After months and months of talking to various website designers, I’ve run into one of two issues with every designer:
1. They don’t know how to do evereything I want, the way I want it because I’m kind of a pain in the ass, and I’ve put so much time into the site over the years that I’m not willing to pay for something I’m not 100% happy with…and I’m not willing to pay for something that’s not BETTER than the current version of MassMMA.
or
2. They know how to do it, but say that it’s going to cost me slightly more than I paid for my fiance’s engagement ring, our wedding bands and our honeymoon combined…I love you guys and want to make the changes we ALL want, but…
So here’s the plan…I went out to Barnes and Noble (think I can get them to pay for the site in exchange for ad space?) and bought a book about building websites using the software J-Lau uses on his new site, and I’m gonna give it a shot. I had trouble setting up my myspace page, so this should be fun…but it’s one of those goofy, yellow “For Dummies” books, so it has to work..right?
If you’re bored and want to check in on my progress, or even be one of the first to sign up for a user name and leave me a comment, do it bitches…and I have to approve the user names, so it’ll be easy to track. Basically what I’m saying is that if you bust my nuts about how slow I am, how terrible at internets I am, or how you don’t like the site…I’ll hunt you down like the dude from “Taken” only I won’t kill you, but you’ll wish I did when you see what Lit and Santos have in mind.
The last thing I want to mention is that I’ll be working on the site a little bit everyday, and I make absolutely no promises as to when it’ll be done…keep in mind, I struggled with myspace. However, when it’s done, it’ll be exactly how I want it, so it’ll be worth the wait…and don’t worry, this shitty template isn’t what it’ll look like when it’s done. However, making it look sweet is the hardest part, so that’s going to be one of the last things to be finished.
Wish me luck bitches.

If you need a hand let me know. I just built the Full Force website for lit.

Nice potty mouth Bonnell…currently I haven’t set any of the filters that block stuff like that…mostly because I haven’t yet figured out if they block the whole post, or just edit the word, etc…I will be blocking stuff like that eventually though.
nice finally
Rick, when you approve usernames, do you verify their real name? For instance, when SuperAwesomeFighterDude signs online to call out Dan Lauzon in a ring of fire deathmatch, will the public be able to know who he is?
And what does it mean when this thing tells me (YOUR COMMENT IS AWAITING MODERATION)? Are you censoring me, Kim Jong Caldwell?html check
Nice Job. I have the same question as Dan.
Dan, here is how it works. When you sign up, I get an email titled “New User Registration” and inside that email, it tells me your username, email address and in the case that you filled in the first and last name field, I see that also.
In most cases, I just get a username and email address. It approves your user name immediately, however it will give you the “your comment is awaiting moderation” response until I approve your first comment….or couple comments in your case.
When I log into the back end of the site, one of the screens lists comments, and one of the links is “pending comments” with a number next to it. If I have pending comments, it’s because I have to approve every single first time post. That’s the way I have it set up…and as I mentioned before, all user names are linked to an email address.
So here’s how I monitor comments…if someone comes on here acting like an idiot, I delete their username. If they try to get a new one with the same email address, I simply don’t approve their first comment. If I approve them once, they are free to post whatever, whenever unless I delete them. If I happen to not log in for a few days, it does log all the comments…so just now, I went in and had 2 pending, and both were yours. Had you freaked out and tried to post 50 comments before I approved you, they’d all stay logged until I approved or deleted them.
So where the site has between 50-60 registered users, the only ones who are free to post comments right now are the ones who have actually tried to and I’ve gone in and approved. Instead of prompting me to approve every user name, it only makes me approve you when you post for the first time.
I can most definitely require first and last names if I want to, but that seems like a big pain in the ass for the people who aren’t idiots….so if your guy…superawesomefighterdude starts posting things I don’t like, I can email him with a warning, or just ban him…or ask him for his first and last name if I really want it.
And if I do ban him, and he tries to sign back up with the same email, I can deal with getting his name at that point.
It would be a super pain in the ass to follow up with every member for their contact info to prevent the small % of shit talkers. Why bother the 90% with BS to prevent the 10% of annyoing guys, when I can make it easy for everyone the first time, then ban the 10% when the act up.
Changing the settings is literally the click of 1 button, so if I want to change it in the future, I can with ease.
what up bitches
i’m a fan of almost everything you’re setting up, except:
i don’t really think it’s a pain in the ass to enter your first and last name when you first register. i’m as lazy as the next guy, but come on.
and like bonnell, i want to be able to call you a fucking cunt if the need presents itself. no filters.
i have arrived!
It’s not just entering the names that’s the hard part…it’s me taking the time to verify them. If someone enters Chris Murphy as the name…how do I verify that is actually the correct name? I can email the guy and say “is that really your name?” but it’d be easy to lie….and imagine if it was Charlie Murphy instead of Chris…when I first saw MMA fighter Charlie Murphy’s name, I asumed it was someone being a smart ass because it was right arund the time I saw the skit on Chapelle’s show where Rick James puts his muddy shoes on Charlie’s couch…damn Rick James…so anyway, I would have assumed it was someone being a smart ass.
Without requiring everyone to enter credit cards, there is no way to verify the name, and if someone wants to be a douche bag, they are likely the ones to lie about their name…
ryan parker, do you kiss our mothers with that mouth?
^^^Who is he Rick? Its getting Gay in here already
I know who it is…and in this forum it is just *one* person who called themselves ‘A MASSMMA Dedicated Reader’. We have to keep the confidentiality of that person secret, but at least with this forum, there is only one guy with that nickname, and we can track him. What I can tell you is that you are correct. He is pretty gay.
we fear what we don’t understand Bonnell. just let it happen.
No way!
Santos said that to me once and i’ll never forget that day……
Its gonna take more than porno magazines and beer to get me to just “let it happen”
LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW CHANGES – GREAT SITE BRO !
Lol. this place is awesome already
