I just want to give a HUGE congratulations to promoters Jesse Camp and Marcos Alvan for putting together a fantastic show last night. It was hard to believe it was a first time promotion by how smooth and professional everything went. The venue was perfect, the 8 man was exciting (big Congrats to Vaca on the win), and the 9 amateur mma matches rivaled any pro card out there. I look foreward to what the newest western MA promotion has for the future because they started strong.

Glad to hear it went well!!! Hope to see many more events in western Ma real soon!!

Kipp Kollar awards match to Justin Torrey and Marco steps in and overrides the decision. WTF???

    ^^^
No way!!! Did that really happen??? I’d love to see a video of the match to see who really won. That would be shady, considering Vaca is team Link????

From what I understand, the grappling rules were that, if there were no points scored, or there was a tie, the referee could either make the call or consult the other referee who would be watching from cageside (in this particular bout it was Kirik) if it was too close, and render a decision. The match was extremely close and I believe Kipp felt one way, Kirik felt another, so they consulted Marco who agreed with Kirik. I’m pretty sure that Torrey was NOT grappling a Team Link fighter so there was not a conflict of interest.

As a referee, you are usually in the moment, not looking at the fight as a whole. In a close match like this one, Kipp was wise to use the rule in place. When that also caused a tie, Marco was probably the most senior authority readily available to consult as he had been cageside watching the match intently.

Again, great night and congrats to all!

Can someone re-cap the grappling tourney? What matches went down, scores, etc? How did The Animal do?

  9. Reep on October 6th, 2009 3:54 PM

I wasn’t there, so I’m not disputing any facts…but as far as I know, Vaca IS affilliated with Link…….someone correct me if I’m wrong….

sorry, I re-read, and it looks as though the match in ? wasn’t Vaca vs torrey….. Who was in the finals????

1.vaca vs. eager- vaca won by dec. seemed to have the size strength advantage.
2.peter karantzas vs. Andre??? dont know the name but appeared to be a college wrestler. Eventually Andre would take down and and impose his will on the much bigger peter.
3.Nate kittredge vs. lee beane- good match both guys were powerfull. towards the end kittredge missed a throw I believe and the huge beane got on top in a scramble and won on points.
4.Torrey vs. macaaco- Torrey was on top for the match I believe in half gaurd. macaaco tried for sweeps and subs but never came close to anything. Thought Torrey won but then heard it was macaaco.

first semi match was vaca vs. the wrestler. Dont know his name unfortunately but believe he was a fill in. Vaca caught him in a foot lock in a scramble.

in the 2nd semi match lee beane was able to impose his will on the smaller macaaco and win a dec.

In the finals vaca would pull guard and repeatedly sweep beane from half guard. eventually Lee had an answer for that but vaca would spin out and take him down with something else. Moreno was impressive in this match dealing with the huge lee beane.
