New Hampshire MMA Licensing and medical requirements:
In order to fight as a PRO MMA fighter in NH, you must have a NH PRO MMA license. You can get your license during the weigh-ins for NH MMA fights. Fighters are weighed-in and are given pre-fight physicals the night before scheduled MMA events. During the weigh-ins, if you are an unlicensed PRO fighter, you can get a NH PRO MMA license. You have to provide the NHBWC a valid, government-issued photo ID and $15.00, and you will be issued a license which is good for one (1) year.
In order to fight in the MMA show as a pro or amateur fighter, you must provide copies of the required medical results to the NHBWC at the time of the weigh-ins. As of September 20, 2009, this is required for any amateur or pro MMA fighter. Even if a pro fighter already has a current NH pro MMA license, you must provide copies of the required medical exams to the NHBWC at the time of the weigh-ins.
The required medical exams are as follows:
HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C (no more than 6 months old at the time of the weigh-ins);
A physical exam (with a statement from the doctor that they have examined you and you are fit to fight) (no more than 1 year old at the time of weigh-ins);
An EKG (you must provide a copy of the EKG print out) (no more than 1 year old at the time of weigh-ins);
An eye exam which includes a dialated pupil exam and examination of the retinas (no more than 1 year old at the time of weigh-ins).
Just so everyone is clear, all pro and amateur fighters must provide these medicals EVERY TIME you fight in NH. And every pro fighter must have a valid, unexpired pro NH MMA license at the time you fight as a pro in NH

I thought the license was proof that all the meds were done???? why have both???
Will they require an original document at each weigh in? If so, do you know if they keep them or give them back? This includes the Dr.’s note as it will be a real pain in the ass to keep asking a doc for note each time someone fights. I would assume a photocopy would suffice but it would be good to be sure.
I am not a commissioner nor do i represent them, but i do understand the rules quite well. so to answer your questions…
Reep: You must have both the license and the medicals. The license is given the day you weigh-in. however, your medicals may have all different expiration dates on them depending on when you had last seen each individual doctor. therefor the license does not accurately state when all your Medicals expire rather just when your license does.
This poses the question, why have the license then? Well, the license is a document, like a receipt that the commission has received your meds and you are current. plus they can charge you for it to make back some of the money they spend updating you in the national database as a certified, licensed fighter.
D.Pasquarelli: Keep the originals! The state only needs a copy of your medicals not the original documents themselves. This way you dont have to visit the doctor each and every time you fight, as you said. that is a pain in the ass. Furthermore, if you give them the originals or a copy they do keep them and file them under your name for documentation. but asking them to retrieve them for you is asking a bit much considering it is your responsibility to take care of your own medicals. plus you can always go back to your doctor and have him make another copy just as quickly.
Just so people know, the state of NH doesn’t have a huge funding base here for several deputy commissioners to be answering questions, filing medicals, licensing fighters, data entry etc. its pretty much just one or two people who take on the responsibility in their free time after there day job.
To better help the fighters and managers understand what is expected of them i asked the commission to write a brief summary of what they now expect from us when we arrive at the weigh-ins and plan to fight in the future. I hope that this article helps make future weigh-ins run smoother for both the promoter and the fighters and commission.
the more questions the better!
