Mike Littlefield previews Untamed 29 for the readers of NortheastMMA.
August 29th (Saturday) @ Best Western Royal Plaza Trade Center – 181 Boston Post Road West, Marlborough, Ma. 01752
Amateur 3 x 3 min rounds
Tony Reis(AMMA) 1-1 vs Edwin Pabone-Cedre (Tigon) 0-0 175lb
Matt Casio (Dungeon) 0-0 vs Lewis Corapi (Sityodtong) 0-0 155lb
Chris Lewis (Tigon) 1-0 vs Adam Aprecio (Boneyard) 0-0 150lb
Boyce Kamen (Blue Devil) 0-0 vs Danny Dubie (IND) 0-0 170lb
Jill Valensuela (AMMA) 0-0 vs Tisha Rodrigues (Boneyard) 1-0 117lb
Paul Case (Pro Elite) 0-0 vs Bill Martin (Tigon) 1-0 185lb
Joe Proctor (Aggression) 5-0 vs John Morrissey (Boneyard) 2-0 160lb
This amateur matchup should really set the tone for things to come, not only later this evening but later in the professional careers of both of these young fighters. John Morrissey began his training as a teenager and before his teen years were past he had an undefeated amateur record. His fighting took a sideline while he went to school but his training continued. John is a very well rounded fighter who is not afraid to stand and trade which is what we saw in his first fight with a very tough and game Scott Nichols. We then saw John’s ability on the ground when faced with a tough wrestler in his second fight.
Joe Proctor is one of the most impressive amateurs on the local circuit. His unique style has been eating up the competition. Much like Morrissey, Joe is not afraid to stand and trade blows. In fact, he prefers it. When matched up against ground fighters Joe uses his jiu jitsu training to get the fight back to the feet where he can inflict more damage by way of the fist. It will be very interesting to see who can impose their will in this fight. Both fighters are very similar in every aspect. They are young, well trained and both on the verge of breaking into the professional genesis of their careers. One of them and only one of them, will leave tonight with their perfect record intact.
Bobby Sellers (Hyastan) 2-0 vs Noel Fairhurst (Tigon) 1-0 170lb
Noel Fairhurst along with the rest of his teammates had a very impressive showing at Untamed 27. Noel won his fight in dominating fashion and appeared to be one of the more talented amateurs on display that evening.
Bobby Sellers has fought twice for Untamed and both times this young fighter has displayed tremendous talent. His cage-composure along with his naturally gifted athletic abilities and sound training has made him a memorable addition to the Full Force stable. This young man hales from North Carolina which is a rare occurrence to see a non-local fighter gracing the card but talent speaks for itself and there’s no doubt that matchmaker Mike Littlefield knows a gem when he sees one. Bobby Sellers is a name to remember folks. You heard it first at Full Force.
Professional 3 x 5 min rounds
Zane Baker (AMMA) 2-1 vs Luiz Rodriguez (Sityodtong) 0-0 155lb
What a great fight to kick of the pro card. Zane Baker is a Jay Jack trained fighter. His only loss was to local superstar Joe Lauzon in a lightweight 8-man tournament. Baker won via choke earlier that evening over #1 light weight contender Pete Jeffrey. Zane has been relatively inactive as far as MMA competition goes but he’s back and we’re expecting to see him at his best.
Luiz is a relatively unknown fighter in the sense that he’s never fought but you recognize the team name. This fighter is a Mark Dellagrotte trained Muay Thai fighter as well as a BJJ purple belt. There is no doubt that this will be a high level matchup with two very talented fighters.
Kurt Calash (IMB) 2-4 vs Nik Patnaude (Burgess) 2-2 135lb
Get ready for action! Kurt Calash is a spark plug of a fighter. He has skilled hands and a very dangerous ground game. He’s fought very tough competition in his career and has come up short a few times but the numbers on his record do not do justice to the fighter that he is. This man can fight.
Patnaude is no slouch himself. Arguably one of the strongest flyweights to ever grace the scene, “chocolate” has been vastly improving. His training with team Burgess has put this fighter on the fast track to being one of the top mentionables in the flyweight division. This will be a lightning fast battle.
Aniss Alahaji (BTT Boston) 2-1 vs Nick Evangelous (Fenix) 4-0 155lb
Rene Nazare (Dungeon) 4-0 vs Muzaffar Abdurakhman (Sityodtong) 2-0 155lb
Finally, a test for both of these men. Not to disrespect any of their former opponents but both of these fighters are clearly on another level. Count yourselves lucky to witness these two fighting in front of you, much less against each other, because they both belong on PPV. Nazare is a world champion BJJ black belt and Muzzafar “Moose” Abdurakhman is a world class wrestler. Both have found success in the MMA arena as well as finding trainers who have the knowledge and ability to get them to the next level. This will be a treat for the fans here tonight.
Professional Welterweight Title 5 x 5 min rounds
John Manley (Link) 5-0 vs Ryan Shieding (Burgess) 6-1 170lb
Manley suffered a broken ear drum. This fight will be rescheduled.
Professional Light heavyweight Title 5 x 5 min rounds
Josh Watson (AMMA) 4-0 vs Travis Bartlet (Irish) 7-1 205lb
THIS IS AN AWESOME FIGHT. The thought of Watson fighting at 205 is honestly a little terrifying. He’s been so dominant at heavyweight that I can imagine him making the jump to the big show with a couple of high profile wins at light-heavy. There is no doubt that a win over Bartlet would go a long way toward realizing that goal. Even though Watson is dropping down in weight, he is taking a big step up in competition. Travis is a heavy handed knock-out artist who is bringing a lot more experience to the ring. He is an accomplished professional boxer, having close to a hundred fights and over forty Kos. His 7-1 MMA record is no joke either. If you were to compare the two fighter’s records it would be hard not to recognize that Bartlet has had the tougher opponents. Travis has looked completely un-touchable against guys who were willing to stand with him, and Josh has yet to find an opponent he couldn’t slam.
Professional lightweight Title 5 x 5 min rounds
Pete Jeffrey (Triforce/Santos) 3-2 vs Will Kerr (Strikezone) 7-2 155lb
Unless you are familiar with Pete Jeffrey, one might look at this fight on paper and see Kerr as the clear favorite. However, Pete Jeffrey is a force in the lightweight division. He quickly submitted top contender, Chris Chappell with one of the quickest, tightest “10 finger” guillotine chokes ever seen. Chappell was literally climbing the cage wall looking for the escape. Matt Santos-trained Jeffrey is a dangerous submission specialist with a solid Muay Thai game. He is a super strong 155’r and will not easily be out-muscled or out-skilled.
Will Kerr needs no introduction to even the casual Full Force fan. He is the most dominant title holder in the organization and his record in the Untamed arena is flawless. Kerr has been dismantling his opponents by way of knock out or submission since his very first fight which was when “Full Force” was known as “ECFA”. He has hands like a surgeon except his precision skills are better served to take people apart. Kerr’s grappling skills are masterful. He is constantly on the attack and can submit his foes from any given position. We saw a mere glimpse of Kerr’s mortality when Marc Stevens took him deep into a 5 round war where his stamina, his heart and his chin were ruthlessly tested, but again, Kerr dug in and came out the victor.
Since that time, Marc Stevens handily defeated another top contender in Hitalo Machado by way of TKO which has earned him the next shot at the Untamed light weight title. With the deepening pool of talent in the 155lb ocean, Stevens is the ever present circling shark just waiting to sink his jaws into the winner of this fight. A Kerr/Stevens rematch would be a crowd favorite and you can be sure Stevens is praying for it but Pete Jeffrey will undoubtedly turn a lot of heads in this fight and may surprise even the most educated fight fan.

I’m very excited about this card. Some of these matchups are a dream come true. Calash broke his foot but hopefully this fight can be rescheduled because it would be fantastic. Nick Evangelous also was injured but I was able to get a replacement in Merv Rodriguez from team Rhino. I think styleistically Merv and Aniss will be a great fight.
Thanks to Ryan Parker for his input in the preview.
Our next show will be Oct. 3 @ the Holiday Inn in Boxborough. Grandmaison and Carron will be our headline event.

sorry Brian. I’m sure that comment was not directed at you. That was written for our magazine publication a while ago to be distributed at the fights and pump up some of our matches. I sent it to Rick cause I knew he was busy with his wedding and didn’t have lots of time to write a creative review.
Nothing in print can discredit your ability in the cage. you are also a fighter that is considered as top level. If the article was highlighting your accomplishments I’m sure you would have been flattered.
I heard from the guys at Dungeon that you were a real test for Rene. I apologize for not recognizing that in our article.
