I ran into a promoter recently and was asked “why don’t you ever talk about my show on your site?” and the answer was really simple…because you don’t ask me to. He poked fun at me saying I only post about WCF, GFL and XCFL, which lately has been pretty true…because I work for WCF, so I know what we have going on, and I write our press releases, so I have the info. I post for XCFL often because they send me emails, or call me with info about things they have going on…and I post for GFL because Bonnell calls me and says “I know you’re busy, but I wrote a press release about some of our main events for the next event. Can you post it for me?”

I literally read this MMA site, and 1 other site. I DO NOT go out looking for local MMA news. I have a very busy day job, work for WCF and run this site…plus I have a life, with a family and all that stuff. I literally forgot to preview events or send guys to shows to review them in the past because I didn’t even know they were happening. I just found out the other day that some new promotion just popped up in NH for a show in May. I found out because a girl I work with heard me and another guy talking about Jones vs. Vera and she said her friend won a ring girl contest for some show. Had this new promoter emailed me saying “hey, I’m putting on a show in a couple months and have a ring girl contest in 2 weeks.” I would have posted something for him.

I would LOVE more content on here, guys. I post seminars all the time, as well as random news like the XCFL partnering with Moosin because someone brings it to my attention. So promoters…if you have ANYTHING that the readers of the site may want to hear about…an interview you just did with a fighter, a big fight you have coming up, a ring girl contest…whatever it is, email me. If you take the time to actually write something that I can copy and paste, it’ll go up as soon as I open the email.

The purpose of this site is to grow local MMA and keep the readers informed of upcoming events, so PLEASE DON’T KEEP YOUR NEWS A SECRET! If you don’t tell me that you have something going on, chances are I’ll keep posting about everyone but you.

I would also love more writers to add content to the site…so if any of you know people who will write interesting articles for basically free event tickets and the occassional beer, let me know.

    free beer you say?

Rick, I’ve been (silently) enjoying the site for about a year now and use it to find most of my news in the region. As a spectator who tries to get out to a local event every once in a while, I’ve found myself increasingly excited about the growth of the sport in our area and would certainly be interesting in an opportunity to give a little bit back.

Are you able to elaborate on what sort of content you’re hoping to find help with?

Any event coverage is a plus…like, before the Homsey vs. Almeida fight, an interview with either fighter, or an article featuring quotes from each would be good…general fighter interviews would be good also.

I’m afraid I don’t boast any unique personal access to fighters or promoters, but writing up the odd event is certainly something I could be interested in. What’s the best way to begin this discussion?

shoot me an email. rcaldwellmma@yahoo.com. If it’s personal access to fighters and promoters, I can handle that part. I just don’t have the time to make the calls and write up the interviews.

despite what Rick says, a prostate exam IS NOT part of the interview process
