Ricardo fights it off. Neto transitions to an arm triangle and Ricardo isn’t having that one either. Ricardo isn’t able to answer this level of BJJ control. When Neto takes you down, you stay down! The remainder of the fight is simply a continuation of the first two rounds, where Neto rides the top with great control and Ricardo tries his best to neutralize. Again, when Neto hears the ten second clap he drops some BJJ bombs; Ricardo rolls out to defend and Neto tries a RNC to end the round!
Old School score: Carlos Neto 10-9
Official score: Winner by Unanimous Decision: Carlos Neto
You could call this win uneventful, efficient, boring; call it what you want, but Carlos Neto just beat the best 170 pound rookie in the NorthEast in his very first MMA fight! Get used to it!!!
FIGHT # 8:
CO-MAIN EVENT
Pro Welterweight
Matt Lee 13-10-1 (The Factory)
Tiawan Howard 9-7 (Rising Dragon)
Tiawan Howard is a tough journeyman fighter out of Cleveland, OH. He is coming off a recent win over Alex Karalexis, and would love nothing more than to piss in Matt Lee’s corn flakes!
Round 1: Lee starts with a nice leg kick. They the trade some strikes and Howard forces the clinch. Lee nails a sweet takedown into top side mount. Howard muscles a sweep and he’s now on top. Lee butterfly sweeps back and now he’s in mount. Howard arches and rolls to top of guard. Lee pushes out and stands. Howard throws a nice head kick. Lee uses the jab to re establish his range. Lee connects on a crisp combination. Howard responds with a low kick that Lee catches and converts to a takedown. Howard sweeps to top and the fighters stand; Howard connects on a three punch combo to end a great first round! Wicked close!!!
Old School score: Matt Lee 10-9
Round 2: Lee sticks a few long jabs in Howard’s face and Howard returns the favor with a leg kick. A real nasty 30 second striking battle erupts (with both fighters landing some clean punches) and that ends in a clinch. They separate and Lee jabs; Howard then puts on a kick clinic with a body kick, spin hook kick, karate side kick, and a few that he invented right on the spot. Wow! Matt Lee has seen enough of this Bruce Lee stuff and he nails another fancy takedown into side mount. He works carefully and methodically to mount. Lee finishes the round on top, moving from one position to another while landing G&P and stealing another round!
Old School score: Matt Lee 10-9
Round 3: The fight of the Night pushes on into the third. Lee catches a kick, but eats a large order of Cleveland uppercuts for his efforts. Lee finally gets the takedown and works for rear mount. He’s looking for RNC when Howard sweeps to top. Lee calmly uses wrist and head control and stands right back up. Back on the feet, lee starts working the jab; Howard kicks and punches his way to a clinch. Lee wraps him up and leg sweeps a takedown into top of guard. A bit of ground scramble finds Howard pushing from the bottom and they are back standing. Howard tries to steal the third round with a big flurry as the fight ends!!
Old School score: Tie 10-10 (I very rarely do this, but that’s how close the third round was!)
Official score: Winner by Unanimous Decision; Matt Lee
Tiawan Howard is a real good fighter and a great guy. He always brings the fight and he really put on a show tonight!
That was an awesome fight. In the cage, Matt lee, 40 years old and counting, gets on the microphone and calls out Marcus Davis…I think!
FIGHT # 9:
MAIN EVENT
Pro Lightweight
Rich “No Love” Clemente 40-20-1 (Gladiators Academy)
Ronnie Rogers 10-6 (Finney’s Hit Squad)
This fight is the Main Event that features a UFC veteran from Louisiana and a journeyman fighter out of South Carolina; there’s not a whole lot of local interest in this one.
Round 1: Clementi lands a body kick and a crisp punch combination. Into a clinch, Clementi nails a takedown and Rogers tries a guillotine, but it’s from half guard and not really too threatening. Clementi rides out the guillotine attempt on top for a minute until Rogers abandons it. Back on the feet Rogers clinches it to the cage and a long stalemate of a stand up clinch that features some foot stomps and small dirty boxing, but nothing else much. Clementi probably wins this very uneventful round.
Old School score: Rich Clementi 10-9
Round 2: Clementi throws some strikes and he forces the clinch. He climbs on Rogers’ back and secures his position with two hooks as he begins to look for RNC. Rogers defends, but not for long. Rogers taps from the RNC!
Winner by RNC @ 2:00 or so Rd 2: Rich “No Love” Clementi
An interesting night of fights comes to a close. Doomsday, accompanied by his lovely lady Shelly, joined me in the press box for a few minutes after the show and we had time to talk about a few things. On his recent win over Dennis Olson, he told me that Olson is stronger than most and that Dennis could hold his own in the UFC! Doomsday is also working on a nice three fight deal that he will be at liberty to expand upon in a few weeks, once the ink on the contract is dry. A lot of us went to the after party over at The Brewery Exchange, which is owned by Promo Vinnie. Vinnie showed us a great time both at the Fights as well as at the Exchange! Here’s how the fights stacked up:
AWARDS:
FIGHT OF THE NIGHT: Matt Lee and Tiawan Howard
KO OF THE NIGHT: Peter Barrett
SUBMISSION OF THE NIGHT: Katie Merrill
Award winners can pick up your bonus checks at the Brewery Exchange during normal business hours!
It’s a beautiful fall day here in New England. My job here is done, so I’m gonna go out there and enjoy the weather. Remember, I write ‘em like I see ‘em and if I don’t see ‘em I make ‘em up!
Old School

How many were in attendance, roughly?
6-7 hundred is my guess
congrats to carlos neto…his top game is obviously unreal and ricardo got taken down, no excuses..ricky was never in real trouble, and dropped him twice. Carlos is a nice kid n we wish him well, we are def looking to fight someone who will bang next fight n give the crowd a show cuz that fight sucked to watch
UMM I THINK HE WAS IN TROUBLE IN THE END OF THE FIRST WITH NETO DROPING SOME SERIOS GNP… AND IN THE LAST ROUND AND HEY IF HE DIDNT WANT TO B TAKING DOWN HE SHOULD OF WORK ON HES WRESTLING JUST SAING.. AND THAT FIGHT DID NOT SUCK TO WACTH..
HOW CAN U SAY IT SUCKED WATCHING YOUR OWN FIGHTER FIGHT … IT SUCKS WACHING U…..
Holy shit Franklin thats funny, MIKE if Ricardo wants someone to bang with Chip Morraza Pollard will bang ….. Just sayin !!
franklin carlos won the fight..we dont take anything away from him at all.,,the kid is an incredible talent and everyone knows it…we did work on wrestling, A lot. not sure why u are telling us how to train? when u fight elite fighters and not back out of fights sometimes u just get beat
Loco chip is an awesome fighter and we would love to fight him at the right time down the road a bit or even in a stand up fight when they get sanctioned..I wish him luck in his title fight coming up..me promoting ricky is not to disrespect other fighters it is to get him fights and offers cuz u can ask any promoter they are few and far between which is why we fought neto in the first place..he was the one who stepped up to fight and we have so much respect for the kid and not just his BJJ, he is tough and a class guy
thanks Denny for calling me a heavy hitter. but i didn’t make the vip parking list
To all the heavy hitters out there, it’s always a pleasure working with you all. Personally, I don’t think the Neto v Georges was a bad one to watch. This is MMA; wrestling, BJJ, kick boxing, etc etc etc. I personally appreciate Neto’s level of BJJ and his style of fighting. I wouldn’t want to watch seven hours in a row of it. But I do appreciate the John Fitch’s of the MMA world. Here’s my two cents:
1. If you don’t like your fighter put on his back and owned for three rounds, work like Chip Pollard did after his battle with Jesus Martinez.
2. Ricardo and Carlos put on a good show and they each have learned a lot from this battle about what they have to work on.
3. For the fans out there, get used to it!; Because Carlos Neto looks like he’s gonna be around for a while. This was only his first outing.
4. Ricardo hits HARD!!! He only threw two punches from standing and each one put Neto down. I expect that Ricardo will go back to the gym and work on his takedown defense, so he can keep that fight standing where he’s obviously powerful.
Old School
The promotion must have lost tons and tons of money. Why would they get Rich Clementi of all people to headline? That man didn’t sell one ticket. Instead, they need to focus on the local guys. Calvin Kattar is the perfect person to have if you want to do an event at the Tsongus Arena.
When you have 600 people in an arena that holds over 6,000 it looks embarrassing. Yes, it was a long time ago, but this happened to Ring of Fire and to Eruption.
I agree with everything u said…again, i like carlos and hope he goes far and cant wait for his next fight and best believe ricardo will be working on what he has to do, we dont need franklin to tell us that he is always working his craft, believe me anyone who knows him will tell you it is not lack of work, but sometimes when u take tough fights u have to fight perfect and he made a few mistakes against a great fighter…if people enjoyed it that is great..he is 20 years old and fought a high level fighter, i dont care if he never fought, neto is a beast of a grappler and a tough kid and even looked ok standing technique wise..he is going to be a problem for 170 lb fighters for a few years if he chooses…i am interested in seeing who he fights next
this conversation is interesting…old school your right again…this is mma…and guess what if he won by controlling position there no reason to bang…what is a standup fight
btw the first ko by barrett was possibly the most brutal i have ever seen…hope casey is ok..he seemed better by the time he left…u would have to ask why they did that adam, i am not sure what two out of staters do for a show…reward the new england guys and bring in a UFC vet ie. bessette or orto or kattar vs clementi or rogers is my opinion but it is not my money lol
Old School REAL TALK^^^
@ MIKE NICEE COMENT ON THE when u fight elite fighters and not back out of fights LOL I NKOW THATS TORDS ME…DO YOUR HOME WORK I FOGHT THE ELLITE LOST BUT PUT A FIGHT AND THIS IS NOT EVEN ABOUT ME… RICARDO IS THE MANN HE WENT ALLL 3 ROUNDZ WITH A BLACK BELT AND DIDNT GET TAPPED . THE PROBLEM IS U GASSING UP YOUR FIGHTERS AND PUTING THEM IN CRAZY PREDICAMENTS NO DISRESPECT TO TPS ETHER…
a stand up fight is southeast asian kickboxing…not sanctioned yet….and again i am not saying that is somehow unfair or an excuse when someone gets taken down lol…doesnt mean it is exciting…we are 100% in the know of what we need to do..and what could happen when we took this fight, btw he didnt get subbed which is quite a feat in my mind for a stand up fighter…this IS mma and anything goes and there is no reason to bang when u can control the top and we never thought he would try to stand…does that mean we dont want our next opponent too? why do people take this as a knock on carlos?
I do what the team wants me to do franklin and I work my ass off outside of talking on forums to get any training ricardo and the team needs and any promotion, why does it bother you that ricardo is getting “gassed up”…define crazy predicaments? matt fighting rico? ricky fighting neto? thane fighting an ammy stud from bombsquad? pretty good fights if you ask me… u say no disrespect TPS but u are the first one to come on here about how bad ricardo got beat up when I simply said we want a fighter that will stand more…i NEVER said anything bad about Neto. I am simply stating ricky was never hurt, is still not hurt, bruised or anything aside a little cut on nose from the GNP of about 20 seconds…he is hurt that he lost the fight though and knows he lost and will come back stronger and u know ricky and prob agree with me
I NEVRER SAID RICARDO DID BAD OR NOKING HIM ALL I SAID WAS IF DIDENT WAN TO B TAKEN DOWN HE SOULD OF WORK ON HES WERESLING… STOP POTING WORDZ IN MY MOUTH AND IMM DON TALKING ON THIS SHIT THIS ANIT ABOUT ME OR U THESE FIGHTERS FOGHT THERE ASS OFF THATS ITT SOMETHING U NKOW NOTHING OF… IM DONE TALIKNG
i feel like you are yelling with the caps lock on
well that eliminates all none fighters from this forum then i guess and i have fought, i boxed for years. i am an old man now
and i am going to give my opinion on the fights..I am not sure what ur problem is with me…I said ricky was never in trouble although he lost the fight…10 secs of GNP at the end of the rd is not in trouble..whatever man, u r right it is about them…they are both great fighters, neto was better last night..congrats to him,,,yeah caps off is much better lol
LOUUUDDD NOISESSS!!!!!!
Yeah Franklin…seriously stop the capitalization thing. It’s very uncivilized and ugly for making a conversation with people on the forums. Lol. Victory Promotion could have done a lot to attract a lot of crowds. I was disappointed by the number of it and some of the fights were okay. I went to watch Ricardo Georges to make his first pro debut. He will bounce back. Cheyo Bokator prodigy!
I LIKE LAMP
I heard the place was dead. Going up against UFC on Fox and pacquiao must have hurt. But I definitely think some more popular locals fighters from the area would have helped. Someone mentioned Calvin kattar, also how bout Joe Cloutier…from Lowell and very popular. I am sure the next show will do much better.
Where was the crowd, too bad though, the fights were great! Some really good KO’s. I did’nt even hear about the fights until the day of the fights by mistake.
I was buying Motorhead tickets, and happen to see the ad on Tsongas bill board, its a shame cuz I go to Umass Lowell and there was no fliers or any posters around, kinda weird. Does anyone kno the total attendance?? and when id hte next one?
Poor job of marketing this event. BTW the announcer was pathetic, and the video was sharp, but shot through the cage???
I think the Victory Promotions guys need a local contributor who knows the New England MMA scene to provide some consulting on how it works around here. You cant put on a show with a main event that has 2 guys that arent from here, on the same night as a free major UFC fight and Manny Pac and expect to sell tix.
You need a good local fight to anchor the card.
The Surgeon Vs Matt Lee woulda been perfect
Lauzon vs Bessette
Rebello Vs Vaca
Sean McCorkle Vs Parker Porter (McCorkle is looking for fights)
…….Nader Vs Cramer rematch
jokers
matt lee called out marcus davis for his last fight at the show and said that would be the main event but i totally agree , haha that card their would be sick!
any of those fights i mean…and much better promotion of the show…u can never sit back and assume people are going to go…u have to promote the shit out of it
I LOVE LOUD NOISES
Funny
I’m surprised tps wants mike tps doing anything for them- let me know if you agree
yeah i agree u should ask TPS that question!
Mike TPS = hot air. loud mouth punk!
Punk? Ok. Please point out where. Sorry u feel that way. I don’t really care what u think though. Just a fan n talking on a forum. Whatever. Anonymous n Dan stp lol
Ha Ha Mike, it’s always good when the Anonymous keyboard warriors start acting up (and Franklin I dont mean you!).
Neto is a great grappler, as we all know, and he worked a smart fight against a dangerous opponent. I give both guys a ton of credit for taking such a tough pro debut fight!
I have a feeling both guys will be up there in the next rankings…
Don’t worry Victory will do another show the same way… Perhaps next time they will go head to ahead with another promotion (an AFO, CageTitans, CES, or GFL card). Perhaps they will bring in a UFC vet like Danny Abbadi, thinking that is the key to selling tickets.
A mostly amateur card of top-locals with 3 or 4 pro fights with decent matchups will outsell them 3 – 1, and victory will never be heard from again.
6 months later another new promotion will jump on the scene promising fireworks as they herald the return of Kalib Starnes to the MMA cage…
/endsarcasmfont
I have the utmost respect for this site. It’s awesome. I agree Kerrigan n I did say he fought a smart fight. He is a good guy too n I can’t wait to see him fight again. Just not with our guy lol. His BJJ is Obv phenomenal but we tried!
“Southeast Aisan Kickboxing”…………………. Only in MA!
Did not get to go to the show but bought it online. Poor turnout, yes, but fights were exciting and prodution seemed high compared with other local shows. What I don’t understand is why people like Dysqo Dave appear to get so upset. Victory tried, and will hopefully try again. I’m pretty sure the date was ooked before the UFC on FOX was announced, who cares about boxing, and with many of the local shows cancelling last minute, there was nothing wrong with the date. This area is prime for a big regional show. Currently Reality has that market, but many from eastern Ma, NH, ME, RI are not making that trip to CT.
Honestly, I think the “lets find fighters who sell a wagon full of tickets” model is not sustainable. Promotions need to recognize that this events cannot rely on quality fights alone to be successful. Any promoter will tell you that the guy who sells 200 tickets once will not do that multiple times a year. I mean really, the non MMA fans will only go see “Toby from the mail room” once or twice, unless he makes it to the next level. Otherwise the novelty wears off.
Look at the Lowell Spinners. I bet most couldn’t name a single member of the team, but the pack the place all season. Why, because it’s entertaining. Tickets are cheap (esp compared to Fenway), parking is not a headache, and you always walk out with some free stuff (i.e. bobbleheads, shirts, etc.)
I’d rather see one or two big “known” fights, then some guys who are just trying to take each others heads off. Two unkowns with losing records fighting each other usually makes for better entertainment than 1st vs. 2nd. Plus, everyone is always bitching about how much of a pain in the ass many of the “ranked guys” are to deal with. Put on a few shows focusing on fans being entertained and impressed with the value for their dollar. The base will increase as they will come back, then fighters will beg to get on the show (see Reality Fighting).
In closing, theres a reason Pride is still the only promotion to get 50,000 at a show. 1 or 2 real “scene changing” fights, 1 or 2 “freak show” fights, rest of card full of hungry fighters going for it, sick entrances, orchrestas, fireworks, etc.
I know that’s not realistic and cost prohibitive here in the US, but I think the first promoter to deliver on real “entertainment” outside of the fights (and not a local step team or metal band), will get the first timer to consider comning back. And THAT is where the real money is!
Hopefully, Victory gives it another shot and locals get behind it rather than bitch about it. I’d rather go to the Tsongas than the Lido any day of the week.
Thane Stimson vs Franklin Isabel?
Hats off to both fighters. i really don’t understand why people are fighting over these things at all. Ricky didn’t get sub he lost to a dec that should tell people something. Ricky has time to grow he’s only 20 years old so people need to relax and take notes.
lol we are down for thane vs franklin…and that is from the top of TPS and the whole team, not just me…anytime..we can show you the wrestling we been training? I am guessing (could be wrong) there is no chance of this happening.
pat magroyne, i hope and wish you were right but u cant have non ticket sellers…the guy who sells 200 is the guy who keeps promotions alive..non mma fans wont see ANYONE fight in this economy unless it is masterfully promoted and hits close to home..I will support Victory promotions when they come again cuz the place is awesome and they do run a professional show, now they just need the fans there to appreciate it
Ricardo did a great job avoiding submissions. Not getting submitted by Neto is very tough, even for an experienced grappler, nevermind a young standup fighter. The fact that Ricky is only 20 shows he is a natural talent, taking on someone who has competed in combat sports for many years.
I would disagree that it was a boring fight. Ricky’s stand up was great, but I liked how Neto (both on the top and bottom) used his grappling to neutralize Ricky’s power. Some people like to see grappling. I’ll admit seeing a takedown and ground and pound from the guard can be boring; but when I see active passing, solid control etc, I think it can be much more exciting than a stand up fight (think Jim Miller and Mark Bocek). Either way there were some very exciting fights that night. Phenomanol fight between Katie Merril and Kailene.
slim i never heard of neto in my life…not trying to be a dick but i dont know how i could miss someone that you say has all this combat experience…do you mean grappling experience or fights in the backyard…and what does tps stand for…who is your wrestling instructor mike…
neto is a 9 year black belt from brazilian top team and has won several major tourneys, i believe he was second in the pan ams and has trained with or coached a who’s who of mma..i am suprised u never heard of him and i too enjoy a good grappler go to work, what i was stating WAY earlier is we simply want someone who will stand with ricardo next fight which apparently is an AWFUL thing to say…of the 500? in the crowd if u werent really familiar with mma u did NOT like that fight…if u know the sport well u enjoy the technique heart and power both guys showed
I got SEVERAL texts from friends of mine who have been in the sport saying if it touched the maty ricky would be subbed in a matter of 30 seconds.
Team Pradal Serey which means free fighting in khmer
Pat McGroyne – you are forgetting a few MAJOR things with Reality Fighting. 90% of their fighters are CT base or just outside of CT where their fans would love to go to the casino, ie selling tickets AND you have the ticket sellers fighting on their fight cards (I sold 250 tickets and my coach sold 180 for me) AND Reality actually went under and stopped promoting October of last year because they just weren’t getting people in the seats in the Plymouth area anymore, then Mohegan called them and everythig changed. So staying with a great venue, also key.
and matt bessette was at the last victory show that was far more successful, coincidence…i think NOT!
true, but GFL did great things in promoting that event…they did UFC level hype for that, which i’m thankful for…before that show, the most tickets i sold was about 130, then I sold about 200 to a show over two hours from me, then sold 430 tickets in CT…I’ve always been lucky with my friends and fans coming out, but GFL really helped me along in that department…Thanks fellas
Iam game i wont maid fighting Stimson!!!! let me talk to my maneger to c what he saidz so the thing that happen between me and ruben dont happen agin!!
Hey Sir Bessette!, you are correct. What I was trying to get at was that ticket sellers get first timers and/or regulars thru the door. Professional entertainment/production/value for the dollar keeps them coming back. The last 2 Reality shows had 4000-6000 each. I really feel that this is because people who have gone, see that it is a big event and come back. Think about it, you (Matt) are one of the biggest draws around. You sold 430 tix, but you know that hardly any of the other guys touched that number. “Bigger” shows can’t completely rely on ticket sellers because it’s just too risky. I think that Reality’s strong attendance is because they’ve had ticket sellers, and those who bought from fighters, have come back on there own, plus the venue lends itself to a nice night/weekend out. “Real” local MMA “fans” (i.e. those on this site) will never be able to fully support a show at a large venue like the Tsongas. You need to reach those who will come 3-4 times a year not because of the specific fights, but because it’s the place to be.
I look at it like pro wrestling. I don’t follow it anymore and I have no idea who’s popular or not. But if a couple of friends say they’re going, them I’m in. Not because I like wrestling, but because I know I’ll be entertained.
Sounds good Franklin. Thane has 2 fights lined up. One in Cali in January so tell mgmt deb or march would be good. Be a good fight!
Whatever reality is doing victory should emulate cuz they both have very pro shows n awesome venues
I want to see Pat McGroyne vs Dick Hurtz (from Holden)on the next Victory card.
Actually, I’m already set to fight Phil McCrevice and the winner gets either Patrick Fitzgerald or Gerald Fitzpatrick in a “set the 3rd hook” winner takes ALL extravaganza!
Hopefully MA will pass this casino bill tomorrow as I’m gonna hit ALL the local nursing homes to cut a deal with the newest MA casino where any blue hairs who have a ticket from me will get $5 in free video poker or Bingo play. Talk about lucrative!! The only thing the elderly love more than free gambling is early bird specials with fishamajigs , black coffe, and tapioca at 4pm!
On the European circuit, French Champion Jock TooTight will be fighting the winner if the Irish Nationals between Patrick Fitzmichael and Michael Fitzpatrick.
