MassMMA Rankings-July 2006
The major criteria we took into account was local activity, record and quality of opponents. By the way, HM stands for honorable mention which means they didn’t make the list but were either close to being on it or were left off for a specific reason which will be explained.
145
1.Dan Ferrer-Current WFL champ, always fights the best and always looks good.
2. Tatu Escobar-A win over previously undefeated Joe Cushman earns his spot.
3. Joe Cushman-Don’t really need to explain this one.
4. Jim Clifford-Former WFL champ who lost a very close decision to Ferrer. Would be higher on the list if he was more active.
5. Rafael Rebello-Looked great in a win over Paul Gorman.
HM: Paul Gorman-One of the most talented guy on the list. Fought to a draw with Ferrer, and lost a close fight to Rebello. One of my favorites to watch.
HM: Matt Martin-He’s been winning lately-3 in a row by submission.
155
1. Joe Lauzon
2. Bobby McMasters-Since losing by cut in his debut nobody has really been close to beating him.
3. Jack Wilmarth-He’s quietly gone 4-0.
4. Will Kerr-Great fighter, only guy to KO Cesario deSouza. Needs to be more active.
5. Matt Perry-4-1 with a recent win over Doug Brown.
HM: Cesario deSouza-WFL champ, but never beat a guy with a winning record.
HM: Sean Wilmot-not active enough for top 5, but could be there is he fought more.
170
1.Jay Jack-Only guy to submit Rich Moskowitz.
2. Nuri Shakir-Been on a tear lately. He was debated as #1 by some of us.
3. Alex Karalexis-Didn’t look good in loss to Von Flue, but rebounded against Lydell.
4. Rich Moskowitz-So close between 2,3,4 on this one.
5. Dan Lauzon-4-0 in only 4 months. The back flip off the cage also factored in.
HM: Nate LaMotte-can’t wait to see more from him.
HM:Mike Littlefield-He’s only fought once in the past year. I think he’s better than some on the list, but he hasn’t been as active as the rest of the guys.
HM: Matt Lee-I was overruled on this one. He’s been fighting at AFC and MFC and went 3-1, but hasn’t fought in MA in a very long time. We all debated and the way the list is going to work for now is basically limited to guys competing locally. We all agreed guys like Kenflo won’t be on the list because he doesn’t compete in MA anymore. Whether it’s UFC or MFC, if it’s not local, it’s not on the list. We’re not saying he can’t beat the top guys in MA, just saying he hasn’t.
185
1. Lance Everson-Recent win over Mandela Kponou solidified his #1 ranking.
2. John Howard-I don’t like how long he waits in between fights, but he’s gone 5-0 against tough guys.
3. Alexander Moreno-May be the best guy on the list.
4. Mandela Kponou-He’s slipped a little lately but may be the most dangerous guy on the list.
5. Craig Buckley- Activity has been lacking, but he’s an awesome fighter.
HM: Eric Russell-Looked great against Raposo
HM: Bellaton Frederic-Always looks good, but never tries to finish
HM:Mark Raposo-Started great then lost to Buckley and Erick Russell
205
1. Pat Schultz-Still undefeated. I realize he hasn’t fought the toughest guys on the planet, but neither has anyone else at 205.
2. Mike Lalibere-He’s been winning in a convincing manner.
3.Eric Brown-He’s been active and shows a ton of heart.
4. Ed Medeiros-recent losses were the reason for his slip. Can’t wait to see him back in the ring.
5. Jerry Spiegel-When he shows up ready to go, he can beat anyone.
HWT
1. Sherman Pendergarst-WFL champ
2. Josh Diekman-Has been beating the hell out of everyone he fights.
The reason we left the rest of the list off is because nobody else really had a winning record.
