CFX “Rumble in the Jungle 3″ Preview

byRick ~ February 14th, 2010

This Saturday, February 20, 2010 Cage Fighting Xtreme presents “Rumble in the Jungle 3″ from the Jungleplex in Plymouth, MA. The card features tons of great talent like Pat Schultz, Josh Diekmann, Christian Morecraft, Damien Trites and the return of Scott Lockhart…and they have 23 total fights.

With 23 total fights, I obviously can’t preview every fight. I’ll start with the ones I’m really excited about:

Damien Trites vs. Jason Sarbacker should be pretty awesome. Trites has great hands, solid BJJ and his fights are always exciting. Sarbacker was 2-1 amateur and is 1-0 as a pro, and all three wins came via TKO. Both guys like to punch people in the face, and this fight has the potential to end with a big KO.

In another fight that should feature a ton of face punching, Pat Schultz is set to fight for the first time since being on UFC’s TUF reality show. It’s been about 2 years since the show, and nearly 3 years since we saw Pat fight locally. He’s set to take on Fernando Rivera, and though Fernando’s record isn’t great, he’s fought all tough fighters and has great boxing. Fernando seems to struggle with guys who can take him down, but I see Pat trying to bang with him. This is a dangerous fight for Pat, and anytime you can get two big guys willing to stand and trade, it’s entertaining…plus Pat usually has the frosted tips going for his fights and that’s just awesome.

Brett Oteri has been crushing people lately and he is set to take on big time banger Rigo Dominicci. This should be a war. Both guys have KO power and both fight with a style that is sure to please the crowd. Rigo has really looked good lately, and Brett will have to take him off his feet and beat him up on the ground to get the win here.

Josh Diekmann vs. Bobby Favors should be friggin awesome. Josh is a big dude, but this one will look like David vs. Goliath. Favors is listed at 6’2″ and is nearly 400 pounds. He’s had nearly 20 pro fights and he’ll look like a giant next to Diekmann, who is about 230. Josh is coming off a loss to Christian Morecraft, and will no doubt be looking to take some frustration out on Favors.

With 23 fights, you really can’t go wrong with this show. Even if they lose a few fights, and some turn out to be boring, you’re still  likely going to see a ton of awesome fights. Diekmann vs. Favors alone with worth the price of admission. Here is the full card:

Wow….ton of fights, and a few pretty good ones too! Good luck to all fighters and teams, and good luck to CFX for another great turn-out. The Jungle-Plex is a cool venue to see the fights, lots of room to roam, and pretty good views from everywhere.

  2. Loco Lobo on February 14th, 2010 6:16 PM

Loco Lobo’s prediction for fight of the night. Mendes vs Conrad. Two old war horses battling it out! Should be good. Yes, Pat Schultz will have frosted tips amd is ready to go. And look forward to seeing Morecraft’s new found Muay Thai skills. This looks like a real good night of fights.

At the same event in Boston this past Saturday night as Damien Trites.
All around great guy, etc etc but he had a distinct focus and stillness in his eyes. Reminded me of “the quiet before the storm”….
I’d put my $$$ on “The Omen”!

i’d like to pre-congratulate the left side of the card on their victories.

  8. Keith F on February 16th, 2010 10:20 AM

lol at mmafanatic. i almost snorted out loud.

  9. Dalton on February 16th, 2010 10:45 AM

Betonsports.com has the left side of the card at -400.

Bodog has it 2-1 that the right side gets swept.

Olympia sportsbook has the over/under for the right side winning at 2 fights.

  10. MAINEVENTFAN on February 16th, 2010 11:44 AM

Although the left side appears to be favored in many fights don’t discount some of the fighters on the right side. Some very interesting fights…… J.P. White vs. a red hot Ruben Ray, Leroux vs. an always tough Douse, Big boys Papoutsidis vs. Therrien, Fight of Night potential in Trites vs. Sarbacker as well as Oteri now fighting tough sob in Rigo Domenici, and old dogs Conrad vs Mendes has been long awaited and I’m sure will not disappoint. Should be a great night of fights and any of those fights could go either way.

  11. alex luna on February 16th, 2010 12:14 PM

dalton – i’ll have to agree with the 2 fight over/under. BTW is the double duece still paying well?

maineventfan – while its true that any fight can go either way there is no denying that, on paper at least, the left hand of this card is pretty much a lock. the only fights that i would be hard pressed to pick a winner in are conrad/mendes and oteri/dominicci.

  12. Dalton on February 16th, 2010 1:58 PM

    Be cool

  13. Dalton on February 16th, 2010 1:58 PM

Until it’s time not to be cool

  14. SANDMAN on February 16th, 2010 6:01 PM

  16. Dalton on February 17th, 2010 9:50 AM

    This is uncomfortable.

steve “hit me in the jaw once and I’m” Dunn, lighten up, that was a funny moniker that you have been assigned. No one here is disrespectful. Yes we know you are a cage fighter, brave and fit, but yes, you have a glass jaw. That is ok too. You are big enough, smart enough, tough enough and just a good person. Protect your chin or you are Dunn, good luck
