New England Cage Fighting Presents:
Wartown Beatdown 3
Saturday, August 22 from Platinum Premiere in Worcester, MA
I started writing for MassMMA with one goal in mind – get into my favorite local shows for free. With that goal accomplished, I never felt the need to continue writing for the site on a permanent basis. Plus, you guys are a bunch of bitchy little girls, and it’s really difficult to please all of you.
However, Rick asked me to review an event that combined MMA, alcohol, and titties – who was I to refuse? So I traveled to Worcester, pointed my GPS in the direction of Platinum Premiere, and then spent 20 minutes trying to find a place to park. You see, you can’t really park at the strip club – that’s reserved for VIPs, and those who will be spending their singles trying to support a cocaine addiction and fill the void left by a molesting uncle. If you’re there for MMA, you can try to secure street parking, or go down a couple of blocks, park in a run down abandoned lot, and assume that your car will not be there when you get back. A short walk down some broken beer bottle and used needle covered sidewalks, and I was at the show.
The event was packed – like nut-to-butt packed, alcohol was flowing, music pumping, and the atmospher was great. Opening festivities started promptly at 7:30, with an eardrum-rupturing version of the National Anthem – now, onto the fights.
Amateur Fights:
Larry McBryant (?) vs. Ruben Rey
I’m told that McBryant took this fight on about 7 hours notice. It showed, as he swung wildly and was quickly taken down by Rey. Rey mounted, McBryant gave his back, and looked to finish quickly, but McBryant rolled back to giving Rey mount. Rey chooses to throw big rights to the body rather the face, but McBryant gives his back again, and this time Rey sinks the RNC.
Winner: Ruben “Ruckus” Rey
Submission – Rear Naked Choke
Round 1
Around this time, I’m roped into scorekeeping for the event. I’d like to see any of these other writers pull double duty.
Mike Jonson vs. Bean Peak
Both guys dance around a bit, trying to find their range. Peak rushed in with a big right hand and a kick. Peak lands a sweet side kick to the face as Jonson looks for a takedown. Peak stuffs it, lands in full mount, but Jonson reverses into Peak’s guard. Peak looks for kimura, and Jonson defends by putting Peak into the cage. They stand with 10 seconds left, and the round ends.
Jonson scores early in the second with a takedown, and works the body as he stuffs Peak against the cage. Peak escapes to his feet and attempts a guillotine. He abandons it and gets a takedown of his own, passing to side mount to defend a weak guillotine attempt by Jonson. Peak mounts but Jonson holds on tight until the end of the round.
Jonson opens the final round by bull-rushing Peak against the fence, but Peak reversed and takes him down to guard. Jonson sweeps to top side mount, but Peak established half guard and gets a sweep of his own. Both guys are pretty much gassed, and the ref stands them up due to inactivity. Jonson looks for a takedown and gets a big double leg as the round ends.
Winner: Ben Peak
Unanimous Decision (29-28 all)
Asa Buck vs. (couldn’t hear it) Nunes
Unfortunately, the speakers are towards the outside of the tent. Great for the audience, but those of use sitting ringside can’t hear shit (this will come into play later).
Nunes comes in with hard punches, and pressures Buck into the cage. Buck gets a takedown to mount, briefly flurrying before Nunes escapes to his feet. Buck gets another takedown, but Nunes reverses to top guard. Buck looks composed and defends pretty well from the bottom, but Nunes is able to get some big shots through, as well as a slam that got a great response from the audience. Nunes lands several hard hammerfists as the round ends.
Nunes’ gameplan is pretty clear as he swings for the fences again, dropping Buck. Buck gets right back up and clinches, but Nunes is able to take him down. Buck gives his back, and Nunes looks for the choke. As he’s about to lose the position, Nunes switches to an armbar, which Buck escapes from, ending up on top. Nunes rolls him and quickly mounts, landing a couple vicious right hands. Buck rolls him and stands, inviting Nunes to do the same. Nunes puts Buck against the fence to end the round.
Nunes opens the round with a haymaker and clinches; Buck knees to the body. Buck eats a big right hand and gets stuffed against the fence. Buck looks for a takedown; Nunes separates, and both guys throw leather and clinch against the fence. Nunes works a single as Buck defends and punches. Nunes comes back with a couple of big rights, and a couple more that miss big. Buck comes back with strong straight punches and solid knees – it looks like he could maybe finish it, but the round ends. The place fucking ERUPTS at the ends of this fight. It’s one of the first time that I can remember seeing a standing ovation at the end of a fight.
Winner: ?? Nunes
Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27)
Damien Malon vs. Frank Sanchez
Sanchez runs across the ring and Malon easily snatches up a double leg. Sanchez turtles and Malon takes his back. Malon looks for the choke, lands a few punches, and keeps looking for the choke, but Sanchez is doing a good job defending. Sanchez tripods, and escapes from Malon’s armlock attempt to get on top. Sanchez lands some hard punches as Malon attempts to stand up. Sanchez defends the takedown as the round ends.
Sanchez runs across the ring again, this time pressuring Malon against the fence as Malon knees to the body. Malon gets another takedown, but Sanchez scrambles and sprawls. Malon comes around to take the back, and Sanchez stands. Malon jumps to back mount, with Sanchez tripoding again. Malon sinks a deep armbar, but Sanchez escapes as round 2 ends.
Sanchez runs into two lefts to start the final round, and counters with a 1-2. Malon slips on a takedown attempt, uses it to attempt a leglock, but abandonds it, switching back to the takedown – this time getting it. Sanchez turtles, Malon works RNC, and Sanchez escapes to the top. Sanchez lands what looked to be a clean shot to the body, but the action is halted to let Malon recover from a low blow. They are restarted standing, and Malon quickly gets a takedown. Sanchez turtles again, and the round closes with Malon looking for the choke, and Sanchez attempting an ankle crush.
Winner: Damien Mallon
Unanimous Decision (30-27 all)
Adam Toussint vs. Marquise Brown
Toussint opens the fight with a superman punch to a clinch; Brown gets a big double leg. They scramble, with Brown taking the back, working for the choke. He lets go, punches, and re-applies the submission. Toussint is able to escape to top guard, passes, mounts, and UNLOADS. Brown is knocked out after a bit of a late stoppage.
Winner: Adam Toussint
KO
Round 1
Daniel Dubie vs. Jason Hubbard
The two have a brief exchange standing before Dubie shoots for a takedown. Hubbard sprawls and looks to work a guillotine, but abandons it. Hubbard secures a takedown, but Dubie stands. Hubbard lands a couple big right hands, then jumps guillotine for the tap.
Winner: Jason Hubbard
Submission – Guillotine
Round 1
Steve Skrzat vs. Emmanuel Rivera
Skrzat puts Rivera against the fence and gets a hard double to top of half guard. Skrzat lands some short lefts, and works a guillotine as Rivera works to his feet. Rivera gets his own takedown to the top of half guard, and escapes the choke/headlock. Rivera can’t really get the space to strike, and Skrzat heel kicks to the back (which I think is illegal, but whatever). Skrzat holds on tight to end the round.
The round starts a bit late as the doctor checks a cut over Rivera’s eye. He whiffs a head kick to open the round, and they clinch against the fence. Skrzat works another guillotine; Rivera gets a takedown and escapes the choke. Skrzat escapes to his feet and the two exchange a couple takedowns and scrambles, ending with Rivera on top, mounting and landing punches to end the round.
Skrzat comes out strong landing bombs, and Rivera gets a takedown, passing to mount. As he mounts the ref stops the fight to have the doctor check the cut again. Needless to say, supporters of Rivera are a bit miffed. Luckily they are restarted in the same position. Both guys are gassed, and Rivera lands whatever he has the energy for, flurrying as the round ends.
Winner: Emmanuel Rivera
Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
Anthony “Spaz” Parzialli vs. Pete Burns
Spaz comes out to a chorus of boos. For some reason, I always pictured him as a fat slob. He sort of is, but in a 170 lb frame. Burns jabs to start the fight, countering a weird jumping body kick from Spaz with a takedown. Spaz is able to get back to his feet, scoring a takedown of his own, but landing right in a guillotine.
Winner: Pete Burns
Submission – Guillotine
Round 1
At this point we have a very brief intermission – where 200 people (including me) try to use 4 port-a-potties.
Onto the pro fights…
Todd Foote vs. Joe Kavey
Kavey throws a leg kick and right hand; Foote gets a takedown to side mount. Kavey escapes to his feet and eats a right hand. Foote pressures him against the fence and gets another takedown. He punches a bit before securing a kimura for the tap.
Winner: Todd Foote
Submission – Kimura
Round 1
Evan Parker vs. Barrington Douse
A long feeling out phase to start the fight. Douse lands a couple nice knees to the body. Parker looks for a takedown and gets it. Douse defends really well from the bottom, eventually faking an armbar attempt and using it to get to his feet. Douse lands a head kick and some good knees. Parker gets another takedown; Douse stands the second he gets some space. Douse lands some nice knees and punches as the round ends – then lands some more, as the ref can’t hear the bell, and the round ends about 15 second later than it should have. The old school hammer/bell combo wasn’t working for shit – c’mon guys, you can get those compressed air horns for $10 at Walmart.
Douse opens the second round by dropping Park with a right hand, but Parker quickly gets back up. Douse missing with a spinning back fist, and Parker pressures him against the cage. Douse stuffs a takedown, and lands some solid knees and elbows. Douse lands five hard knees to the face, but Parker hangs tough. He eats more knees, but eventually gets a takedown to guard. Little to no action for over a minute. A “stand them up” chant erupts from the entire crowd, but they do not get their wish until the round ends.
Parker scores with a right hook; Douse lands some good straight rights and a mean body kick. Parker gets a takedown, but it’s another lay ‘n pray session. Douse gets back to his feet, and lands more big knees. Parker falls down as he eats some right hands. Douse is having some trouble dealing with Parker’s open guard, almost landing in a triangle. He eventually passes to half guard and lands some short rights. Douse backs away and let’s Parker stand. Douse lands a solid head kick before stuffing another Parker takedown to end the fight.
Winner: Barrington Douse
Unanimous Decision (30-27 all)
Ralph Johnson vs. Dan Ford
Johnson has a “slight” height advantage. Johnson immediately drops Ford with a right hand, and knees him in the face as he works back to his feet. Ford looks for a takedown, but all he gets are about 50 knees and punches as the ref steps in.
Winner: Ralph Johnson
TKO – Referee Stoppage from Strikes
Round 1
Frank Latina vs. Wayne Harnois
Latina lands a couple big rights as Harnois rushes in. Latina clinches against the cage as Harnois knees to the body and jumps guillotine. Latina slams him, passing to side mount. Harnois holds tight and uses it to roll to top of North/South position. He tries to mount and Latina rolls to top side mount. Latina mounts him and lands big punches. Harnois turtles, tripods, and Latina secures a super tight armbar. Harnois waits until his elbow takes on an unnatural angle before he taps.
Winner: Frank Latina
Submission – Armbar
Round 1
Robby Roberts vs. Mike Zichelle
Both fighters trade kicks. Zichelle lands hard punches and gets a takedown to side mount. Roberts works some crazy reverse triangle; Zichelle pops his head out and stuffs a takedown. He lands some vicious right hands, mounts, and unloads for the stoppage. I also have to mention that Zichelle is banging at least one half of a ridiculously hot set of twins.
Winner: Mike Zichelle
TKO – Referee Stoppage from Strikes
Round 1
Scott Argot vs. Dan Simmler
This fight was at 185 lbs; Simmler’s calves came in at 155. Simmler characteristically looks for the takedown to start the fight. Argot defends and attempts a guillotine/crank against the fence. Simmler gets a trip, but Argot gets right back up, still controlling the head. Simmler separates, teeps, and ducks behind Argot. Argot turns to face him, and Simmler gets a takedown and quickly mounts. He lands some rights and Argot turtles; they scramble and Simmler defends a takedown. Simmler puts Argot against the cage, landing a questionable knee. The action doesn’t stop though, and Simmler eventually gets a takedown to knee-on-belly, landing big shots. Argot tries to reverse, but Simmler keeps punching for the stoppage.
Winner: Dan Simmler
TKO – Referee Stoppage from Strikes
4:50 Round 1
Jason Bennett vs. Glenn Allaire
Bennet starts the fight with a leg kick/head kick combo. Allair looks for the takedown, but gets dropped for his effort. Bennett lands a ton of punches in a very short time, and Allaire is scary KOed, with his arms and legs stiff in the air. Doctor/EMTs rush in, but after a nerve racking 5-6 minutes, Allaire is on his feet and OK.
Winner: Jason Bennett
KO
Round 1
Brian McLaughlin vs. Luis Felix
A long feeling out stage. McLaughlin scores with kicks, while Felix looks to be timing a counter. McLaughlin ducks under a bomb and takes Felix down. McLaughlin spends some time work in kesa/side mount, while Felix is trying to establish a half guard. McLaughlin lands some right hands. Felix turtles and scrambles, but is still on his back, this time in full guard. McLaughlin looks to pass but Felix is able to scramble to his feet. Felix runs in with big rights and a friggin’ drop kick as the round ends, but once again the ref can’t hear the bell.
McLaughlin opens round two with some more kicks as they stalk each other around the cage. Felix counters a kick with couple really hard straight rights. McLaughlin catches a kick, but Felix defends the takedown by blatantly holding the fence and pounding. McLaughlin gets his revenge by locking up a triangle, and putting Felix to sleep.
Winner: Brian McLaughlin
KO – Triangle Choke
Round 2
Chris Foster vs. David Sachs
They feel each other out to start the fight, with Sachs looking to take this to the ground. Foster sprawls on an attempt, and is warned by the ref for grabbing the fence. Sachs is relentlessly looking for the takedown, but Foster’s hips just seem too good. Foster gets some space and unload, dropping Sachs, and finishing him up on the ground for the TKO.
Winner: Chris Foster
TKO – Referee Stoppage from Strikes
Round 1
All in all, I really liked the show. The parking sucked, they need a louder bell/airhorn, but the fights were well-matched and entertaining. They used a traditional canvas to avoid the CFX slip ‘n slide, and there is something really satisfying about being able to visit your favorite ring card girl at her place of business after the fights, and see her cervix. This definitely won’t be the last Wartown Beatdown I attend.

“…there is something really satisfying about being able to visit your favorite ring card girl at her place of business after the fights, and see her cervix.” lmao
The show was incredible. Great fights. The Buck vs. Nunes fight has to be fight of the year.
Also, great fight between Barrington Douse and Evan Parker. Good win for Barrington. Evan is a tough fighter.
Thanks for having us Matt.
Jason
hahaha guys….Asa Buck vs. Liem Nguyen……yes that fight is a very possible candidate for fight of the year! big ups to emanuael Cruz, Ruben Rey, Liem, and Luis Felix! Great show and looking forward to the next one!

Chris Foster is Nasty, Glad i got to see that in person. Dave Sachs is tough and Chris made it look easy.
3rd Amateur fight was so sick. Sorry I got my ass kicked again. AT LEAST I am beginning to lose weight and improve though.
OH YEAH any pics?
joe — if you feel good about what you’re doing, what do W’s and L’s matter. not everyone is getting in the cage to one day beat anderson silva. congrats on improving and being positive about it.
Thank man. I felt good about what I was doing maybe a year ago. Now that I have my life on track for once my girlfriend and I plan on moving away so I can begin training with a school. I want to train with Matt Lee.
I think I could be one of the best. Ive shown how much of a natural I am now I need some one to teach me how to fight so I can accomplish my dream. My dream is to be one of the people I see I TV. I want all they have and more.
Joe Kavey,
Keep training hard. Find a solid local school to train with and you will be fine. You love the sport and it shows. Its always a pleasure talking to you at the shows. You are definitely one of the “good guys” on the scene. Looking forward to seeing you on Sept. 11th at NAFL.
Jason
C’mon Kavey….get your first win at the NAFL on Sept. 11!!!!
Joe, do you train at a school??
Great fights agan!!! A lot of good talent! How about that fifth amatuer fight? What a KO!!! Not only was there a great escape, but Toussaint really had some power in those hands! Those amatuer fights were all just as good as the pros! Lets start giving those amatuers a little more credit! The buck fight too was quite nasty.
I don’t train at a school. I did like 6 months of BJJ back when I was like 15 and I am going to be 23 on August 30th. Thanks for the support guys and I plan on winning on the 11th. I feel good about it. I feel violant.
What the hell happened to this site? Back in the day, there would have been 150 responses to this, 2-3 people wanting to fight me, etc. What a boring bunch of bitches you’ve all become
you’re an ugly bag of foreskins Biggie. you’re useless and a cunt. your review sucked and if I had a real name I’d fight you.
you’re a dirty piece of shit, cum guzzling Loadmouth.
Your review sucks and you’ll never see another set of titties but your own.
You’re a Fat Dike!
Someone post the picture of Biggie getting choked………
congrats rockstar fighters as well as adam…sick KO.
Great review, Biggie…I miss the shit out of you.
Biggie, I justt read the review at the suggestion of Mr. Nasty. I laughed hysterically. This has got to be the most entertaining fight review I have ever read. The last paragraph was worth the entire read. Classic.
1st of all i was never out at any point, 2nd i didnt tap, 3rd the ref stoped the fight 5 sec into the triangle after my opponent yelled “hes out” ! never did the ref even ask if i was okay, and its on tape i dont lie! but its cool i have no doubt in my mind that i will see this kid later on in my career. Brian Mcglaughlin congrats!
and the liem vs asa buck fight was def the best fight ive seen around here. these dudes were just rocking eachother and had the crowed going bananas! PROPS to both those guys and all the Team ROckstar fighters!
