AFO Thanksgiving Eve Benefit Show Feeding 100 Families
November 25 will mark the one-year anniversary of the American Fighting Organization’s first MMA show, the eighth in the year’s time. The organization has consistently staged entertaining, competitive shows, showcasing many local fighters, offering many first-time competitors a chance to step into the octagon. Some have excelled, some have not, but nearly all have been involved in crowd-pleasing battles, which have enabled AFO to build a nice local following at the cozy and classy Braintree Sheraton.
There are over 17 Pro and Amateur fights book this evening that promises to be a great night in local MMA with a great cause behind it.
Headlining the show will be one of AFO’s poster-kids, Franklin Isabel of Doomsday MMA in Chelsea, MA. Franklin has fought several times for AFO, and will be featured in his first main event, now facing Gloucester’s Pedro Gonzalez.
Originally scheduled to face undefeated Brian Marino, the plan changed in October when Marino, taking what was expected to be a tune-up against Maine’s DJ Grimes on AFO’s Grantham, NH card, ended up in an absolute war which left Marino with a broken hand and foot, in spite of victory over the tough-as-roofing nails Grimes.
With BJ unavailable, Gonzales, a deceiving 2-2, stepped up to the plate, enabling Franklin to remain in the top spot on the show.
The night’s co-feature will showcase AFO title-holder Paddy Thompson of Pembroke, MA in a non-title fight, testing the waters at 160. Thompson, who won the AFO 170 pound belt with a stoppage over Maurice McNeil in August would like to attempt to make 155, and will try out his new physique against veteran warrior Roberto Conception of Woburn.
South Shore Sport Fighting’s Ryan White will try to settle things once and for all with Dragon Lair’s Nelson Gaipo. The two have met twice already, each winning once, in what are considered two of the best MMA fights in recent years.
Sityodtong will feature two talented young fighters, Jimmy Davidson and Lewis Corapi.
Davidson will face Waikru’s Ibriham Tody in what may very well be fight of the night.
In addition to Ryan White and Paddy Thompson, South Shore Sportfighting of neighboring Rockland will be featuring Mike Polvere, Mike Malvesti, and Mike Marchione.
Doomsday MMA will also feature exciting 135 pounder Anthony “Squirrel” Carmenatti facing Connors MMA’s Mike Campanella. Doomsday fighters Jim Armago will make his MMA debut against Dennis DeBaggis of LA Boxing, and Joe will face off against Aaron Sivera of New Jersey.
Also featured will be fighters from many local gyms including Mike Schneider MMA, Inner Circle, as well as several independent fighters.
The evening’s event will benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank and help feed over 400 people on Thanksgiving Day. Anyone interested in making a donation or sponsorship, please contact Pete DiLorenzo at 401 300 6321.
For ticket info go to www.afomma.com – Tickets will also be available the night of the show. Doors open at 6 30 and fights will start at 7 45.
