HUGE fight announced for Triumph

byKevin the Ref ~ May 18th, 2010

This was just announced on a different thread, but big fights like this deserve their own headline:

“I am very excited to announce that #3 Rick Hawn will face #1 Dennis Olson at Triumph Fighter on June 5th at the Hampshire Dome in Milford New Hampshire”
John Fain

Big fight!! You know its very rare that you see 2 guys that are in the top 5 in their weight fight each other. great match John. Good to see that Rick Hawn still gets a fight relatively soon after Shine Fights porked him.

Kudos to both fighters and their respective managers for getting this fight!! Like Dan said, you don’t often see top 5 fighters matched-up. Sadly, egos, and $$ often get in the way…I just feel that if you are on the cusp of going to bigger shows, you should want to test yourself against the best in you’re own area first…

I wonder why Dennis Olsen won’t fight Tom Moreau.

  8. Lits Penis on May 20th, 2010 1:23 PM

Does that make any sense at all?? haha
Dennis just fought Dan Cramer, a UFC veteran and at a weight above his own class, he also just recently fought BJJ black belt and undefeated fighter David Branch on Bellator just before the cramer fight. Now he’s fighting The very tough and arguably the toughest 170lber in NE Rick Hawn.

I heard it was the other way around. Tom Moreau seems to be ducking every top 10 guy out there.
He plays this game where he matches himself up with a tough fight demands to headline the event and then “gets injured” or his medicals are suddenly out of date…..hmmm

He was on the xcfl card against Chris Cape what happened?
He was on the Combat Zone card against a BJJ black belt what happened?
    should i go on?

Dennis is clearly afraid of Tom! I just checked, I have emails and the promoters can confirm that Dennis has asked to fight Tom on Combat Zone, GFL twice, CFX and WCF.

It is true that Dennis has turned down a title shot against Tom for Combat Zone in August. Dennis is booked solid. He is fighting June 5th, July 31st, September 2nd and in November. Thats seven fights in 2010 against high level opponents.

How many guys coming off a loss take a fight against Rick Hawn? How many 170s want to fight Rick at all? Dennis doesn’t take fights he should win, he tries to find ways to win fights he should lose.

He has fought 6 opponents who were ranked in the top ten when he fought them.

Let’s stay on track though. This is going to be an outstanding fight and I don’t think there is a favorite. Dennis usually has a strength advantage but I don’t see that being the case here. They each like to clinch (obviously different styles) and are outstanding athletes. Both guys go full steam ahead. I expect a long battle.

First off Dennis has been the class of the 170 pound division. This will be his 4 Ranked opponent in the last 9 months. With Justin fighting at 185 Rick Hawn is the toughest match-up out there.

As for Tom ducking fights, doesn’t happen. I negotiate Tom’s fights and only on one occasion did we not take a fight and it was based on the fact that the opponent was 4-9 and was being brought in. Tom took a harder fight. Never have we asked to headline an event. We have had our fight rescheduled to later in the night due to the amount of tickets we sell but never has being the “Main Event” been a demand.

As for Chris Cape, Tom was pulled from the fight well before the bout date you can ask Donnie. Congratulations to James Boran on his win.

Tom has never had out of date medicals, what event are you talking about? As for the BJJ Black Belt he was a late replacement and it didn’t happen. By the way Marcos won’t fight Tom.

Do yourself a favor and call Rick, Donnie, David George, or Joe Cuff and find out who we’ve tried to get matched up with. Tom will fight anyone in the top 10 except Rick who he has known for years and John Manley who is with Team Link.

    So please go on….

***Maybe Rick should start a call out page because this is the first I’m hearing that John Fain was chasing Tom to fight Dennis. I’m aware of the August offer and we accepted……. John you have my number when Dennis’ schedule frees up.

  11. John Fain on May 20th, 2010 3:12 PM

Not implying that Tom is ducking Dennis. I’m just stating that Dennis has asked to fight Tom and therefore has not ducked Tom as was previously stated.

There are many reasons why some fighters can’t get together. My post was intended to defend Dennis, not to put Tom down.

    Same here John.

Like I said before we have nothing but respect for Dennis and truely believe he deserves the #1 ranking at 170. For that matter his fight against Rick is really a #1 against a #2 how anyone could think he should be fighting anyone else is insane.

Best of luck and see you on June 5th.
