NECF Wartown Beatdown 4 Review

NECF Wartown Beatdown 4 Review

Traffic was lighter than normal, and the bartender allowed me to buy two beers at a time at the Palladium, so the night is off to a strong start. They have 14 fights on the show tonight, and its 7:45 as they are kicking things off.

Amateur fights are up first.

Dan Bartellini (Rivera MMA) vs. Ben Peak (Simmler BJJ)

Bartellini looks to have a solid 15-20 pound weight advantage. Ben doesn’t look scared, though and scores a quick takedown to side control. They scramble back up, but right back down. They are back up again and Ben is working a standing guillotine but is slammed hard. Dan is on top in half guard as the round expires.

R2-Ben takes him down and they scramble. Ben takes the back after some work and locks a body triangle. He moves to mount and lands a few hard shots. Dan works out but is nearly caught in an arm bar. He again works out and takes top position. Ben locks up a triangle as time expires but it wasn’t that tight.

R3-Ben kicks Dan in the balls to open the 3rd round, and Dan looks hurt. After a break, Ben gets a takedown against the fence. Dan works back to his feet and slams Ben hard. He takes half guard and lands a couple short shots. Dan mounts with 10 seconds left but Ben ties him up and avoids damage.

Ben takes the unanimous decision.

Stephan DaSilva (Rockstar) vs. Michael Tebo (Bombsquad)

Both guys exchange a little and Tebo is trying to get the fight to the mat. DaSilva lands some good shots standing but Tebo fires back. Tebo is taken down and gets mounted. Tebo eats some shots but is working out. He escapes and lands some shots of his own as time expires.

R2-DaSilva lands a wicked superman punch and nearly drops him. Tebo shoots but gets stuck in a guillotine and taps.

Shawn Whitney vs. Asa Buck (MMAT)

I can’t play by play this…They are both standing in front of each other and winging punches. They each probably threw 150 punches, and both landed a ton. Asa was the more technical, and landed the harder shots, especially towards the end of the round, but they basically beat the hell out of each other the whole round.

R2-I have no idea how Shawn is in his feet. He eats more punches in this round than I’ve ever seen, and he’s still coming and never goes down. I really don’t get it. This whole round was the two of them landing bombs with Asa getting the better of it. I’m shocked Shawn is walking.

R3-Asa locks up a standing guillotine early in round 3 for the win…great fight.

Adam Toussant (Havoc) vs. Brian Rossi (Rivera MMA)

Adam is firing head kicks left and right and is throwing a ton of punches also. Rossi is firing back and catches Adam a few times. It looks like Adam is the better athlete but Rossi is more technical. Adam lands some clean shots at the end of the round, but Rossi picks him up and slams him as the round ends.

R2-After some back and forth action, Rossi attempts a throw but misses badly and ends up mounted. Adam lands some hard shots and is going from mount to back to mount. Adam takes half guard and is landing bombs, but 1 or 2 at a time. Rossi escapes and takes side control. Rossi took a beating but Adam looks tired and Rossi looks good as the round ends.

R3-They clinch for most of the round and Adam hits a nice throw and takes top position. Rossi counters and is on top looking to pass. Adam is working a kimura from the bottom and uses it to sweep. They get back to their feet. Brian lands a throw of his own and punches from the top as the fight comes to a close.

Adam Toussant takes the decision.

Chris Strom (Rivera MMA) vs. Steve Skrzat

Steve lands a few BOMBS  and drops Chris, follows him to the mat and gets the quick TKO.

Eric Fama (Rockstar) vs. Brian Marlow (Extreme)

Brian has KO shaved into his head.  Fama takes him down and is pounding him a ton. Fama is on top in mount and pounding away. The ref gave Brian a chance but he had to stop it.

Pro Fights:

Andy Lampson (MMAT) vs. Marlin Horton

I got up to get a beer and missed this fight. Marlin looked good in round 1 but got mounted and pounded out in the second round.

Luis Felix (Rockstar) vs. Tony Woodman (Havoc)

They work from the clinch a bit to open the fight and Luis is able to push him to the mat and take mount. He transitions to the back and lands a ton of unanswered shots for the TKO win.

Mike Zichelle (MMAT) vs. Scott Argot (Thaishodo)

Scott lands a clean shot and follows with a slam. Zichelle gets back up but Scott again works for the takedown and gets it. He takes mount but Zichelle rolls him and mounts him shortly after.  Zichelle pounds away for the TKO win, then jumps the cage and leaves for a while, but comes back to get his hand raised.

Davin Wesinger (Shodokan Karate) vs. Aniss Alhajjajy (BTT)

Aniss is cornered by former UFC Champion Murila Bustamante…which is friggin awesome. Davin is all over him in the opening seconds but Aniss is able to get him down. He mounts him against the fence, Davin escapes. Aniss comes very close to finishing an armbar, Davin again escapes.  Aniss scrambles, takes his back and quickly locks in the RNC for the win. Great fight and great win for Aniss.

Ralph Johnson (MMAT) vs. Wayne Harnois (American Fight Team)

Ralph knocks Wayne out, and the fight looks over but as the ref comes in to stop it, Wayne grabs a leg and keeps fighting. He eats a ton more shots, and the ref stops it before Wayne gets too beat up. Great win for Ralph.

Travis Lerchen (Rhino) vs. Marcos Maciel (BTT)

Maciel takes him down quickly and almost immediately drops back for the fight ending heel hook.

155 pound title fight

Joe Manzello vs. Saul Almeida (Dragon Lair)

Saul lands a perfect flying knee and has him hurt. Joe fights through it and is able to pick him up and slam him hard. They get back up and Saul is landing knees from the clinch.  Joe takes him down and is able to tske the back off a scramble.  The round ends with Joe on his back.

R2-Manzello closes the distance and clinches him to the fence. Joe takes him down to side control and Saul seems to be struggling with the strength of Manzello. Saul escapes and takes Manzello’s back. Saul can’t finish the choke and the round expires.

R3-Manzello looks relaxed in between rounds. He takes Saul down to guard to open the second. Joe passes to half guard. Not much action from either guy this round…very slow pace. Joe holds top position and lands shots here and there, and works hard to pass, but most of the round was a stalemate.

Saul Almeida takes the split decision win.

145 pound title fight

Chris Foster (Lion’s Den) vs. Kenny Foster (Bombsquad)

Kenny lands a stiff left that drops Chris, but he jumps right back up only to be taken right back down. Kenny takes mount but Chris escapes back to his feet. They are trading on their feet with both guys landing. Kenny is working hard for the takedown but can’t seem to get it. Kenny lands a HUGE left that again drops Chris and he jumps on his back for the RNC win.
