Cage Titans Fighting Championship Announces Its First Show and Main Event:

Epic – Warriors of Mixed Martial Arts
On Friday, July 30th Cage Titans Fighting Championship will be making its debut with its premiere show entitled ‘Epic’ at Lombardo’s in Randolph, MA. This promotion plans on providing the best conditions and atmosphere for fighters and fans alike and vows to be a “fighters first” company. For its debut event, Cage Titans FC is featuring some of New England’s most promising talent and both amateur and professional bouts.

Headlining the card is a clash between Chuck “Cold Steel” O’Neil (Lauzon MMA) and Anthony Kaponis (American Fight Team) for the 170lb. Welterweight Championship. The veteran O’Neil is a well-rounded fighter with a strong jiu-jitsu background. He is currently ranked in the top 10 in New England with half of his wins coming from submission, although his last two were via TKO. Kaponis is a former state champion wrestler that is relatively new to MMA. He has quickly made his mark though, fighting and impressively winning the four times he’s stepped into the cage since making his debut three months ago. Expect a highly entertaining match-up between two combatants who always look to finish their fights and never let their fate be decided by the judges.

The ‘Epic’ battle for the title takes place Friday, July 30th at Lombardo’s in Randolph and is one you won’t want to miss! Tickets are $35, $50 and $75 and now available online. For more information visit

Hardcore fans will appreciate this one, I can also confirm Matt Perry will be making his much anticipated return against highly regarded Barrington Douse… I will also be posted fights exclusively on this thread as we are ready to announce them

  2. RICombatClub on June 27th, 2010 11:28 AM

    Looking forward to this show.

  3. Dysqo Dave on June 28th, 2010 11:45 AM

Well I thought John was working with the AFO…

Since this is a ‘new’ promotion, I guess this is a good as any spot to inquire on other promotions… Is Lit & Full Force done with promoting? Havent heard anything from them since Feb. And how about XCFL? (It seems like they had some poor attendance at their last show).

  4. JohnSepulveda on June 28th, 2010 12:10 PM

Dave, I did at one time, work for the AFO, I have since moved on to my own promotion, it is myslef and Michael Polvere, We hope to find a small piece of the market and offer up some outstanding MMA. I had a very positive time while working with the AFO and I wish continued success to Pete Dilorenzo and the rest of the crew.

  5. JohnSepulveda on June 28th, 2010 3:16 PM

Also confirmed…. SSSF competitor Jeff Moore vs. Team Rockstar’s Ruben “Ruckus” Rey

  6. Reep on June 28th, 2010 4:12 PM

@ JohnSepulveda, Are you planning on just using local talent as well?

  7. Dominic Kane on June 28th, 2010 4:57 PM

    Reep,
Bro, Why do you always have your nose in everything? that question seems like if you dont get the answer you want you are about to pounce on them with all sorts of negative bullshit.

  8. Dalton on June 28th, 2010 5:49 PM

    Agreed, Reep’s a Creep!

  9. Reep on June 29th, 2010 5:16 AM

My nose in everything??? It’s an honest question….I manage fighters, and I wanted to see if it’s worth my while to try to get a match-up. Alot of the new orgs won’t pay for hotel rooms, and we’re from western Mass. Also, since when do I “pounce with all sorts of negative bullshit’???

  10. Dominic Kane on June 29th, 2010 7:40 AM

Your full of piss and vinegar Reek. You never have anything good to say about a promotion. You dont even favor a promotion over another, you just complain about them all. Your a bitch, Sit behind your computer and bitch about everybody all day. you probably work some queer job in a cubical all day. Leave work, kick your dog and go Trane UFC in your garage. Hang around afterwards drinking your Miller High Life and stare at an old Arianne Celleste Poster.

  11. MMA insider on June 29th, 2010 8:08 AM

I would like to say that I am intruiged as to this new promotion getting involved with the local scene. The question is, is it about the promotion or the fighters? It seems there was a great amount of hype involved with this promotion but as all find out, big dreams can sometimes fade into reality. Big names, big paydays, big show…etc. Seems as though the actuality of the situation is, you get what ya can out of the gate. John does a good job of moving the pieces around, making them fit it seems. As all promoters want the big show, you cant have that out of the gate. Im going to also kinda leave it the fact of wishing Cage Titans a bunch of luck. Its a hard market out there and as we have all seen lately, no matter how much planning and scheming you do, its up to the fans to show up, as well as the fighters to sell tickets. With that being said, I see that Reep has been designated as the “beat on’ for this thread. I took my ass whoopin on a previous thread, but as opposed to joining in, because I dont know Reep personally so I have no negative comments…I will leave you all to your buisness…haha

  12. JohnSepulveda on June 29th, 2010 9:44 AM

Fair question Reep…. I do plan on using some outside talent… I have 2 fighters on the show booked from your neck of the woods, my comments would actually indicate that earlier, as far as what I am willing to offer, that is completely situational and it is a discussion for us to have off of the message boards. With that said I have floated the idea of bringing in fighters from Ohio, Jersey, Connecticut and much further away and I am not opposed to it, but i also recognize that there is a ton of talent here locally that deserve spotilight as well, its more an issue of economics and value it adds to the show, if it makes sense i will do it…. and insider, expect me to quote your words in future conversation…. anyway…. I have 2 more fights to announce tomorrow…stay tuned

  13. MMA insider on June 29th, 2010 10:18 AM

Im hoping to have my words quoted Johnny, in a good sense I guess(hope).I have a feeling which ones will be quoted, haha, but as you know man…Ive wished ya luck from the inception of the idea…oh, and dont forget some of those Cali kids we can bring in, as well as North Carolina. Bringing in the out of state talent to compete with our guys here is a great way to see how everyone matches up with talent from other walks of life.We have alot of top talent guys here that deserve to showcase their talents against other top contenders. Cage Titans is going to be the vehicle for this? Lets see what happens man. Either way I am intruiged and optomistic!

  14. JohnSepulveda on June 29th, 2010 11:20 AM

Will Cage Titans be the vehicle? probably not to the degree that you would like… You have to remove the fanboy in you and think about several different aspects in order to be successful… Of course the Mass fighters deserve to fight great competition, but it has to be in an organization that is financially stable enough to deliver it and have the proper platform to benefit from it… time will tell, I make no promises other than the fact that we will work as hard as we can to put the best product possible out there, treat fighters fairly and give fans a great experience, all while focusing on growth, outside of that you can’t really speculate as to the vehicle we will be.

  15. Dwayne Pipe on June 29th, 2010 11:57 AM

Comical that you guys work together to build Cage Titans FC, you’ve stated in separate articles that you have had several phone convo’s about this and then get on here blowing each other about how great the promotion is going to be. It rings of a similar promotion that came in guns blazing and left broke and killed some fighters pockets on the way out……xcfl

  16. CageTitansFC on June 29th, 2010 2:38 PM

    Dwayne,

My name is Michael Polvere and I am the promoter for Cage Titans FC, a joint venture between me and match maker John Sepulveda. I do understand your view based on previous threads but please let me be clear, MMA Insider has no involvement, besides being a friend of Johns, in the “building” of Cage Titans. (To be honest I’ve never spoke or even met him)

With that being said, I will never come on here and say that this is the best card New England has ever seen, we pay the most money, have the hottest ring girls or that we are going to have the biggest display of fireworks for entrances (well maybe that!)…The hope is to put on this first show with minimal hiccups and let the product speak for itself. We have no intentions of being the XCFL, AFO, WCF or any other promotion for that matter, we are looking to build a brand and name on our own through our actions.

In addition, please let’s not let this thread get into a bitch fest or one where all we discuss is what COULD be for Titans…Let’s use it to talk about the fighters fighting that night and if you want to debate, discuss who you feel will win and why.

Anyway, hope you can make it out on the 30th to Lombardo’s…If you do please make sure you say, “HI”!

  17. CageTitansFC on June 29th, 2010 2:40 PM

So, out of the first 3 pro fights we already announced…

Chuck O’Neil vs Anthony Kaponis (Title)
    Ruben Rey vs Jeff Moore
    Matt Perry vs Barrington Douse

    WHO YOU GOT!

  18. MMA insider on June 29th, 2010 2:56 PM

Dwayne, I am interested to see where you saw that I helped build Cage Titans? Curious, because if that is the case, then I am due some prompt credit as well. I would also like to have the articles brought to my attention atleast, because I cant once ever recall stating that I was part of Cage Titans? Yes, there have been many convos between John and I over the past year I would say. Even back to when I was going to do some work with him at AFO, with Pete as well. I have a few conversations with Pete now and then and am always throwing ideas around. Does this constitute the fact I help build AFO as well? Now I understand I use some big words and try to bring up valid points in my opinion as to the sate of things now and then, but I will say this time you have given me too much credit as to my abilities…thank you though!
And in regard to the convos I have had with John in regards to this event, must not have been too good because of all the guys we discussed and brought up…not one of them made it on to the final card I believe…including the 2 main events we discussed.Stating that people have discussions or one person lends info to another for their help or benefit dosnt mean that you are partners in a venture. It simply means that you wish to see a friend succeed, and you want fighters to have a great opportunity to showcase their talents!
And I agree with you whole heartedly about the XCFL thing, ya cant come in all guns blazing, claiming to be the best and outcast already succesful, established promotions. You have to build from the ground up. I never mentioned once how “great” this promotion will be…only that I wish them the best of luck in trying to accomplish what alot of people seem to think is an easy task!

  19. Reep on June 29th, 2010 3:58 PM

    Thanks for the answer John.

@Dominic Kane……I never have anything good to say???please quote me when and where I complain and bitch about all the promotions?? Are you serious, or just trying to start shit?? and about me sitting around in a cubicle all day…..FYI, I actually work a “queer” factory job, come home, hike my dogs, not kick them. I do train, however it’s not in my garage, and I hate beer….if i drink I like me some girly drinks, like Twisted Teas, and vodka mixers…but although i don’t have a poster, i do <3 Arianne!!!

  20. JohnSepulveda on June 29th, 2010 4:18 PM

Dwayne, Troy doesn’t work with me at all, I am not sure where you got your facts but they are way off… and I don’t think we are “blowing” each other, troys first comment on here was stating that most new promotions get a reality check… I know you like to stir shit, your the same guy who said Damien Trites never fought anybody good, slapping John Benoit and 4 or 5 other guys directly in the face, so I take your comment with a grain of salt. Either way, before any judgement is passed come to the show, let me know what you think.

  21. Dwayne Pipe on June 30th, 2010 8:21 AM

John, You need to get your facts straight I never said anything about Damien Trites, i dont even know who he is. I have only been posting here for about 4 weeks and in that four weeks i have never said anything like what you are claiming. Please cut and paste what you are claiming what i said and or let us all know where you saw this garbage.
You’re real professional John. You dont take Criticism well at all and when someone asks you a question you make “Felonious” remarks about them that arent even true to try and discredit their statement. You are a fool my friend. I will be waiting for your apology here when you cant back up what your saying with proof.
Good way to start off promoting fights by accusing your fans of shit they never did.

  22. JohnSepulveda on June 30th, 2010 8:43 AM

Dwayne, if I am wrong I do appologize, I will have to go through and search all the threads to get the exact quote, however, 3 people told me that you made those comments and several others and that you always seem to try getting people going for entertainment., and i appologize for not being diligent before emotionally reacting… I just wouldnt expect a “fan” to make equally outrageous claims and spout misinformation without having their facts strait either… email me your name to john@cagetitansfc.com and I will put two tickets on will call for you and we can just call this water under the bridge

  23. Donny Mustapha XCFL on June 30th, 2010 11:11 AM

Okay, I never post on this site. When I do read some of the comments I have to feel that 80% of the people who post constantly have to still live in there parents basement. I they had half as much going on as they say, they would be busy making money not trying to tell everyone how to spend theirs. Before I go any further with this post. MMA Insider was correct in saying the original group with the XCFL came on a bit ” heavy” ( no pun intended). If I had sole control of the company the petty, obnoxious, stabs at our competition would never fly with me. I have been a competitor and coach for years and believe that you should stand out from the pack because of your skill not your “big fat mouth”. (Once Again No Pun Intended). Anyone that felt the rath of this I apologize ( Dan Bonnell and the GFL) Alright, Alright, you got me I was wrong and Im sorry. I respect you Dan. I do see that the GFL is trying to do good things in New England and you have earned personal respect in the community. ( Don’t mistake the apology Dan as a sign we are on our ass. Quite the contrary we have our biggest show yet planned in Sept.)
Back to MMA Insider.. The comments that you have posted in the past few weeks reflect the opinion of somebody who has never taken on a project like putting on a show. Does PEE WEE HERMAN log on and tell Justin Torrey how to fight. ABSOLUTELY NOT. Why, because who the hell is he to comment about something he knows nothing about. I put your level of knowledge in Combat Sports on the same level as PEE WEES fighting ability. Whether or not a promotion is successful or not should nave no bearing and does not warrant your opinion. You could not even begin to fathom what a production cost. CFX, WCF, CAGE TITANS,GFL,AFO,COMBAT ZONE,TRIUMPH, FULL FORCE, PREMIERE FC and the XCFL risk everything they have every time they put on a show. Have you ever risked loosing $50,000. in a night selling t – shirts? Well, every promotion listed above has. And will continue to do so, and wil continue to try new things to better New England MMA. So, please who evers yelling for you at the top of the stairs. Do the right thing and climb out of the cool, dank basement and get into the real world. And please don’t offend myself and the readers by thumbing through your Thesaurus and attacking me with big words. How about do the right thing PEE WEE and apologize to the aforementioned promoters and go back to drawing and knitting where you belong. And if my name or the name of my company appears in one more of your post I’ll make it so Building 19 won’t buy your T-shirts for 5 cents a piece and your biggest problem will be competing with my former business partner for corners to sell lemonade on. SMARTEN UP!!!!

  24. PaulB on June 30th, 2010 2:58 PM

John I too am insulted by your post. I feel that two complimentary tickets to the next show would make me feel better.
My experiences with John and Mike have been possitive. I know Mike trains MMA as hard as anyone in the game. If he brings that kind of effort to the show, it should be fantastic. Plus I have a man crush on Chuck O’Niel.
    Paul Barry

  25. MMA insider on June 30th, 2010 3:11 PM

Well, ya cant expect me to stay quiet on that one can you? Cmon, that would be like not awnsering the phone when someone calls to talk to you personally and man to man, but thats not a cliche for this post. What I will adress are Donnys points, and he has valid good ones as do many of us basement residents who post on here. Im going to make it lengthy because this may be the last post I put up. This is a taxing responsibility, and all the he said/he said gets a bit much after a while and you do need a break at times.So….
I never once Donny have made a comment about your promotion under your tutalige. Any comments where always placed at the responsibility of how someone else ran things. And you and I have had a personal conversation to this matter where we both apologized for incidents we were part of, and moved on with a handshake. No need to bring up alot of things that went wrong before on either part, we both know what I am talking about. Botton line, we put that behind us, or so I thought. As to my comment that you addressed, I did not make that statement, the post before me did, so you may wanna jump on Dwayne as well, and make some personal threats directed his way as well. Which is funny because after this went up, I recieved about 3 texts from people saying”Donny is threatening you on NEMMA”. Which to my knowledge of Donny, I didnt think he would do, and I see he hasnt.
Second issue is yes Donny, I do have an idea as to what goes into a promotion, from vendor spots, to fighter purses, to promotion scale, and production expenditures, employee payroll, out of pocket unexpected expenditures, percentages of tickets sold as compared to bought, comped, and the dollar amount needed to cover every ticket percentage overhead. I am aware of the hassle, confusion, planning, and investment that goes into this aspect. Know dont for a minute think that because Im a “tshirt guy”, That I dont talk to people in your position, I dont inquire, or do research on these facts either. Living in “my basement” while mom cooks meatloaf all day and I scope weddings and funerals for chics alots me a bunch of free time to actually read investment and buisness structure tutorials. Its amazing what human experience with knowledge and use of the internet provides these days.So maybe I have no risked 50,000 of my own money in a night, and for that I hold a great amount of respect for you, and anybody else thats in the position to do it as well. Great courage and determination follow a chance like that, and my hat goes off to anyone building a dream off those chances.
For my knowledge to Combat Sports, again, until you have sat and compared brain pans, never question someones knowledge as to what they do or dont know, I could easily turn around and call out as well that “this is all you know”, whereas I have no conception to what your knowledge level is, so I wont address that aspect, although your comparison to Pee Wee Herman did make me smile a bit…remember Large Marge in the truck…haha.
And as for an apology to all the promoters, I dont think a direct apology is in order, because as a spectator who pays money out of pocket at these events one way or another, I am entitled to an opinion, as is everyone who posts on this site, as you have expressed yours, and will recieve the proper respect for it. As with any opinion, you have those that agree and disagree, and I have been met with both by people from the same organizations you have just mentioned. They have contacted me personally at one point or another to discuss my comments, and with all that I have talked to, I get a general sense that whether they agree or disagree to any extent, they realize that I have never discredited anyone, and only lent an idea, or opinion as to what the general thoughts I get from people in the crowds are saying. And as you look back on former posts, you will see that direct quote as to my thoughts “from what I hear in the crowd”.
I do though Donny, respect your post and will take it to heart, and use it as another lesson learned, and as I have mentioned to you personally a few times over the past few weeks via text or IM, I wish XCFL a great transition, and know that you are coming from a bad position, and look forward to see how you have managed the damage control, and brought XCFL, back to presidence. Its something that the sport needs, and I anticipate great things coming from you as an individual…best of luck.
As far as the lemonade goes, I will wait till winter, people seem to enjoy frozen treats alot better than just a drink…plus from a buisness stance, you can actually charge more once its frozen….haha.
Thanks all for listening, as I mentioned, gonna take a break for a while I think, I will see you all at some point Im sure at an event, please feel free to come over to me personally and voice your opinions as well, to me as a person. I take criticism just as well as compliments….TNT

Nice Damien….way to bring the evidence to the table!!…..still waiting on Dominic Kane to show his “evidence” of all my promotion bashing????

As far as the fights go, there are some good match-ups so far! It will be interesting to see how Perry does after taking so much time out of the ring. Barrington has gotten better every time he fights…..I’m pulling for Barrington and Kaponis though…got to go with my fellow western Mass fighters!!! Best of luck to all!!!

  34. marcc on July 1st, 2010 4:05 PM

  36. Reep on July 2nd, 2010 4:17 PM

lol…..Thanks om!! I do love this sport!!!!

  37. JohnSepulveda on July 9th, 2010 10:21 AM

@marcc, I had lots of functions with the AFO, they remain a top notch organization that puts on great shows and anyone with extra income I would encourage to check out their next show, with that said I am more interested in discussing the future over the past and the great night of fights we have planned for July 30th… The Pro card is complete and should be an exciting line up. We did fall victim to the same circumstances as so many other promotions have lately… Fighters pulling out, fighters not being available, and fighters not coming to terms to make fights happen but non-the-less I am proud of what we have put together and I hope everyone makes it out… also, to Donny Mustapha, I have been quick to judge the XCFL in the past, but the new Tournament of Champions and poster work looks intriguing, I wish you luck with the card.

    and…
Padraig “Thunder Kitten” Thompson vs. Luis “Rockstar” Felix
Who you guys like? What do you think of the match ups?”

    ONeil stoppage 2nd
    Perry triangle 1st
My guys Jeff and Pat were facing very tough guys from Team Rockstar and I’d have had a far hard time picking winners there but both the opponents pulled out-so no pick.

  40. Rick on July 24th, 2010 10:28 AM

Without even looking at the opponent I usually pick Perry by triangle. I think the size difference in that one will be very hard for Barrington to deal with, though.

I think the Chuck O’Neil vs. Kaponis fight is awesome. Kaponis hasn’t gotten much credit yet, and that kid can flat out fight. He’s one of the guys you just know has been the toughest kid on the block since he was a kid. I think Chuck has much better BJJ, but Kaponis was a pretty serious wrestler from what I hear, and usually guys like that pick up BJJ (or at least submission defense) pretty quickly. The two things I’m keeping my eye on in this one is how Kaponis deals with the height/reach advantage of Chuck, and how Chuck deals with the violence of Kaponis.

We’ve seen time and time again guys with better MMA skills have trouble dealing with less experienced guys who are more violent, and more aggressive than they are. We’ve also seen plenty of fights where the less experienced, more violent/aggressive guy folds under pressure when he throws everything he has at a guy and the guy keeps coming without giving an inch.

Sick fight…I hope I can make it down to see it. Do we have a full card yet?

  41. CageTitansFC on July 24th, 2010 12:15 PM

Hi Rick…You have mail. I sent over a full preview of the entire main pro card. As for the undercard (10 Ammy fights), I will post on the thread Monday.

    Quick preview for this thread…
    170 – Anthony Kaponis vs Chuck O’Neil (170lb title)
145 – Matt Perry vs Barrington Douse
145 – Franlin Isabell vs Bill Jones
215 – Steve Skrzat vs Kym Sturdivant
135 – John Campbell vs Brandon Boggs

Unfortunately we were unable to find replacements for Moore and Thompson but hope to have them on in the future!

  42. Reep on July 24th, 2010 12:37 PM

    Awesome card so far!!!

  43. JohnSepulveda on July 25th, 2010 1:23 AM

We have Violence vs. Technique (Kaponis/O’Neil) , a triangle master coming off of an almost 3 year layoff vs. one of the most active and improved fighters on the circuit (Perry/Douse), a recent title challenger vs. a spoiler who has great ground and fresh dedication(Jones/Isabell), Super Man vs. Kryptonite(Steve Skrzat vs. Kym “Kryptonite” Sturdivant) and 2 of the most decorated amateurs at the onset of their pro careers (Campbell/Boggs)… I am very proud of this main card… the undercard is also a great event in itself with fights featuring James Malvesti (SSSF), “Sloppy” Joe Lameroux (SSSF), Eddie Lee (Sity), John “Luda” Cumper (Sity), Tyler King (Connors MMA). Fred Mandracchia (Wai Kru), and a whole host of other outstanding talent and schools represented… 15 fights in all… should be exciting stuff!!!

  44. S.Almeida on July 25th, 2010 1:33 AM

No Saul, it was Ruben that got hurt and couldn’t fight, I believe he broke his hand, Moore was healthy, I believe he stopped his camp after Rubens injury and decided not to get in there with a replacement opponent on just a few weeks notice.

Things came up where Jeff was barely able to train, but he’d agreed to face Ruben so he wasn’t gonna pull out.But when that fight was called off he was under no obligation to still fight.
