It was a very busy four months for some weight classes, and very…very slow for other weight classes. There was a ton of changes to 145, 155 and 170, but 185 and 205 were nearly dormant. Only a couple ranked fighters fought at 185 and 205, thus only slight movement. I’m sure there will be questions, so feel free to ask in the comment section and we’ll do our best to answer them.

Weatherby still fights 170? Congrats to Dennis for breaking into the top 5!! Keep up the hard work bro, you are on a tear right now. There should be atleast 1 heavyweight ranking and it should be Cody “the manchild” Lightfoot. Atleast thats my opinion……..
To answer a few questions I’m guessing we’ll see in the next day or two, I’m sure someone will ask how Nate LaMotte could jump from 10 to 3. The reason Nate slid down to 10 last time was because he hadn’t won at 170 in a little while. When he won a couple at 170, he jumped right back up.
A similar situation that I can point to is Henrique Bicalho. He was #2 for a while (and I think may have been #1 at one point) but he hasn’t fought since February of 2008, and there hasn’t even been rumored fights that fell through…and with the weight class being so busy, a big layoff caused him to drop completely off. However, if he fights next month and wins, he’ll likely take a spot high on the rankings, because we’ll assume he’s actively fighting again, and we do take into account the total body of work, and Bicalho’s past history is as impressive as anyone’s.
That’s what happened with Nate. He dropped because of a couple losses and more accurately, lack of wins at 170. We tend to reward the wins more than we punish the losses because anyone can simply take time off and not lose. If you stay active and lose while another fighter takes time off, I have a hard time moving a guy up because he’s taking time off.
That is also the reason Escobar dropped a bit, lack of activity, and lack of wins.
That leads me to my next question I’m sure to hear…many of the guys at 185 and 205 haven’t been active in a while, yet they stay on while guys like Bicalho drop off. The reason for that is because 145 is much more active than 185 and 205. Had nobody at 145 fought, nobody would have moved. With 185 and 205 lacking action, we made slight adjustments.
And my final question to answer is how did Dan Keefe get ranked when he was unranked last time and hasn’t fought? We’ll take a mulligan on that one. Keefe should have been ranked at 185 in January, but we simply forgot.
About Woody…we answered that question last time, and since we had him at 170 in January, and he hasn’t fought since January, we decided not to move him. This will likely be his last time at 170.
Leone vs Stone would be interesting at 145.
Olson vs weatherby rematch also another good one.
Kerr vs Lauzon?
Nice job Rick.
Not an easy thing to do.
Where is Luis Palomino again?
Great job on the rankings!! I just wish alot of those guys would fight more often!! The Link guys haven’t been too busy lately? I also hope to see Justin Torrey in action as well.
Palomino is signed with Bellator for multiple fights and he’s no longer available locally.
Though LaBerge fought and won in Bellator, I believe he had a 1 fight deal and he’s still available to fight locally.
Rick is correct about LaBerge
What about Weafer? Did he sign with someone, or just not top 10?
Nevermind.
Weafer is slightly behind Tom Moreau…very slightly. When guys have similar records, we look at level of competition. Tom beat Eric Henry, Colby Brown and Jay Fortier….all of which are super tough. His lone loss was also not at 170. Weafer has recent wins over Lerchen and Randy Rowe, and his loss was at 170 to a tough fighter. It was a very tough decision, but ultimately we felt Tom’s wins were bigger and his loss was to a ranked 185er.
Josh Diekmann? Randy Smith? Lee Beane? Cody Lightfoot? Josh Watson? Christian Morecraft? Large Angry Freakshow? Me? Hello?
I understand the problem when your majority of Heavy fighters are not fighting as others do. However props need to be given to the Men who are putting themselves out there. Randy who has been fighting as much as he can. Lee Beane and Cody Lightfoot who both are young but also have been fighting champs, Eric Foley who has been active more than most . As far as Watson, Morecraft, and DIEKMAN I have not heard Hide nor Hare from them?? That does not make them not worthy but give the guys who do there all the Kudos they deserve! Thank You???
Amieda has had 4 fights 3 of them at 170, how does he make top 10 for 155?? Foster has had 3 fights against no one with a winning record.??
Whats up with the 155lb class?
As far as I know, all of Almeida’s fights were at 155. I know he won at WCF at 155, and his fight with Cesario was also at 155. I believe the Concepcion fight was at 155 also. If it wasn’t, it should have been as they both fight at 155 now.
As far as Foster goes, he looked great against Cory LaPlante, and Cory is tough. Do you have a better suggestion?
Almieda’s a champ, and undefeted, and Foster is a bad-ass who is also undefeted, I think he’s trouble for any local 155er.. Fight em if you want to be ranked over them!
Reep I like the way you think, Ive been trying to get a fight set with almieda since last january, Was supposed to go down at wcf 6, and he couldnt fight, But Almieda and Foster are 2 guys I would def like to fight in 09 so lets get that set up. Rodrigo and Jarrod Johnson was at was 170, I thought conception was also, and in the begining of the Ceasario – Almieda fight vid wich has been removed now, the anouncer says 170. but what do I know, I just hope Are Fight that was supposed to go down but didnt, does at some point cause are styles would clash and I think it would be a great fight.
Nick, I think you too are an awesome fighter, only saw you once, but you made quick work. Why didn’ they give you the fight with Almeida for this upcoming WCF?? Hope you get your fights this year, best of luck!
Reep you gotta check me out on youtube, just search Nick Evangelous.
I dont take my vids down, like alot of local fighters who worry about being studied. Im not sure why that fight didnt happen, but its probably becaus Kattar is ranked 3 and beating him would be huge for almieda, and he probably see’s the possibilty of being able to take Calvin down to stop his stand up, like ceasario and jose lopez. I wanted to fight almieda to see if he could take me down the way he did in those fights because I am very confident in my td defense and clinching/judo abilitys. Im gonna keep climbing the ladder and hopefully so Will Almieda and at some point our fight could be huge if we both keep winning. I want to finish my next fight quick so i can get a good seat to watch the Kattar-Almieda fight cause I think It has the possibilty of being an all out war.
can we please update these dam rankings….i wanna see who i wanna take out!!!! and by the looks of it me and Chris foster are set up for WCF in september!!! LETS GO!!!
