Mark Daniels recently posted an article about the recent commission meeting that discussed double weigh-in.
The UFC sent in their big guns to spar with the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission, during today’s public hearing.
The commission adopted a set of emergency rules in March for 90 days. As that period comes to a close every provision was made available for public comment. The commission will vote in the official rules next week.
The biggest issue was that of the double weigh-ins. According to the emergency rules that have been in place, a fighter can make his opponent weight in twice. Under the provisional rule, each fighter would weigh-in 36 hours before an event and then again the day of the fight. Not meeting the weight requirement would result in a forfeit.
In attendance included the UFC’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner, former Nevada Deputy Attorney General and assistant general counsel for the UFC Mike Mersch and local UFC lightweight Kenny Florian.

I heard thumb wrestling is going to be the only form of fighting in the cage come 2011. Can anyone confirm that rumor?
I became a big fan of the UFC at this meeting. If it wasn’t for Mike Mersch taking the time to go over line by line from chapter 5- 20 and letting the commission know what was wrong with the way things were written, no changes would have been made at all. As for the weigh ins the last statement made on it by Mr. Grossman was great, and I’m calling him Mr. Grossman because it might have been the best thing said in the whole meeting. He said “Then maybe we should keep 2 weigh ins for boxing and only one for mma”. That was one of the few times I heard them talk about it as its own sport and not use boxing examples or wrestling for 13 years ago to make harsh decision.

i know this is off thread but i’m wondering why there is no review for the latest xcfl show, i realize they are on their last legs and all but those of us who couldn’t make it to the show would still like to know what happened and why are the comments closed on their preview thread, just wonderin is all
I hope its not there last leg. It was my first show I attended and there production was first class, Fights were great also
I too was at the show and thought although the crowd was small,the production and quality of the fights were great.Lets hope local shows like this stay around and do wha we can to support them so we can all see good local MMA action!
review will go up soon…I’m moving this week, and have been at work, or moving from like 7:00am until 10:30 every night this week. I haven’t forgotten about it.
Ive seen their shows too, good production and some decent fights, but something must be wrong, they seemed to have created this big buzz about themselves and then never came to fruition. There is no real way to know if a promotion will last.
