Triumph Fighter presents HAVOC
Saturday Night, July 31 2010
The Hampshire Dome
50 Emerson Road
Milford, NH 03055
www.triumphfighter.com
Doors open at 6:30pm and the first fight will begin at 7:30pm.
Triumph Fighter has made every attempt to improve the quality of our shows. One such attempt is covering the cost of parking for all fans. Also, tickets are only $30 dollars for general admission. This is a very inexpensive night to see a legend like Shonie Carter take on New England’s biggest prospect, Rick Hawn not to mention the several other fights that will result in the stir up of NEMMA fighter rankings.
170lb Shonie Carter (48-20) vs Rick Hawn (7-0) Sityodtong/Pedro
Regardless of what happens, this fight will offer something extraordinary for the fans. All Sityodtong fighters come prepared to fight and I am certain that Mark DellaGrotte has put together an outstanding game plan to prepare Hawn for Mr. International’s unorthodox style. Shonie Carter is also taking this fight quite seriously. While watching Olson vs Hawn, at Triumph’s Inferno show, Shonie’s demeanor changed as he took lots of notes and asked many questions. Shonie has since brought in judokas and superstar fighters from all over to prepare for Hawn. Fights are more fun to watch when you have no idea who will win. In this fight, we don’t even know where the fight will take place.
135lb Tom Giove (9-4) SSSF vs Pedro Gonzales (5-3) Dragon Warrior
This fight could easily be fight of the night or submission of the night. Pedro has a modest record of 5-3 but those who know him or have watched him fight know that he is a force in the 135lb division. Pedro made a big splash going 5 rounds with GFL champion and wrestling phenom Matt Smith. While Matt left with the belt, Pedro left with the admiration of fighters and a new wave of fans. Giove on the other hand is no hidden secret. Tom began fighting and winning 5 years ago. He has defeated several up-and-comers as well as seasoned veterans. All but one of Tom’s wins has come by submission including a recent victory over Pedro’s Brother and teammate, Christian Rivera.
165lb John Ortolani (3-1) Gracie Barra NH vs Anthony Christodoulou (1-0) Comprido BJJ
Anyone who’s had the opportunity to see Ortolani fight has been converted to a fan. He’s strong, explosive and just a gifted athlete. Ortolani splashed into professional MMA taking on currently #3 ranked welterweight, Tom Moreau. Christodoulou is relatively new to MMA but not to competition. He is a very successful grappler under the legendary coach and competitor Rodrigo “Comprido” Medeiros. Unfortunate for Christodoulou, his opponent for King of the Cage pulled out. Fortunate for us, we will get to see what he can do!
155lb Nick Newell (3-0) Fighting Arts Academy vs Aniss Alhajjajy (4-1) BTT Boston
Nick and Aniss are two of the most exciting fighters in the region. Nick’s smooth transitions and deceptive strength were too much for his previous three opponents. During Nick’s last outing, he made quick work of a much bigger and stronger Steve Butler. Nick has a great following for a reason! Aniss is nonstop and in your face from start to finish. He has won the majority of his fights by submission and has controlled most aspects of his fights. His one loss was by razor thin decision to John Ortolani. That was a fight that half the crowd believed Aniss had won. Look for great leg kicks from Aniss and takedown attempts by fighters before the fans are treated to a chess match on the ground.
185lb Nate Woodger (3-0) Team Link vs Perry Filkins (0-0) Lion’s Den CT
On paper this fight does not make a lot of sense but those who know Perry are aware of how great this fight will be. Perry trains out of Lion’s Den CT but all of his amateur fights were in Michigan. He boasts a very impressive amateur record from a state where there was no professional MMA. As a result, the creams of the crop in Michigan are the amateurs. Nate is a very good fighter from an outstanding camp. He has been less active, only fighting once in 2009, but there is no question Marco and Gabriel have prepared him to re-enter the cage.
135lb Joe Faucher (2-1) Gracie Barra NH vs Christian Rivera (4-7) Dragon Warrior
Rivera is looking to get back to his winning ways at his natural weight class. He is coming off a couple of tough losses but they were to Dan Bonnell and Tom Giove. Christian will fight anyone! He comes into this fight with intensity and the experience advantage. Faucher lacks the experience of fighting in the cage but is pushed regularly by top fighters and teammates John Ortolani and Dennis Olson. This fight promises to be exciting as both competitors are strong and explosive.
Additional Fights
Tony Truglia (0-0) Independent VS Shelby Young (0-2) Gracie Barra NH
Josh Bourque (2-2) Cage Strikers VS Andrew Reeves (0-1) Gracie Barra NH
Jake Deignan (1-1) Gracie Barra NH VS Colton Blanchette (0-0) Cage Strikers
Triumph Fighter is looking to add one or two amateur fights. Please direct inquiries to John Fain at 603-204-3169 or at john@triumphfighter.com
Tickets can be purchased at www.triumphfighter.com or from the fighters.

That’s a nice card.
Gonzalez vs, Giove will be fun. Two really good fighters. I’m taking Gonzalez due to his size. He is a big 135er and a really good fighter. If Giove wins though, it will be no surprise, he is a veteran and tough as hell.
Newell is a beast and is slick on the ground so Aniss better be on his game. I’m picking Newell by submission.
I’ve seen Perry Filkins fight and he is an animal. But Woodger is tough as hell and a really solid grappler, who hits hard. Both come from tough camps and I think whoever is in better shape wins this one. I can’t pick this fight but I know it will be a slug fest. This fight won’t go to decision and will be fight of the night.
Best of luck to all fighters.
Triumph gets better and better.
Looks like a good card, got to go with Giove in this fight, he is tough as nails and his guilatine choke is tight, i seen him wreck alot of dudes with that one hold. Go Rick Hawn , that should be a cool fight.
Great card, for a great price!!! And Free Parking….Awesome!!
I’m going with Pedro over Tom….Pedro is too tall, and he’s strong for his size. If a wrestler like Matt Smith couldn’t handle him, I’m not sure Giove can. As we all know, a fight is a fight, and Giove is a good veteran…
A lso, the Newell vs AA fight could be awesome!! I’m going with Newell though, beast!!
i will try to make this card. I love anyone from new england doing big things like hawn. but im a long time shonie fan
Pedro all the way! No way he’s gonna get guillotined by Tom, his escapes are far too good. I’d bet money I don’t have on that alone. Pedro by submission or knock out in round two if not round one. All that aside.. I’m totally looking forward to Gonzales/Smith 2, so Pedro can snatch that belt up for himself! Good Luck Saturday to everyone!
I don’t get out to many other shows but this one I won’t miss.. Very impressed with the card, some great fights I’m looking forward to watch. I too think Pedro wins this one, he is one of the bigger 35′s out there right now and has really been on a tear lately,
tom trains with josh grispi 5 times a week…enough said.
I’m gonna go with Gonzalez here, He gave Matt Smith Hell and I can attest Matt sucks to roll with. I’ve found myself on the losing battle of that one many times. Their rematch will be pretty awesome and a win here for Pedro gives him some serious credability.
Good Luck to Rick Hawn! I don’t think its a surprise if he finishes Shonie Carter but I’m excited to see it.
I don’t care who Ortolani fights he’s always exciting no matter who he’s in with.
Fain and Fuller have done a great job putting on some top notch fights lately. Can’t wait to see what their next show will look like.
Oh and watch Josh Bourque and tell me that kid isn’t friggen fun to watch! Comming off a dec loss to a 3-0 155er he returns to his natural 135lb class.
Once or twice a year, New England is blessed with a new talent that is destined to be in the UFC. This is the year of Rick Hawn. New England has never had a more dominant local fighter! July 31st at the Hampshire Dome will most likely be our last chance to see him fight locally… and it is against “Mr. International” Shonie Carter.
Tickets start at $30. Visit http://www.triumphfighter.com
Gonzales/Giove will be great. When we see submissions in average or lower level fights, they can be chalked up to “being caught” or inexperience. If or when we see a submission in this fight, it will be a resutl of great coaching and a perfectly executed game plan because neither guy makes mistakes.
Newell by nickotine. Giove by guillotine. Ortolani by TKO. Hawn by uchi mata through the cage floor. Woodger by GNP TKO. Faucher sub. – Kinda pissed I can’t go. Best of luck to all and bring the pain!
Good evening, my name is Tim O’Connor and I Co-Own The Combat Sports Agency here in Boston, Massachusetts with my business partner Brian Gillespie. Tonight a very unfortunate and disrespectful act took place at the weigh-in’s for Triumph Fighter MMA’s second show entitled “Havoc”. Brian and I are very excited to have been the chosen representation company for Fighting Arts Academy (Springfield, MA) & Ultimate MMA (North Haven, CT) Lightweight “Notorious” Nick Newell for the past year and we’ve enjoyed watching him grow as an athlete and a person over these many months. When first we met Nick he had just won his professional MMA debut and he was frustrated with his career as it seemed finding opponents for him to test his skills against was becoming increasingly difficult; the reason for this, of course, was because A) Nick was/is a highly gifted athlete and B) Nick was born without a fully developed left arm. Too often Nick had heard the frustrating mantra of “guys don’t want to lose to a guy with one arm and they don’t want to beat a guy with only one arm”. So through absolutely no fault of his own, Nick was “damned if he did and damned if he didn’t”. Still, because of the type of person Nick is he agreed to work with us and through a lot of hard work and willing opponents Nick persevered and delivered an unblemished (3-0) record heading into tonight’s Triumph Fighter MMA weigh-in’s.
Many, many weeks ago Triumph Fighter MMA Promoter John Fain set out to find Nick Newell an opponent for his “Havoc” card and after many names came and went one name was actually finalized and “it” would provide Nick with his stiffest MMA challenge yet, NortheastMMA.net’s 10th-ranked Lightweight and Brazilian Top Team prospect Aniss Alhajjajy (4-1). Nick was excited to fight such a good opponent as he truly wanted to know where his skills stood against those of someone in New England’s Top 10. For Nick it was a simple “Yes, I want to fight” and we agreed to the bout and set about training for the biggest fight in Nick’s short career.
Tonight Nick sits in a New Hampshire hotel room wondering, “Where in the world is Aniss Alhajjajy?”. As Nick’s representative I too sit in front of my keyboard wondering “Where the hell is Aniss Alhajjajy?”. Tonight Aniss Alhajjajy of Brazilian Top Team-Boston, represented by Joao Amaral, chose not to attend the Triumph Fighter MMA weigh-in’s; he chose not to answer his cell phone; and thus far he, his BTT-Boston teammates, and their representative Joao Amaral have decided not to contact John Fain, the New Hampshire State Boxing Commission, myself, Nick, or anyone associated with the event whatsoever. I sit here shocked and amazed as I’ve known Aniss and have been a fan of Aniss’s since I first saw him compete at the USFL event in Springfield, Massachusetts against Bombsquad’er Chris Ramos. I saw Aniss’s Muay Thai on display at World Championship Fighting, and a few weeks ago I saw him in a true battle with John Ortolani at the Triumph Fighter MMA show. The Aniss Alhajjajy of BTT-Boston I know is not the quitting, cowardly type on display tonight…in all seriousness I do hope nothing has happened to Aniss from a physical or mental standpoint.
Tonight I appeal to the entire NortheastMMA.net readership in helping myself, Nick, Triumph Fighter MMA, and the New Hampshire State Boxing Commission track down and receive word from Aniss Alhajjajy of Brazilian Top Team-Boston, represented by Joao Amaral. Gentlemen, all I ask for is an explanation and if an apology is in order a written apology to Nick Newell. Pulling out of a fight is never easy and never sits well with the Promoter, Matchmaker, or opponent, but often times “things happen” in our industry and you do your best to make things right. It was not long ago that I had to do this with WCF Promoter Joe Cavallaro and WCF Matchmaker Rick Caldwell a mere 48-hours prior to their event; it’s maddening, frustrating, and disappointing, but you respect the profession and the people within it to make the phone call or meeting. “No-showing” a weigh in is cowardly and highly unprofessional. It’s hard enough to find opponents willing to give Nick the opportunity he so clearly has earned and desires, which is merely to compete and test himself; even after appearing on MMAJunkie.com and in “Tapout Magazine” this region’s Lightweight’s tend to find better things to do than compete against Nick. If anyone has any information regarding Aniss Alhajjajy of BTT-Boston, represented by Joao Amaral, and his “no-show” tonight or can pass along a message to him to contact John Fain and/or the New Hampshire State Boxing Commission it would be greatly appreciated if you could help us out. Until Aniss Alhajjajy of BTT-Boston and Joao Amaral are in contact with anyone we’ll refrain from sending a letter to the New Hampshire State Boxing Commission asking for an immediate suspension of Aniss Alhajjajy based on his, thus far, unbecoming and unprofessional behavior.
We at The Combat Sports Agency would like to thank Jeremy Libiskewski of Fighting Arts Academy and all of the FAA Team for preparing Nick for this bout; John Fain and Triumph Fighter MMA for seeking out opportunities for Nick; and all of Nick’s friends and family who so readily purchased tickets to support Nick and his dream of competing unfettered as a professional mixed martial artist. Most of all I want to thank Nick Newell as he learns yet another incredibly hard lesson, but a lesson which will make him an even better MMA athlete. Thank you and good night.
Wow, that is terrible!! I hope that Aniss wasn’t in an accident or anything?? That is soooooo shitty and unprofessional if it is just a no call, no show, and he (they-ATT) should def be suspended, or black-listed. Keep your head up Nick, you’re a great fighter!!!
That sucks, it has happened to me so i know what Nick is feeling, FRUSTATION, ANGER. Even if something medical or mental took place there should be a phone call.Hang in there Nick.
Rumor Control

I love these quick results!!! Thanks Mark Daniels!!! Any word on Aniss or his team yet???
I want to thank the fans for coming out to the show last night.
I especially want to thank the fighters and teams that make this all possible. Each of our shows have run smoother than the last and we have increased our fan base, which is a testament to the hard work and outstanding performances of the fighters that choose to fight for us.
A special thanks to Sityodtong, Team Link, SSSF, Dragon Warrior, Lion’s Den CT, Cage Strikers and GBNH. Also thanks to Shonie Carter for pushing Rick Hawn and forcing him to push back.
I think we were lucky enough last night to see a very tallented local fighter prove his ability to succeed in the “big show”.
Also Fighting Arts Academy!
Seemed like a small crowd does anyone know how many people attended? No production=boring!
Small crowd yes, but It was our biggest crowd yet so I am pleased. Production: it will improve but these things have to come in steps. If we try to do too much too fast, it will end up being a big cluster. Instead, I am proud of the improvements we have made in a very short time.
Boring: It depends on what you want. We witnessed some very high level fighters last night. We tried to and will continue to treat local fans to big names like Shonie Carter. If you’re a fan of good fights, I find it hard to call that boring.
Next, Dany Lauzon and probably another big name or two in addition to some of the best local fighters.
Congrats to Rick Hawn , we will get them next time Giove.
How anyone could call that card boring is beyond me. It’s like watching an awesome Superbowl game and saying it was boring because there was no halftime show.
just wanted to say that pedro g is a stand up dude and an excellent fighter and I look forward to watching him progress in this sport. That fight, although fairly short, was exciting as hell from both Pedro and Tom and hopefuly we’ll get to see them get at it again.
As for Tom, congrats on having a lion sized heart. You are a tick below 40, only able to train like 6 hours a week and you you still bring it against the best in the area. I am supremely proud to be your brother and teammate.
Sammy never did I say the fights were boring they were sick!.The production less then a J.H. dance. As for the rest well the beer was cold!
Yo Sammy who said the fights were boring? Can U read?
P R O D U C T I O N !
U TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Ronny’s looking 4 u on South Beach!
This was a great show. Great fights, well run. Congratulations to Perry “Filthy” Filkins and Team Savage/Lions Den on a big win. Watch for more to come from the Filthy one.
Cracker, so sorry to misinterpret your post. Please forgive me, as it will never happen again. Being called a “Tool” by a nameless keyboard warrior is far to hurtful. From now on I will read things more thoroughly before I comment. Thank you for teaching me my lesson.
Sincerely,
Sammy the tool
I thought overall it was a great show, I just wish I could have been a part of it. I was ready for war, unfortunately my “opponent” Aniss Alhajjajy never showed up for weigh-ins. I worked my ass off all summer in the gym. I drove 3 hours a day between work, home and the gym. On my days off I traveled and stayed with my coach in Massachusetts to train. I’ve trained for a fight were the guy pulled out two days before and a fight where the guy pulled out a week before. Injuries are a part of the game and I never would judge anybody for pulling out of a fight for being injured, but to just not show up to weigh ins was a huge slap in the face. Then Aniss, his manager and his team ignored all phone calls just goes to show how unprofessional they are and how much disrespect they have for me and the sport as a whole. Unfortunately, I work a full time job that has me working weekends so I wasted a bunch of vacation time too. Thank you to everyone who helped me train and triumph for putting me on the card. It’s unfortunate I never got to showcase my skills.
Still no reason on why Aniss and his team didn’t show??? Hope they never fight in New England again…like Nick said, people take time off from work, they pay for medicals, sell tickets to friends and family….to not even call, (NO MATTER WHAT THE REASON!!!) is cowardly!!!!
bummer nick, i was excited to watch you tear this kid apart
Timothy OConnor or Nick Newell: still no word from BTT, Joao Amaral, or Aniss? What a disgrace. (Although I have much respect for BTT’s legacy, there is NO EXCUSE for their behavior referenced in the above posts.)
Please update when you hear something.
I contacted BTT’s administrative offices (through email), and received this quick reply (unsigned):
“Sorry to hear that. Prof. João Amaral is in Brazil teaching a BJJ Camp ( you can find his number on the flyer below ) he should be back this coming friday. We tried to get in touch with Annis too but he had an family emergency and flew back home ( Morocco ).”
There was no number or flyer attached.
Correction: Upon viewing the email again, a flyer WAS attached; it was invisible to me on my phone.
Thanks to BTT again for their quick response to my email.
I have had nothing but great dealings with Joao which is why I’m particularly surprised by what happened. I know he has been extremely busy opening a BTT school in California and teaching in Brazil. I do hope the family emergency in Morocco turns out well for Aniss.
So he had enough time to book a flight, go to the airport and fly half way across the world and he couldn’t make a two minute phone call to cancel the fight so I could have found a new opponent and not wasted so much time and effort getting ready to fight somebody who is not even training? A family emergency is a reason to cancel a fight but as a PROFESSIONAL FIGHTER its your responsibility to call out. Doctors just decide to not show up for their appointments, they call and cancel them. His actions are inexcusable and if I were a coach I would never let my fighters take a fight with anyone from his team
I agree with Nick. It takes almost no time to make that call. Shit, even if you couldn’t find the number etc and had no time to waste, call someone from the team to make the call to the promoter! Who cares how busy Joao is….he’s a professional coach, who’s fighter had a commitment, it’s ok because he’s trying to make more $$$$ for himself…..NO!
I don’t think it’s OK by any means but if you knew me you would know that I worry about and care about most people and what ever situation they are in. Its like a curse!
I agree with everything that has been said on here. It is a situation where everyone lost and it could have been avoided.
He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and pay for a box of tissues!
Did Colton Blanchette fight ? and how did he do ?
Is NEMMA going to post a review of this show?
Nick, I included a link to this page when I wrote my email inquiry to BTT. I also included the text of your comment. I was hoping that it would lead to someone contacting you, or at the very least posting here.
I missed the event, and I’m hoping I can get a review from someone who was there.
I was at the fights on Sat, and it was a great event. Too bad about the Newell/Aniss fight. I saw Aniss fight against Ortoloni at the last Triumph show and I was impressed with his perferomance. From the sounds of it, Nick would have brought the thunder too.
FIght of the night in my opinion was the Filkins vs. Woodger bout. Both guys came out aggressive, and Woodger almost ended the fight in the 1st with a nice kimura, but FIlkins defended it well and the round ended. I gave the 1st rnd to Woodger. Filkins came out in the 2nd and had a fire in his eyes. He landed some hard shots on the feet and then brought some serious GNP from the mount. FIlkins made it rain with a heavy right elbow to the left cheek of Woodger that cut him open nice, and thats when the ref stepped in. That’s one thing I noticed about this evernt: almost every fight was bloody. Very impressive performance from Filkins in his pro debut.
Watching Rick Hawn smartly pick apart Shonie Carter was a thing of beauty. Hawn had a game plan, and executed it to perfection. If Hawn is not on a major promotion’s card within the next 6 months I would be very surprised.
Triumph definitely improved over their prior show, and I look forward to the next. The only negative was that there was only 7 fights on the card after the Aniss/Newell fight being canceled, and the Blanchette fight never happened for some reason – I think it had to do with medicals or something. Great card all in all.
