XCFL 3 is scheduled fpr this Saturday, May 15 from the Marlborough Convention Center. They feature a 170 pound title fight, and have other top fighters like Scott Nichols, and the pro debut of Andreus Jeudi.
I’m a huge fan of the main event of this show. We have Chris Cape from Sit Yod Tong taking on one of my favorite up and coming fighters, James Boran from Dragon Lair. Both guys are very good standing up, and are very good on the mat, but I see them as very different fighters. Chris is the stronger of the two, and is more technical. James is a little more explosive and unpredictable though. I could see either guy hurting the other badly standing up, and could see either submitting the other. This is going to be a sick fight, and I can’t wait to see who leaves with the title.
Another Dragon Lair fighter, Nelson Gaipo is set to take on Boneyard’s Joe DeChaves. Both are exciting, and like the main event, both guys can fight everywhere. Nelson is coming off a recent submission win over Matt Johnson and has shown a pretty slick triangle in past fights. DeChaves will have to make Nelson pay with big shots from the top to avoid the active guard of Gaipo.
Sit Yod Tong’s Scott Nichols makes his return to action when he takes on veteran fighter Robby Roberts. Scott started his pro career with 3 great wins, most recently over Scott Rehm, who is no joke. Robby has looked much improved lately and is coming off two huge first round wins, one by submission and one by KO. Nichols is coming off an injury, and how well he bounces back will play a huge role in this fight. Robby will have a big reach advantage, and he’ll look to avoid the wrestling and top game of Nichols. Nichols is great in a scramble, so Robby will have to fight a very composed and smart fight to win here.
In what could be the fight of the night, Sit Yod Tong’s Luiz Rodriguez takes on Team Rockstar’s Eric Fama. Both teams speak very highly of both guys, and talk about them as if they’re the best fighter from their team that you haven’t heard of. Both guys are fantastic all around, and both are great athletes. The winner of this fight will likely get a big local fight after this one.
Another fight I’m anxious to see is Andreus Jeudi vs. Scott Lynch. Andreus is one of the best kickboxers in the northeast, and he’s been trying to get a mixed martial arts fight for years, but nobody wants any of it. Andreus has long been talked about Sit Yod Tong’s top prospect, and we’ll finally see him in action in MMA. He is 7-0 in Muay Thai. I don’t know Lynch at all, but I’m told he’s a very tough guy, and he knows exactly who Andreus is, and what he brings. Lynch is not some random guy they found who lives in a cave who is being fed to the wolves. Lynch shoud be a live underdog in this one.
Here is what the rest of the card looks like:
Ruben Rey vs. George Lynch
Asa Buck vs. Ron Harris
Robbie Slade vs. Todd Sweeny
From what I understand, all of these guys have been licensed and cleared to fight, so barring any crazy last minute injury, these fights will all happen. None of these fights will be cancelled due to paperwork issues.
Also, I’ll be setting up a table at this event where I’ll be selling NorthEastMMA t-shirts, so make sure to stop over and buy one…all the cool kids are doing it.

good luck Asa and Robby!
by the looks of this web stream i dont think XCFL will be doing shows much longer. 400 people including 40 mass commissioners and XCFL staff.
You forgot to mention 12 pack! While I think Fight-Stream is a nice idea, it cant be good for promotions. I spent $9 to watch from home vs driving up to Malboro and paying what $25-$40?
Robbie slade def Todd sweeney by 2nd rd arm triangle
Ruben rey def George lynch by 1st rd tko
Andreus jeudi def Scott lynch 1st rd tko
Scott nichols def Robbie roberts by tko
Luiz rodriguez def Eric fama by armbar
Nelson Gaipo def Asa Buck by 1st rd tko
James Boran Def Chris Cape by 2nd rd guillotine and became the XCFL 170lb champion.
Rick, James Boran should enter the 170 rankings at 10th imo.
Congrats to Nelson and James!!!
props to Luiz Rodrigues that was a slick arm bar he pulled on my guy! Fama will be back and Team RockStar is Making a Statement!!! sit back and enjoy!
Congratulations to ALL who won!!! Big night For James Boran!!!! Lots of love for you!!! You make us all EXTREMELY proud!!! Keep %100 Mental!!! XO
i was at the fight and although it wasnt a packed house the quality of fights i thought for the most part were good,as well as the production being top notch for a local show.As far as FIGHT-STREAM hurting a promotion…why does the ufc and other fight promotoins have pay per view?If it was bad for the show would they do it?Fact is there are always people who are going to stay home and watch the game, and people who like to go and seee the action live…period!I If yo cant afford $40 for a ticket to the show than fight stream is a great alternative for you.I think as an mma community we should support local guys fighters and promotions.
I think the big difference with PPV and the UFC is that the UFC sells the arena of 20,000 or 30,000, and nearly a million (in some cases more) buy it on pay-per-view. I’m not sure if fight stream helps or hurts the promoter. I don’t know how much $ they generate from the stream so it’s impossible to say without the data.
Fight Stream is a nice addition… I think in a lot of cases it is not a matter of getting fight stream for 9.00 as an alternative to going to the show. I think it is more getting fight stream for 9.00 as an alternative to not seeing the show at all, or reading the show. Most people know there is not much comparison to the live experience over watching it on your computer. I am not sure the revenue they generate from it… I do however know the Fight Stream standard deal… and it is effective with A LOT of buys… but also, the cost of having them at the show is not out of the range of most camera crews so it gives you another layer of off setting the cost of the production to some degree… I know Full Force used to do Fight Stream pretty regularly and I don’t remember it ever creating a live attendance issue, but I could be wrong… I think attendance is a by product of value for your mma dollar, to the casual fan, who has no connection to a fighter, you can spend 40 bucks to see 7 fights, or you can spend 40 bucks to see 15 fights, or not even knowing the commission is now in place, some casual fans have in the past spent 40 bucks to see 20 or more fights on a show… those fans have no idea about licensing and fight approvals, etc.. They just now that they are looking at paying the same amount for 1/3 the fights and, as a result, there will be some type of adjustment period economically… I don’t think Fight Stream can take the heat for poor attendance on a massively noticeable scale.
Hey there John, Nice to see you on here… I don’t know if fight stream gives the same same deal across the board with all promotions but I looked into it for one of my shows and you need a lot of buys to have it pay for itself before making any money on it. When a show pulls low numbers and I’m not talking xcfl, just across the board I don’t think there going to even come close to make it worth its wild with the number of buys they might got. Personally I would worry about ticket buys being a local show, i’d much rather see a ticket get sold but even more because I need a lot of stream buys not to lose money on it
Anyone saying fight stream is hurting business, you dont know what your talking about. If you think its encouraging people to stay home and watch the fights, your wrong. Take me for example. Last fights they put online, I decided I wasnt going to go to the fights because of how far it was, work schedule, etc. I made that decision long before I even knew they were going to have the fights online and when I found out, I ordered them and watch the last of the fights online when I got home where as I would of watched none of it if they didnt offer it. I even had guys I train with fighting that night too!
If fightstream didnt offer the fights online, I think its safe to assume ticket sales might increase a little bit but nothing enough to hurt the business. I am also sure fight stream pays out a percentage (I would hope so) to the company hosting the event so I bet in the end, its pretty even and if not, its close.
Its just one mans opinion but if you would like to prove me wrong, do the numbers and let everyone know.
