PLYMOUTH MEMORIAL HALL
From: Old School
Cage Titans takes a step back in time as they move forward toward becoming one of New England’s top MMA promotions!
Mixed Martial Arts returns to Plymouth Memorial Hall, as Mike Polvere and the Cage Titans crew prepare to invade America’s home town. Plymouth Memorial Hall has played host to many fight cards over the last several years, and it is widely considered to be the best place to have an MMA event. But as this recession continues to deepen, many promoters who are struggling to keep their MMA head above water have opted for smaller venues and other creative ways to survive. Others have retreated out of Massachusetts to neighboring states for financial reasons. A few are simply not open for business. But Cage Titans is alive and well. Mike and the crew have their collective sites set on Plymouth, MA and their collective calendars set for September 10.
Plymouth Memorial Hall is an historic building in Plymouth Center. She plays host to sporting events, concerts, trade shows, and a variety of other activities. From the street view out in front She does not appear large enough to accommodate an event of this type, but as you walk in She opens up to an awesome 2,000 seat arena. (That’s right! This is not a venue, it is an arena!) As soon as you enter this hallowed castle, it will become obvious why the Pilgrims chose Plymouth and not Revere!
There are several tiers of seating, beginning with the floor and cage side seats. The next level of seats begins about seven feet above the floor and tiers upward, so that even when the fans on the floor and in the front stand up everyone behind them can still see the MMAction! The highest tier, the balcony, is well above all else; as you look down you are seeing the action from above the top of the cage. So when you hear that there isn’t a bad seat in the house, there really isn’t. I have heard many promoters say that a particular venue is “just like Plymouth Memorial; not a bad seat in the house.” Well, this isn’t just like Plymouth Memorial; it’s the real deal!
You may want to think about arriving early for Cage Titans “United” on September 10. You’ll find wicked easy access on and off the highway, and the in-town parking allows for an easy walk to restaurants and stores. You could even consider adding a little culture to your MMA weekend and take the short walk over to visit Plymouth Rock!!! Really, you’ll feel like you took a brief step back in time.
It has been a while since an MMA event has been held in Plymouth Memorial. Last year, Reality Fighting came here in July and October, but a lack of communication and marketing resulted in disappointingly small crowds at those events. Thus, this arena may be unfamiliar to some of those who are newer to the NorthEast MMA scene. “There are a lot of younger fighters and new fans who have never been to an event in Plymouth Memorial Hall,” Mike Polvere told me recently. “They’ve heard of it and how good it is, but many of them have not experienced it yet.” That’s all about to change!
In these days of recession and declining MMA crowds some promoters are heading to smaller venues. But Cage Titans is heading the other way. “We (Cage Titans) are really going to make a statement (by coming to Plymouth Memorial Hall),” says Polvere. “We are here to stay!” Mike tells me that “Syndicate”, one of Cape Cod’s top rock bands, will be on hand to start the evening. Out door vendors will greet the crowd as they enter and good quality concessions are the order of the night once inside! We may even have an appearance from Shelly the Waitress! Wow, I feel like I died and went to Plymouth….
