CFX “Mayhem in Mansfield” takes place this Saturday, April 3 from the M-Plex in Mansfield, MA. The card is absolutely sick, so I’ll jump right into it.
The Main event is CFX Title holder Lee Beane vs. #1 ranked HWT Christain Morecraft. Both guys have run through everyone they’ve fought, and both are in great shape fot his fight. Lee is a beast, and has been dominant with his ground and pound, and Morecraft has been using above average BJJ for a huge guy to get his wins. I have no clue how this one is going to go, but it’s going to be insane.
Chuck “Cold Steel” O’Neil is set to take on Chip Moraza Pollard in what should be another insane fight. Chuck was on a big winning streak before losing his local title to Tim Pinney, and came back with a win over Joe Kavey. He looks to get back on a winning streak this week. He has heavy hands, and a great triangle, along with a slick ground game. He is very tough to beat, and is really tall for 170. Chip is undefeated and coming off a win over veteran Mike Littlefield, and has a couple KO/TKO wins. I haven’t seen him fight, but everyone I’ve talked to thinks he’s going to give Chuck a very tough night of work.
The much awaited rematch between Shawn Galano and Ken Avery is finally here. Their first fight ended with a bit of controversy (Galano hit Avery as they were tapping gloves and swarmed for the TKO win) and both have something to prove. Avery wants redemption, and Galano wants to prove that his first win was legit. Both guys are big, strong heavyweights, and they both have KO power. Someone is getting knocked out in this one.
This is going to be a fun night of fights, and they have 18 fights overall, all pro. The card below is what I had as of two days ago, but we now know Joe Kavey won’t be available to fight. If I hear of a replacement for Bill Mahoney, I’ll post it here.
Here is the full card:

Wow, huge card right there!!! Best of luck to the CFX and all fighters and teams involved!! Great to see Abe Pitrowski back in there…..kid is a beast!!!
wow ! i wish this was in plymouth at the jungle ! there is no way to fit all the people this card will draw . its hard im sure to get all the fights to be perfect matches , no mater who’s show or what venue . for 18 fights this looks like about as close as you can get ! as these people grow there company, they just keep getting better ! morecraft @ beane ! for me this is bitter sweet , i love both these guys ! i,ll be happy and sad eather way . i dont know cold steel , i understand he is a great fighter , chip i know . great kid ,verry dedicated and the most patient fighter i have ever seen . good luck to all the fighters ! 1 would not miss this one !!
the hammer
Hammerhead,
Great to see you on the internet the other day calling out foley for a rubber match. Kind of convienient now that there is a commision and you KNOW they won’t sanction you to fight. Just my 2 cents. BTW, oldspice called, they want there commercial back
lol , cute larry ! befor i sent the video i made sure there were no problems with the commish . the only thing is i have to get to 265 so all that does is get rid of another excuse ! so save your 2 cents little fella ,you can buy a booster seat to see into the ring ! lol
BTW, scope and ticktacks !!
So now this is the “famed” CFX show I have heard so much about…and be it said, not good things. Although I did hear the promoter is good looking, other than that the shows kind of flop. As usuall, I did my research though, and yes, Linda is an attractive woman, but she is married to that mass of a man, Gary, so I will steer clear there!! Last show was something like 22 fights with a majority of them ending in a minute or so, now that is just absurd matchmaking. This card here though, looking through it, seems to follow suit, although there are 2-3 matches that could possibly save it. Is that how you guys do it out here in Mass, a bunch of slouch matches and 2-3 prayers?
Now from footage I have seen, CFX draws one hell of a crowd, so hopefully they can deliver fight wise. I am also interested in meeting these promoters as well, and seeing the character of this organization. Hopefully meeting them will dispell the rumors, but like anyone, you have to give them their own opportunity to prove themselves, or as we saw this weekend, enough rope to hang themselves.
It will be very intruiging, as well as interesting from a many number of views, I will be in attendance to see this, see you all there! Haha, look for the new guy around that introduces himself to everyone!!
Beane VS Morecraft is a sick fight. Chuck VS Chip is a sick fight . Good Luck Chip, can’t imagine you losing with Greshy Gresh in your corner…Avery VS Galano, nice…. but I am really excited to see what happens with Abe (that kid is money )and as always my man Louis “Rockstar” Felix is no doubt gonna put on a show. Looks like it should be a good night and I am certain Linda will have that place packed to the rafters with fans and make for a great night..Good luck to all the fighters and I can’t wait to read all about it.
BG
I may be able to I have to see a cardiologist and get cleared within the next two days or I am assuming he will need a replacement.
mma insider cali fighters are overrated and so is your herb…
U R the replacement Joe, actually you’re the replacement for the replacements replacement. It’s okay, fight or not. Can’t bring myself to care after these last couple times. All I know is that 75% of MMA fighters break their hands or throw their back out the week of their fight.Little known, but true fact. But we all know you’ll fight if they let u Kavey so no worries.
What ever happened to guys just not taking fights that you don’t want? Or do guys just take fights so they can pretend to be a fighter on facebook? Then when it comes to actually getting punched they aren’t so keen on it.
IN ANY CASE O’Neil-Pollard and Morecraft-Beane are terrific fights so I’ll be there.
Rick – Will you be attending / writing a review?
MMA Insider, you seem to be pretty negative about the whole “here in Mass thing.” Are you involved in the scene? If not, jump on in. There are a lot of promotions and a lot of really great people trying to make it work. I for one am very proud of what we’ve accomplished up here and when you look at the number of fighters who are kicking tail on the big shows who are from this area, we must be doing something right. Yes there are always going to be growing pains, but that means we’re growing right. If you think that there is room for improvement, seek out the players involved and try to help.
insider –
keep in mind that the people who are reading your comments are the fighters, the trainers, the promoters, and the other people who are closely tied to these events.
nobody here is under the impression that MMA in new england is perfect, obviously it’s got some issues and is still growing and changing. but it will get taken personally if you are calling fighters a bunch of slouches. the people you are talking about are the ones reading it.
anyway, not trying to bust your balls. good to have you on here and hope you stick around.
Star Ruben Rey doesn’t stand a chance. Jeff Moitoso just TKO’d a little dog. Way to go tough guy.

Jeff Moitoso should not be allowed on this card at all. Beating up a little dog…Come the f*** on…
By no means do I dislike MMA here in Mass at all. Being new to the scene, I am taking a look and offering not only a critique perspective, but also a new view look. As for me calling any fighter a slouch or anything like that, not at all. Calling a few fights slouch matches is just a term where I am from to describe a few guys fighting at the lower ranks..my sincere apologies on that terminology. But as for the way you all critizied the fighters on here, and the matches themselves, it truly is not that different, just the terminology. Now I have taken a few hits on this page since, and I repeat since, I let it out That I come from California…I notice the few posts before were not met with any critisisms until that point, which is truly funny.
But all kidding aside, to Saks, and Kev the Ref: Not in a lifetime am I lending any disrespect to your community, fighters or promoters. I do however have a tendancy to say what comes to mind, and being that I come from a journalistic background where I am from, I try to lend in my opinion a realistic, not over glamorized, flexible way. Im sure to an extent it may offend some, it may help some. As for me to come on board Kev, its already my intention and job to be on board. I am working with a few financeers in this sport currently, I may I add to my defense that the current items I am writing about here as posts, are the same ideas being addressed to these committees in person. I do not lend these views to critisize, or make fun of. In lending these opinions, I have gotten the exact feedback I am looking for to some degrees. People backing up my statements with yes or no comments, agree or disagree comments. Which is exactly my intention, to see how the community as a whole views certain aspects. You do not have to agree with me, nor disagree, but as entitlement to my opinion, and what I view for myself, like it or not, its a view that not only should be addressed, but will be. Whos to say one of my less than stellar comments, be it all true, doesnt strike a nerve to someone to fix that situation, or make improvements to prevent it from happening again? Which in all technicality of the phrase, is what Im hoping to lend. Believe me, my thoughts were conveyed personally and verbally to people associated with the last events and they did not seem to have any problems thinking I was insulting them, or berrating them. I wish the same from all of you here on the site as well, open forum communication, opinion, critique…what one person may choose not to say because they feel it may “offend” someone, may be the one true link that keeps that situation from being improved or resolved.
So, again to the MMA community here in Mass, my sincere apologies if I have offended anyone, being a new resident, obviously things are different, and as I strive to become part of a new culture, it only my deepest and most gratuitous intentions to make it the best possible!! Thank you
And just to be safe…I will leave the dog beater post alone…because in no way can I lend a civil, nor unimpressionable response to such a distasteful individual…I am an adimant animal supporter and lover, so my emotion would get the better of me here!
wow !lol i aint read that mutch since the fith grade ! im dizzylol
mmainsider…you write very clearly…i thought my comment might make you smile…california is great state with many amazing fighters but how many are home born fighters and not transplants to a better climate…around here things are alittle different …not many people move to new england to fight so most of are fighters are local and we support them with enthusiastically…i read all your post and found them thoughtful but your comment about how we do it in mass thing…well i sensed your were having a california moment so i thought a little jab appropriate…how does it feel to get jabbed by a old man….smile
Just read the article about Moitoso…and I am now a big Star Ruben Rey fan.
All it sends to me as as a message OM is that no matter how old you are my friend, as long as you stay young at heart with vibrance, passion and enthusiasm…you will never truly get old! I admire your opinion, and be it very true to some degree as well. Lots of fighters transplant to Cali due to perfect training weather and conditions for the most part. I love the enthusiasm for the fighters, more people should have this, and all be it a great additive to MMA in New England, theres alot of room to make things better, and bigger. Thats all that I really want to see, my local area MMA scene the best it can be at its capabilities because people such as yourself evidently, care and have a passion to see it succedd! I am becoming more humble while here, and alot of the guys on this site, with their comments and posts are enabling me to do it rather gracefully…its truly a pleasure and rewarding expirience being here as you grow into the future!
I’d be surprised if Moitoso even shows up! If he does? I’m hoping to see Star Ruben Ray treat him like he treated his dog!! I agree with Kavery39, he shouldn’t be allowed on the card!
MMAInsider, thanks for the clarification. Things on here can get crazy and I hate to see it get negative. One thing I love about the online mma community, whether it be here or on the UG, is the humor and sarcasm. I love it when a good fued gets going, but sometimes it crosses the line. I consider the entire community here as friends. We have all worked VERY hard to get where we are and if, at the end of the day, you are on the side of helping not hurting our efforts, we appreciate it. The next few months will be very tough as we get things up to speed. With that in mind, please remember that many good people are busting thier humps and risking their money and reputations to move the ball forward. I think the future will be bright, we just have to get through the rainy days first (literally and figuratively:) ).
Thanks brain & reep who is behind the screen name reep? Im pretty sure ruben ray doesnt put star in front of his name that must be a mis print
You said previously that we’ve met before, Insider..when did we meet?
Jeff is going through a tough time right now with the whole dog sitiuation…his neighbor claimed he saw Jeff punch the small dog repeatedly, and supposedly killed the dog. The dog is alive and fine…supposedly suffered from some allergies and was on a special diet from the vet, which made the dog thin….I dont know what the 100% truth is, but there are usually 2 sides to every story. He started training with us about 3 months ago…I know he is fighting out of Team JBA, which is a well rounded gym. Tom Lawlor started his career with JBA in Fall River…many established fighters from New England have trained with Don Banville (Joe Pomfret, Lauzon, Varner, Lockhart, Tony Leate, etc…)
Ben, I know you even if you don’t know me. I know who Don is. His students have opened up most of the mma schools in this area. No one is questioning you or Don. I also unfortunately know Jeff. He is exactly the type of person who would pick up a little dog by the scruff of it’s neck and punch it repeatedly. That is inexcusable. I hope Star Ruben Rey, who happens to have one of the coolest names I’ve ever heard, picks up Jeffrey and returns the favor.
Good one Keith
Star Ruben Ray. wins Fight of Nite

Injured, malnourished dog leads to owner’s arrest
A small mixed breed dog, skinny and scared, was coaxed from its hiding place under a parked car on Bank Street Monday.
The condition of the dog, when officers got it, lead to the arrest of its owner, Jeffery Moitoso, 25, of Bank Street, on the charge of animal cruelty.
The Fall River Police were called at 3:35 p.m. by a witness who reported seeing a man lift up a small dog and punch it several times in the face.
Officers Jason Resenes and Jared Mooney responded with Animal Control Officer Cindy Berard. They met with Moitoso, who helped them haul his dog, Chuck, out from under his car.
Officers report the dog was shivering, appeared to be in pain and was apparently malnourished, prosecutor Jackson Jones told District Court Judge John Julian at Moitoso’s arraignment Tuesday.
The dog had an injury to its leg. Moitoso told police the dog jumped out of a window several days earlier. It also had injuries to its face, police report.
Police questioned Moitoso about reports that he hit his dog, Jones said in court.
“He said he slapped the dog because the dog defecated on the floor of his apartment,” Jones related.
The dog was seized and taken to the Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services in Swansea where it was admitted for treatment of trauma to the head and a broken leg.
Moitoso was released on $500 bail.
He was ordered to return to court on April 15 for a pretrial conference.
A conviction on the charge of unnecessarily beating an animal or failing to provide it with food, shelter or veterinary care carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $2,500 fine.
Maybe I shouldnt have said we have met Rick, but I was introduced to you at WCF briefly. You seemed very busy and pre disposed at the moment, and my comments of your intellegence and ettiquette were primarily based on your knowledge that I see here and what others have said to me in regards to you. So, profoundly speaking, being introduced to someone briefly isnt exactly meeting.
No big deal, was just curious. I felt like a dick because I didn’t remember meeting anyone from California recently, and based on your posts here, I assumed we would have talked about that and I wanted to make sure I didn’t blow you off or anything lol.
haha…first of all…if my name WAS Star Ruben Rey that would be amazing…but its just Ruben Rey..haha…sorry to disappoint!!! however, i do fully intend to take the law into my own hands if u know what i mean… i have been a dog owner my whole life and my fight name is RUKUS which is in memory of my pitbull that passed away 2 years ago so as u can tell i take my animals seriously. i TRULY HOPE this kid shows up not only because its my pro debut but also because i need to give this kid what hes got coming to him. thanks to everyone for the support so far and i cant wait to get in the cage with this kid….im a pitbull at heart and i think we all know what happens when u put a hungry pit in a fight…..LETS GO!!!! 3-0 as an amateur and i plan on keepin the streak going….see u all there…..i will not disappoint!!! Team Rockstar will be in the building!!
shit happens with everyone ! THEIRS ALLWAYS TwO SIDE OF THE STORY U CANT ALLWAYS BELIVE WAT u read its not allways right so dont talk shit before u knoe that facts !
Did he say he was from California?
MMA Team – Kieth F
I’ve known him for about 3 months … I dont get into the fighter’s personal lives…but I dont want any fighters to negatively reflect Team JBA … With that being said if Jeff is telling the truth then he’ll be cleared by the courts; if not then he gets whats coming. I dont care about the fighters pesonal lives, as long as my fighters show up to the gym and put in the work.
PS my dogs are playing right now…if it is true, that is fucked up
Hahahaha i die to this! unfortunatly for jeff “the animal lover” Moitoso hes fighting Ruben Rey aka the newly found STAR RUBEN REY lmao… who is a dog lover like myself and owns dogs. just expect tons of elbows from my boy this fight. unleashing punishment is gona be more important than finishing it fast!!!! gettem RUKUS!

“Due to circumstances beyond our control and of the MMA Commission, CageFX April 3rd show has been postponed to May 1st at the jungle Plex in Plymouth. We would like to thank the commission for going above and beyond to help push forward. Unfortunately we were unable to meet the newly implemented regulation deadline.”

Good for Ruben Rey and all fighters should boycott this looser
If CFX lets jeffery moitoso fight I lose all respect for CFX
