Untamed 30 Preview

Untamed 30 takes place this Friday, February 19 from White’s in Westport, MA. As always, the card has some solid fights and a couple veterans from a few years back are making their return to action.

The card is headlined by a fight between Jay Fortier and Damien Vitale. Fortier has recently gone on a tear winning his last 4 fights, 3 of them by arm bar submission. His fights are always exciting, and his arm bar on Jeff Soucie was one of the slickest we’ve seen in a long time. Damien hasn’t fought since August of 2008, but he does have submission wins over Mike Gresh and Jose Valentin. Damien has fought mostly at 155, but he shouldn’t be too small at 170. This should be a great fight between two good submission guys.

Josh Greeley is set to make his return to action against Austin Brown. Greeley hasn’t fought since 2005, but was always one of the more exciting fighters to watch. He does have 4 losses, but they were to Dan Ferrer, Paul Gorman, Ricky Breault and Joe Cushman, and 3 out of the 4 were brawls. Taking Gorman and Cushman to decisions is no easy task, and I’m excited to see him back in action.

Dave Gilrein is also set to fight for the first time since 2005. He’s 3-2 as a pro with his first loss coming to Joe Lauzon. Dave is a good wrestler with pretty good submissions, and he’s set to take on Todd Solek. This could be a tough fight for Dave, as he’s a 155er, and he struggled against Jason Giroux, who was able to out wrestle Dave. Solek should be stronger than Dave, and I imagine he will be able to out wrestle him as well. Dave will have to use his BJJ to get the win here.

JC Jasa was a wildman. He was put in one of the nastiest slams i have ever seen. straight up WWE style. He looks like a caveman/ Jesus, so much so that i heard chants of “what would jesus do” and “so easy a caveman could do it”, I have to admit that when he got sidemount i was yelling for the crucifix (i know…poor taste). Is was a good night.

Great night of fights!! Congrats to all who fought!! I’m looking for an un-biased opinion on the main event between Jay and Damian. To me the fight was stopped early. No disrespect to Kevin (who is one of, if not the best refs. locally) or Damien. It was clear to me ringside that Jay was defending himself while the punches from Damien were being thrown. Jay’s arm never dropped, his head never hit the mat, he had knee to belly, he did not turtle. Hopefully someone more qualified to give an opinion on this topic than me would be appreciated. If you are intelligently defending yourself the fight should not be stopped is how I see it and to me I can’t see how anyone could say Jay was not doing that.
